Abortion has killed more human beings than the holocaust and most of the genocides and wars of history combined, the only difference: Holocaust survivors have a chance to speak about the atrocity, does that same chance come to babies killed in silence: who's entrails fill dumpsters? The problem I think with the catholic church was during the midevil ages when the church basiclly was the goverment. You can't run a country by religon, religon is a single persons belief and rules. I think you've pretty much identified the difficulty with many regimented, organised religions. A group of people are all trying to find the one interpretation which works for thousands of different perspectives on the world, because we each have our own.
You have to have the flexibility to say "Listen, this book helps you understand your experiences" not "This book is the answer, there's no need for the experiences."
I completely agree with you. The inconsistencies and contradictions in religion has turned me off completely to all of to religion entirely. The problem I think with the catholic church was during the midevil ages when the church basiclly was the goverment. You can't run a country by religon, religon is a single persons belief and rules. We haven't seen real christianity, I believe. Back in the first few hundred years of A.D. when christians were being killed and they were the minority, that was true christianity, in my opinion.

I guess I should rephrase and say that Notre Dame does not affect my education to the point where it is equal to the education from a community college. I went to catholic middle school and it sucked! Not because of the faith but because of the heretics associated (the people who are "holier than thou"). My overall point is that its not just Catholics that are doing it. The really scary uprising is evangelical "snake" churches. Its only the Catholic crazies that are heard.

one more...I actually stopped going to church for the same reason. My priest was terrible. So hypocritical in his homilies. But once I got to college and took my first theology class, I feel very enlightened on the faith.

Now, to really ramp up the conversation, I think that the problem here is in the American Catholic church. We don't get those kinds of venomous sermons in Canada. Mind you, this is all coming from an Agnostic Canadian Catholic, but I was shocked at the big debate about communion and Obama supporters that was raging during your election campaign.
We don't seem to have the same polarization up here. Maybe because it's too cold.

I think you've pretty much identified the difficulty with many regimented, organised religions. A group of people are all trying to find the one interpretation which works for thousands of different perspectives on the world, because we each have our own.
You have to have the flexibility to say "Listen, this book helps you understand your experiences" not "This book is the answer, there's no need for the experiences."

I completely agree with you. The inconsistencies and contradictions in religion has turned me off completely to all of to religion entirely. I hate the mentality of some religious leaders who feel "holier than thou" *pun intended* to formulate their own personal beliefs and impose them on people as religious truths. It creates so much hate and ignorance in the world, which goes against anything I ever thought religion was initially about.

I'm Protestant but I'll throw in my two cents.
I agree with you fully. People can have whatever opinions about whatever they want, and that's fine. But when they go off saying people are going to Hell and, for example, condoms are the reason for AIDS, you're going a little too far. I don't know about anyone else, but if Catholicism is looking for a way to push people away, they're doing a great job. If they feel someone is "lost", the last thing they should do is criticize and push them away.

Will, you should start your own religion. It'll be called WILLICISM. Where everybody supports Obama and you emphasize the fact that the holocaust was definately worse than abortion.

I am catholic, Pro-choice and agree with you.
I go to Notre Dame, I don't know if you've heard of the scandal... but ND chose Obama as the commencement speaker. An AMAZING honor right? He chose 3 schools in the entire country! You should SEE the backlash as a result of this. So many people are signing petitions writing in to the observer (paper) and its unbelieveable. I was at mass and someone stood up and yelled "let us pray that this university doesnt allow obama"

yea i wanted this vid to be as short as possible and hit on the point but that's how the priest started out. he bashed nd a whole bunch and prayed for them to turn from their wicked ways and not let obama come. WHICH IS REDICULOUS, he's not just some politican, he's the president.
i hope ur school admin stands strong and doesn't let these idiots not allow him to come.

and yea i'm on the fence with the issue, was leaning choice now leaning life tho didn't want to spend extra time on that whole side of it. just like didn't wana take up time going into the ND issue. the point i was tryinig (and hope) i got across is that the church is better when it focuses on Jesus and doesn't try to be all political.
