Doing that is admirable, great respect to Bono, Damien Rice, Glen Hansard and Mundy for doing that. However, I'd have a lot more respect for Bono if he didn't keep all his money offshore in order to avoid paying tax here, some of which would also go to helping the less fortunate.
i agree with you to a certain extent, but when you are a multi million dollar business decisions are made by not by one but by majority. Perhaps mr hewson was against the move to Holland. We will never know till we ask. Best of Luck

Didn't Bono have some homeless gypsies evicted from squatting on his Killiney mansion grounds a few years ago? Remember the story because it seemed pretty rich that he uses gypsie imagery in his vids.
i think this is really cool though i mean there all doing very well for themselves and definitely don't need to busk... was this organised by a shop or anything??
I think if you asked Bono whether they were the best he'd list hundreds better. Clayton is one of the most limited bassists on the planet and Edge technically not much better. Equating success as being a benchmark for quality is very much Celtic Tiger. The other 3 are just glorified hippie buskers with 3 chords between them.
MrNollum you sound like a failed musician to me. Bono is one of the greatest frontmen of all time in what is well known as the hardest working band in the business. They worked hard for and deserve any accolade they get today. They are great ambassadors for Ireland. Also anyone who mentions 'human rights' in the context of giving an opinion on their taste in music should get a life. Rock on Bono and U2. F*** the jealous bitter begrudgers.
@MrNollum. Good Comeback. Listen Bono could sit at home with all his millions scratching his hole all day. Instead he has a relantless work ethic towards his music and other activities. I think to begrudge people of their success is a very negative attitude to have. Whether it be business, sport or music I think that to aspire to be more like successful people can only have a positive influence on your own life. Its easy to begrudge these people, but a lot harder to copy them. Anyways, peace!!!
MrNollum. I have a life, that is why I am not a jealous bitter twisted begrudger like yourself, but I suppose that is one of your 'human rights' to live in the dark ages. Clown!!!
Is this comment tinged with a hint of jealously that Bono and U2 had the drive, determination, ambition and music ability to do something with their talent, instead of being a busker for 30 years? Sure you wouldn't be here slagging them off if the boot was on the other foot!
Bono and U2 made it big, and they bring joy to many people. Get over it!
I got a question.I think I see Ali, Bonos wife wearing glasses and standing back from his left.anyone know if that was her? its too blurry to tell but im most certain it is.Love U2! saw them here in Oct.want to come to Ireland someday soon. thanks!
Everybody please chill. Glen is a good guy. But Bono is one in a billion. I'm an Irish expat who lives in California. U2 have done more for the image of Ireland than everyone else put together. They've performed together for 3 decades and reliably created unforgettable music on every disc. Get with the program, cos they are the real thing!
Bono took a big chance going on the street like that, what with people like the Pope, Berlusconi and Leona Lewis being attacked recently. It was bloody freezing in Dublin on Christmas night and they played for an hour. Good going guys.
The meaning of Christmas. Great occasion for a great cause. Wish we could do that here in NYC but everyone would want to be paid(fakes). Say what you want about the B man. He could have been anywhere else in the world. Maybe next Christmas Eve, U2 playing Grafton Street in the snow? Magical.
can't imagine how awful it is to be homeless, and in the last week it must have been just unbearable. Fair play to the simon community for supporting those people who are on our streets this christmas. Fair play to Glen, Bono et al for supporting the simon community!
Fair play lads out busking for the homeless on christmas eve. Irish celebs are the real deal unlike all those fake plastic celebs from across the pond!!!
Jesus I wish I was Irish just to see this wonderful thing right before my eyes. "One" is always such a thrill for me, I couldn't help crying watching the video. Great. Merry Christmas, ya'll!
This could only happen in Ireland. The country might be broke but you can never break the spirit if the Irish..Well done to Glen,Bono and all the lads....
Your getting carried away with yourself there foreign dole sucker. Your country was soo good you came to Ireland? So YOU have a great house, no job, no money, no prospects, no car, but are the greatest driver in the EU? Or have i misunderstood?
I've been a busker since 1969 and it pains me to see the useless so-called "bono" and that other spineless creature trying to grab the limelight on a Christmas Eve. Thats why Ireland is in such a rut today, the grabbers have grabbed it all and still want to pick the pockets of the poor at every opportunity.
to get rid of problems like poverty etc, you cant just have people like Bono throw money at it, the world has to want to get rid of it ourselves, else the same problems would just occur again and again regardless of how much money someone like Bono just donated out of his own pocket. But as usual, any excuse to bring the guy down....
I've recently written a beautiful Christmas song, and I've uploaded it to YouTube today, but as I don't have many subscribers etc, it's gotten very few views and comments on it. I would love to hear ur opinion on it. Just click my user name, it's my latest upload.
Thanks! And if u like it, please leave a comment.
(btw, sorry for spam, IrelandCaptured, but I can't think of any better way to let people know bout my Christmas song...)
fuck the begrudgers ...........fair play to glen and bono two of the best singers this country has produced for people who do not know glen check out a song called revelate. a great song
the real hero in this is glen hansard. learned his trade singing like this on the street, and in that area would wipe the floor with bono, but that said they are very diff artists. glen hansard put this together to raise money for the simon community, and fair play he got bono to come. love or hate bono, he was there , he joined in, and his name to any event will draw the crowds. but glen is a true unsung hero of ireland
People who hate, usually are just upset with something about themselves. Wish them a Happy Christmas! Looks like a good time. Not Bono's fault the tax system is the product of years of a lack of vision by everyone in the sweet home of eire. There is something we can do though its get up and make our voices heard and get a new political system which is fairer. Of course the haters will then have nothing to winge about. Mayber they will just complain more>>??
@john30yt so why watch a video with Bono in? I can't understand fucktards like you. If you're ever near leeds let me know - i'll put you out your misery
totally agree leinster and mrsfunky!! its a real cool moment. thats what christmas spirt and the old irish is about. anyone who crits this are begrudgers, its cool i recon, real cool, happy christmas everyone!
@Englandareshit , you are right, U2 are a cash cow, nothing good has come from them since achtung baby, bono is full of it. wipe out the debt man! 80 euro to see our concert man
John30, Ye sad litte bastard ye. You miss the whole point. This is what the Irish are. Spontaneus and not in awe of one of their own who made it. We like to sing and have de craic. Bono tuns up in Grafton St. on Christmas Eve. Everybody joins in. Wonderful. Imagine this happening anywhere else? Not possibIe. Bono knows this. I live in Amsterdam, But. Love my Home Town. This shows why, nicely. There are NO TV cameras there.Go figure. Kop on to yer sad self and get a life! Happy Christmas btw.
thanks for the good wishes btw, I'm not having a go at his music career, not at all, U2 are probally one if not the best band in the world and I used to have great pride in Bono, but that's all gone now with the stance he takes these days trying to save the world. I'm sick of it as are his own band members. why don't they just give him a nobel prize, he at least probally deserves it more than the greatest COCKSUCKER of all time B OBAMA! I lived in amsterdam for a while, shithole too.Happy x-mas

