  • I have been searching high and low for the best pedal to put a little "hair" on my tone without too much crunch or overdrive. This is the ticket. It sounds like you just turned up the preamp of your amp - it doesn't affect existing tone. Side by side with the $400 KOT it was better, much better. The overdrive is VERY dynamic; you get quiet if you pick soft, you get grit if you attach hard.

    Buy it!

  • Which leads are you using in this video?

  • sounds like he's playing Dark Night by the Blasters at 1.46

  • how does this compare to the OCD? I'm playing indie-punk-rock and I want a sweet overdrive sound that doesn't sound to harsh but still can be driven to the edge for some nice bottom ends

  • again, those zep licks! great.......good way to demo a pedal mate.....and Doors licks!!!! right on....oh, now aerosmith.....you r killing me......select cool tracks

  • Wanton Song... mhmm so classy.

  • It's killing me i cannot remember the into song's name...or is it just a look-a-like Andy's improvisation?

  • @eduf93 Panama- EDWARD VAN HALEN! ;)

  • with the Pro Guitar Shop Andy, you could really review an overdrive pedal for that glassy eyed late night youtube binge

  • holy crap andy..damn..eargasm..

  • Creedence Clearwater Revival!

  • iM A BACKDOOR MAAAAN

  • heyhey! ZZ top sound here :D

  • "Lick and a Promise"?

    Good choice, Andy.

  • Hey Andy, Hurry up packing my order, I bought this hot little guy last night!!! Can't wait for it!!!!!!!! =)

  • this or a vahlbruch saphire drive?

  • So, how'd you guys manage to keep all the bees away?

  • this overdrive seems to be the best of the mad professor OD/distortion boxes.. i like it alot

  • 4:00 I'm the back door man!

  • SUZIE Q!

  • I wish they would release a PCB version so I can afford it. :'(

  • @MrBrownSound78 Well you'll be happy to know they did release a PCB version of the Sweet Honey and we have it! Same sounds just about half the price.

    -PGS

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos Sounds, should I say...SWEET? lolol jk jk.

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos soo what the differencies between PCB and this one?:)

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos The PCB version is made in Finland or China?

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos So why pay the full price?

  • it really makes me nervous that the LED is off the whole time <_<

  • @hotlion81 It's on, it's just not blindingly bright like an MXR pedal.

  • Do you sell Mad Prof. amps? Or at least have them available? I'd love to hear a demo of one of them.

    -Louis

  • @louisalive - Funny you should mention that...stay tuned.

    -PGS

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos you have no idea how excited i am to see andy or scotty play out of a MP101 or any other MP amp! (Preferably the MP101)

  • Very Nice pedal - expensive though - just about pefect for blues - I love the idea of diggin in and the drive increasing as you do so.

  • i got this pedal, and it's probably the best overdrive i've ever played. It's not a high gain drive but it sounds sweet like honey.

  • any chance of a/b handwired vs cb version?thx

  • are you always playing with a cranked amp?

  • @TOPPSSELLER - It's not cranked. We like to start with a clean-ish tone so you can hear the pedal do it's thing. We keep the deluxe well above bedroom level, however. More like "average club gig" level. Thanks!

    -PGS

  • @ProGuitarShopDemos sorry for my deviation from the pedal and my ignorance but unfortunately i haven't played yet with a vintage tube amp like fender twin or deluxe reverb, so can't you get a nice distortion/overdrive with amp's volume or gain knobs without a pedal ?

  • @bulenterdem1977 - On a vintage-style tube amp, like a Deluxe or a Twin, there is no gain knob (aka a "non-master volume" amp). This means you have to crank it to saturate the tubes and get overdrive...which also means it's going to be extremely loud. And a Twin, for instance, is designed to stay fairly clean at high volumes. A good OD or distortion functions as pre-amp gain, and allows you to have any level of gain you wish at a much more comfortable volume.

  • little question if youd hook this up to a tele and a blackstar HT5 mini stack would it be better to use this one over the clean or over the distorted channel???

  • @360DegreesMusic - just try it out, it all depends on what you like, personally i would try the clean channel first

  • 3:33 backdoorman for the doors............superrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrb

  • wanton song!

  • SOOOOO Sweet sounding.

  • Hey, he plays Tony Joe White, very good!

  • If your looking for the Van Halen brown sound check out the :Pinnacle 2"

  • Panama!

  • whats different from this amazing OD pedal

    from a preamp?

lets say the bb pre amp.

    How different do they work?

what different sounds do you get from both.

I just want to crank up my bluesy solos

    and play some sweet rythyms

  • @victortolast12345 a preamp boosts your signal and gives it some light distortion, and an overdrive pedal gives you light distortion and usually boosts your signal.

    pretty much the same.

they change the wave shape and add harmonics

  • @victortolast12345

A preamp usually boost the signal and offers some EQ, but shouldn't colour the sound in any other way, you would youse it to boost your amp into overdrive or change the basic sound from your guitar. An OD pedal on the other hand usually has more character of its own, adding a different flavour to your sound. They do overlap a bit though.

