I have been searching high and low for the best pedal to put a little "hair" on my tone without too much crunch or overdrive. This is the ticket. It sounds like you just turned up the preamp of your amp - it doesn't affect existing tone. Side by side with the $400 KOT it was better, much better. The overdrive is VERY dynamic; you get quiet if you pick soft, you get grit if you attach hard.
how does this compare to the OCD? I'm playing indie-punk-rock and I want a sweet overdrive sound that doesn't sound to harsh but still can be driven to the edge for some nice bottom ends
again, those zep licks! great.......good way to demo a pedal mate.....and Doors licks!!!! right on....oh, now aerosmith.....you r killing me......select cool tracks
@TOPPSSELLER - It's not cranked. We like to start with a clean-ish tone so you can hear the pedal do it's thing. We keep the deluxe well above bedroom level, however. More like "average club gig" level. Thanks!
@ProGuitarShopDemos sorry for my deviation from the pedal and my ignorance but unfortunately i haven't played yet with a vintage tube amp like fender twin or deluxe reverb, so can't you get a nice distortion/overdrive with amp's volume or gain knobs without a pedal ?
@bulenterdem1977 - On a vintage-style tube amp, like a Deluxe or a Twin, there is no gain knob (aka a "non-master volume" amp). This means you have to crank it to saturate the tubes and get overdrive...which also means it's going to be extremely loud. And a Twin, for instance, is designed to stay fairly clean at high volumes. A good OD or distortion functions as pre-amp gain, and allows you to have any level of gain you wish at a much more comfortable volume.
little question if youd hook this up to a tele and a blackstar HT5 mini stack would it be better to use this one over the clean or over the distorted channel???
@victortolast12345 a preamp boosts your signal and gives it some light distortion, and an overdrive pedal gives you light distortion and usually boosts your signal.
A preamp usually boost the signal and offers some EQ, but shouldn't colour the sound in any other way, you would youse it to boost your amp into overdrive or change the basic sound from your guitar. An OD pedal on the other hand usually has more character of its own, adding a different flavour to your sound. They do overlap a bit though.
for those of you who want an od that's just as good but for way less, check out the CMATMODS signa drive. blows the OCD out of the water for less $ too
Saw this, bought the Pedal about a month ago. Every day I'm amazed. Brings out the best in other pedals big time!. Best OD I have ever tried. Best top 5 EVER
From the video this may be the best pedal I've ever heard. It goes from Van Halen to The Doors, and Zep is stuck in the middle, all with no problem. Am I crazy? Is this the best drive pedal ever made? I mean, you can find a $20 Bad Monkey to contend with the $900 Klon, but I've heard no Cool Cat or Digitech that has this range or pick dynamic options. Very impressive.
In my opinion, you can't put a price on tone. . . I don't see too much in this pedal for me, but that doesn't mean it isn't another man's holy grail. You would be hard pressed to find another overdrive that is that dynamic, by the way. . .
I was never really a pedal guy and pretty much relied the amp to provide the tones I needed, but these Mad Professor pedals are awesome. I run the Sweet Honey and a Sky Blue and they do the trick big time! Pricey, but IMHO you get what they advertise.
The OCD is a different kind of pedal. It is a warmer drive with a lot more compressions. Mad Professor is cheap compared to the BJF pedals which they are based upon. Most European pedals tend to be pretty pricey.
Doesnt sound that great, id rather get the Fulltone Fulldrive 2 MOSFET which sounds better for half the price and has a boost function to make it like a distortion

whats different from this amazing OD pedal
from a preamp?
lets say the bb pre amp.
How different do they work?
what different sounds do you get from both.
I just want to crank up my bluesy solos
and play some sweet rythyms
victortolast12345 2 years ago
@victortolast12345 a preamp boosts your signal and gives it some light distortion, and an overdrive pedal gives you light distortion and usually boosts your signal.
pretty much the same.
they change the wave shape and add harmonics
