Anyone who calls this bike stupid for its size or shitty are probably all young and cocky, and most likely don't even have bikes. A 250 is a great beginner bike and good for commuting, maybe the guy who rides it is more experienced than you but only uses it to get from short distances around town and doesn't want to pay higher insurance just to say "I have the biggest engine"... Seriously who gives a fuck.
In my opinion, I would invest first into protective gear first than all those extra's.

I just bought my very first motorcycle. A ninja 250 and am slated for the MSF rider safety course. Like you I took my first ride on a family member's bike and just couldn't wait until I could get my own. It is a very good beginner bike.

lol well put. i wanted a ninja, and i had a choice between two different 250's and a 500, but i ended up going with a nighthawk 750. i ended up glad i chose this bike, i love it.
it redlines at i believe 14,000, it was my first time riding (no insurance, endorsement, ect) just in my apartments, so i didn't want to rev it higher than probably 6500 (or so)
The one thing i don't like about the aftermarket exhausts on a small bike like this one is that the bike sounds fast until you actually see it go by. And i see spending the money on an exhaust, especially a full exhaust system, as a partial waste of money on a bike like this, unless you plan to keep it for a while (which most don't). Its a great bike for somebody wanting to learn quickly, or for somebody who just wants a nice bike (not a scoot) for the city. Buy it, learn on it, and pass it on.

Learn on a 250cc, or a 125cc, you do NOT need more power then that. When you get used to all the aspects of a 125 or 250, then move up, but only after you've learned the basics.
A 250cc is a real bike. Any more for your first ride (unless you have experience with dirt bikes) is suicide. You are what's wrong with the motorcycle community.

start off with smaller bike, then you really appreciate the extra power when you get a more cc. I have a yamaha fz1000 and you have to watch the power, front end lifts at 90mph,dont think this is good for a novice.

i disagree, i think the 250r is a great bike for the price, and i think some people don't want to go 200mph. as far as you being ready for a 1000cc bike after 6 months, all i have to say is dont get too cocky, thats when u lay it down.

I just bought the 08 ninja 250 2 weeks ago and I'm also a girl.. 5'4. I can not flat foot it on both sides so theres alot of tip toeing but once you get the feel for the bike and the center of gravity its easy to keep upright. youre probably not going to find a better fitting or smaller bike. Its an awesome bike :) and if you have to..there are things you can do to get it a little lower

my first ride this summer was a honda cbr 600 f4!! 3 months after i crushed and i still miss it.. but i think 250 are good starter before you kill yourself on 600

ahhahaha man i love LA bike season is 24/7 i love taking my 250 on the freeway and letting her drop a 100mph like a breeze. its a 250 but boy can she run and handle. yeah ofcourse ima upgrade to a 600 in a few months but im going to miss the 250 because of the things its done for me so far.

You idiot. Only brickheads learn on a 600cc motorcycle. A 600 can go far, far faster then the speed limit, and you'll end up on your beeind real easy.

if you know you are going to out grow a 250 then dont waste money, if you plan on sticking with one then great. if you aren't responsible enough to know your limits with a 600 then you shouldnt be on a bike.

Learn on a 250cc, or a 125cc, you do NOT need more power then that. When you get used to all the aspects of a 125 or 250, then move up, but only after you've learned the basics.

true . i have experience from a rm85 dirbike . so wen i 1st rode my dad motorcycle it was smooth .. just a bit confusing with all the gadets on a motorcycle lol but i did good. pulled bout 45 mph lol .. its a 2001 honda cbr929rr

yup very powerful . lol i remember on my old dirtbike a 110 .. that was modded and can do bout 60 with me on it ... well this was wat happend i let the clutch out way to fast and gave it gas and i did bout a 10 o clock wheelie.. lol now if i was on a rm85 atm or a cbr929.. i would have died lol. so yea i think people should by a dirtbike with a clutch and gears b4 hopping on a motorcycle..

i somewhat agree with you....... but it all depends on the type of riding the person is gonna do, maybe for the type of riding he does its a perfect bike and he doesent need a 600 or more cc bike. so it would be worth putting money on it, there is a reason he bought it in the first place

start off with smaller bike, then you really appreciate the extra power when you get a more cc. I have a yamaha fz1000 and you have to watch the power, front end lifts at 90mph,dont think this is good for a novice.

I've heard the other side of that.. I heard you wanna get more CCs for your first bike so you're not afraid of it when you decide you wanna move up to a 500 or so after you've been riding a 250 forever..

no thats bullshit....most people buy 1000s because other people who know nothing about bikes or life tell them they should. that is such an americen thing to do "bigger is better", when in fact 250cc is enough for beginners, and can easily exceed all the legal limits on any street

A 250cc bike is MORE THAN ENOUGH for ANYBODY. Nobody needs to go faster than 160km/h, but, once you're experienced you can decide to push your riding skills a little further...

Its an addiction that you cant stop. Once you ride...yer hooked. Congradulations on your first ride. Stay safe, and dont let those HP monkeys tell you you need a bigger bike. 250cc is more than enough for riding. Unless your professionally racing, anything more than 500cc is a waste of money.

in france maximum hp on all bikes is 104hp and for young riders 34 HP !! so i prefer to take a full 33HP

what you say is true, but you have to give the 250 a try. i got a cbr600, r1, and a gsxr600 but i still like driving my friends 250r the only thing the 250 lacks is performance.

i disagree, i think the 250r is a great bike for the price, and i think some people don't want to go 200mph. as far as you being ready for a 1000cc bike after 6 months, all i have to say is dont get too cocky, thats when u lay it down.

Reminds me of my first ride... but it was a suzuki SV650... kinda suprised i didnt drop it though. I was learning how to ride on it with a semi flat tire in a gravel alley way... hhah.
kudos to all first timers though. I still cant wait to get my first bike.

I just bought the 08 ninja 250 2 weeks ago and I'm also a girl.. 5'4. I can not flat foot it on both sides so theres alot of tip toeing but once you get the feel for the bike and the center of gravity its easy to keep upright. youre probably not going to find a better fitting or smaller bike. Its an awesome bike :) and if you have to..there are things you can do to get it a little lower