What an egotistic wanker bono is, had to make his arrival throught the crowd so they would cheer this so called hero on. Fair play to the other lads but leave this wanker at home in his mansion in dalkey before he startes to tell everyone on grafton st to give away their money to what is a waste of time.
i freaking love you too.. haha i heard about this and i never expected videos... this is unbelievable... bono, damo and glen? wow... I fucking love glen. such a humble, genuine guy like some people have mentioned... just unbelievable. one of my heros...
Twas all the result of Glen's idea for anyone who plays an instrument to busk for an hour every Christmas Eve. He just pitched this idea 48 hours ago. What an outstanding response!
Amen to that! I've been playing catch up with Glen's life via YouTube since watching ONCE. Saw him here in Denver last month. I was encoraged to stay after the concert and did. He & Colm signed a handmade Ukelele my husband made and I have an awesome picture with him. He's not only talented, but so , well as you say genuine and centered. A truly inspiring person
I stumbled across Glen Hansard on Grafton St today just when he, Mundy and Paddy Casey were discussing where to set up. Shortly afterwards Damien Rice arrived, then Liam O Maonlai and they played for an hour and 45 minutes! Bono arrived much later on and didn't do too well, forgetting the words to Stand By Me and One. Still, it was an amazing impromptu show and hopefully the Simon Community did well out of it! Thanks for posting.

the real hero in this is glen hansard. learned his trade singing like this on the street, and in that area would wipe the floor with bono, but that said they are very diff artists. glen hansard put this together to raise money for the simon community, and fair play he got bono to come. love or hate bono, he was there , he joined in, and his name to any event will draw the crowds. but glen is a true unsung hero of ireland

Says the "man" that loves MAZDA RACING IN MILWAUKEE! ?????????
john30yt 2 years ago
People who hate, usually are just upset with something about themselves. Wish them a Happy Christmas! Looks like a good time. Not Bono's fault the tax system is the product of years of a lack of vision by everyone in the sweet home of eire. There is something we can do though its get up and make our voices heard and get a new political system which is fairer. Of course the haters will then have nothing to winge about. Mayber they will just complain more>>??

Are you not a hater too, of the government? I express my point as much as you do yours, you hate the gov and I hate bono

This comment has received too many negative votes show
What an egotistic wanker bono is, had to make his arrival throught the crowd so they would cheer this so called hero on. Fair play to the other lads but leave this wanker at home in his mansion in dalkey before he startes to tell everyone on grafton st to give away their money to what is a waste of time.

It didn't take long for the detractors to come out and slate Bono

Twas all the result of Glen's idea for anyone who plays an instrument to busk for an hour every Christmas Eve. He just pitched this idea 48 hours ago. What an outstanding response!
womanatwittsend 2 years ago
He then spent an hour and ghalf signing autographs and taking photos and gave genuine attention to each person.
I just stood at HMV there and watched and even though I had a copy of The Swell Season I wanted signed, I just coudn't go up to him,
He is so underrated in this country.
A true legend and an exceptional song writer. More talent in his little finger than Bono has in his whole body.
Check out the vid of him busking to fans that were in the queue to see him in the states.

I was gutted when Bono came in ..
No axe to grind with him as he's alright in my eyes.
But Spirit is one of my favourite tracks and to hear Glen singing it was class. Ah well ..
IrelandCaptured 2 years ago
I stumbled across Glen Hansard on Grafton St today just when he, Mundy and Paddy Casey were discussing where to set up. Shortly afterwards Damien Rice arrived, then Liam O Maonlai and they played for an hour and 45 minutes! Bono arrived much later on and didn't do too well, forgetting the words to Stand By Me and One. Still, it was an amazing impromptu show and hopefully the Simon Community did well out of it! Thanks for posting.