  • so versatile

for those of you who want an od that's just as good but for way less, check out the CMATMODS signa drive. blows the OCD out of the water for less $ too

  • Suzie Q! Nice job Andy, a true guitar man!

  • Saw this, bought the Pedal about a month ago. Every day I'm amazed. Brings out the best in other pedals big time!. Best OD I have ever tried. Best top 5 EVER

  • This is nothing against a Boss sd1...wait...i mean the other way around lol

  • this pedal is effing amazing,

but i dont have a spare $300 to get one :(

  • THE doors on 3,39, very nice

  • It doesn't even matter with the price of this overdrive. I'm gonna buy it at some point! By far, the sweetest sounding overdrive I've heard!

  • greattttttttttttttttttttttttttttt

  • Andy gave the girls a lick and a promise! Very well done bro.

  • What is it he's playing at 4:30? I know I've heard it, it's just slipped my mind right now.

  • sounded great with the van halen intro

  • wonton song

  • Don't think I heard a single bad sound on here, that pedal is sick!

  • "The most dynamic overdrive I've demoed here"!!! Without a doubt the best I've ever heard via video demo. Wow.

  • From the video this may be the best pedal I've ever heard. It goes from Van Halen to The Doors, and Zep is stuck in the middle, all with no problem. Am I crazy? Is this the best drive pedal ever made? I mean, you can find a $20 Bad Monkey to contend with the $900 Klon, but I've heard no Cool Cat or Digitech that has this range or pick dynamic options. Very impressive.

  • In my opinion, you can't put a price on tone. . . I don't see too much in this pedal for me, but that doesn't mean it isn't another man's holy grail. You would be hard pressed to find another overdrive that is that dynamic, by the way. . .

  • It saddens me to think that somone doesn't know this song, but I'm not here to judge. The song is Panama by Van Halen.

  • I was never really a pedal guy and pretty much relied the amp to provide the tones I needed, but these Mad Professor pedals are awesome. I run the Sweet Honey and a Sky Blue and they do the trick big time! Pricey, but IMHO you get what they advertise.

  • wow, this pedal is 300 on ebay. was thinking about buying it, but not now! ill stick with my boss

  • Boss distortion is crap.

  • with the Keeley mod they sound amazing.

  • no way dude buy it.

  • wanton song!!!!!

    Get the led out.!!!!!!!!!

  • sounds very good but too rich for my blood.

  • Panama

  • The OCD is a different kind of pedal. It is a warmer drive with a lot more compressions. Mad Professor is cheap compared to the BJF pedals which they are based upon. Most European pedals tend to be pretty pricey.

  • a great pedal very dynamic, played by the pedal master !!!

  • PANAMA!!!

  • Wanton Song!

  • Go Scotty!

  • Nice Panama interlude at that beginning haha

  • This is my favourite overdrive, check out my demo on my YouTube channel :)

  • Sounds good, nice rendition of panama

  • nice...back door man..

  • does he still play a 65 soho in his other vids?

  • up until a few months ago he used one. now he uses a deluxe twin reverb

  • He uses a Deluxe Reverb, no such thing as deluxe twin reverb.

  • Man this guy always has the best licks for his pedal reviews...gotta love the wanton song!!!

  • or a Fulltone OCD with identical controls, and in my opinion more musical overdrive. For half the price.

  • nope , the OCD does not stand a chance to this pedal .

  • But the OCD is half the price.

  • and the cool cat drive is a third of that.

  • wasn't the cool cat a direct copy of the timmy. i heard there was a lawsuit or legal issue on something about dano copying the timmy

  • haha 300 is wayy steep. and like someone else said. you can get a tubescream turbo for about 100 and it has way more tones

  • This is the John Deere of overdrive pedals.

  • The Wanton Song & Sick As A Dog - Niiicee!!

    PGS should review Gearmanndude's Lutherdrive

  • Nice! Aerosmith Lick and a Promise

  • Panama!

  • susssssssssie q.

  • Susie Q, i love you

    Great Overdrive.

  • very dynamic(better be for $300)

  • Doesnt sound that great, id rather get the Fulltone Fulldrive 2 MOSFET which sounds better for half the price and has a boost function to make it like a distortion

  • wow 300 bucks!!? not a smart move with pedals like the tubescreamer that are so good and for half the price

  • This must be the greatest pedal ever for 300 bucks Jesus.

  • It is haha. I don't think it's worth it. But even if it were worth it, it'd be too much money.

  • 300?!!!!!!!!!!

    sheeeeeeet!

it better do the housework too

  • I agree when you can get the twosome which has more options for less

  • I had a twosome last night.

And I agree with you - this is a killer pedal, but $300 is waaayy too much for an overdrive. You can get more for less.

  • such as?

  • Xotic BB, Paul Cochrane Timmy, Lovepedal Eternity to name a few

  • Well the twosome is a dual Fuzz.. This is an overdrive, entirely different beast. I'm more of a fuzz person though anyways.

  • It is a heck of a lot less expensive than their amps though. :p

  • whats the first song?

  • end of solo to Panama by Van Halen

  • With a name and sound like that, no wonder it's so goood! thanks for posting :)
