Love it! I had a black and tan male named Nigel. Now I have a red named DaisyMae. Not both at once! You're brave. ;) Everytime they shake we all duck for cover!
we had a bloodhound (we called her a buddhound tho) when i was little. once she was digging in the trash and i went to see what she was doing. well being territorial she bit me. I didnt seem to mind though. She wasnt even one yet, and i had just turned 2. i am 18 now and theres a spot on my eye brow that doesnt grow where she "ruffed" me. i miss her every day. but i will always have my little bald spot to remember my gertie with! She was by far the greatest dog we ever had.
Your hounds look just like my uncles ones in belize he has 10 6 boys 4 girls he hunts wit them they're the same color as these all of them are brothers and sisters lol my favorite one was one named anna may she was huge
Just wondering, since you have a lot of bloodhounds, how often do they live? I heard the average life span is 6.75 years. But mine is very healthy. I don't know if it makes a difference but she was the runt and a twin.
awesome dogs, i got one about a year ago and that's hard to believe. but they are truly amazing animals( though a bit stubborn) but very expressive. i couldnt ask for a better dog.
I really like the rest of the comment here, very nice and constructive. I would love to get a bloodhound. I was thinking they were very laid back and sleepy, I am sure I was wrong, I think they are very active.
God Bless the Bloodhound if you have never experienced this fabulous dog you are missing out. I am on my third, When it gets down to work I say get him Buck and I hang on for dear life,But the affection they show is incredible
Yes, it is exactly true. Now I have at home 9 bloodhounds of 3 generations and living with them is wonderful experience. Is very diffcult to find equally noble creatures....
I have a jack russel that ive trained not to track but find things. When we were on holiday last, after an 2 hours of walking my missues couldnt find her phone so i sent the dog looking and she found it.
Im intereseted in getting a bloodhound and using it to find missing pets.
They're among the hardest breed to train. They're very smart, but stubborn. I've had two and they've been the biggest joys in my life. You'll often find yourself lost in wonderful moments just admiring how beautiful they are. About the biting... if he's a puppy, yelp loudly, as if injured when he bites.. If he's old already, biting people is not anything BH's do. It is highly abnormal. Discipline must be steadfast. Try as he may, you have to win. Never mean or cruel, but be firm.
The short answer is yes, but they must be trained to track. They all have an incredible sense of smell, but for them to track, like you see in movies and on TV, it takes time and training.
Thanks for your reply. I live in New Zealand and there is a 2 year old girl who has gone missing in Auckland (probably abducted), our biggest city. It amazes me that no one has come forward with a tracking dog to at least have a go in finding her, bloodhounds are not common here, I think there is only one breeder in the whole country. I own 2 border collies by the way.
@56yqc that is unfortunate. My first bloodhound, his Father worked for the Wisconsin Police,he tracked a scent of an abductor that was in an automobile,he found him 3 miles down the road stopped.Their ability to pick up scent is unbelievable. The secret is always trust your dog!
apparently bloodhounds have like 3-4 times more scent cells in the nose than the next best tracking dog...and aprox 30 times more than humans, but of course they also have a bigger part of the brain that takes care of smelling than humans have, gram per gram.
hey guys, im a new blood hound owner and i have been doing training and everything but im still having a lot of problems with him and biting/jumping. Does this tend to mellow out alot as they get older?
Bloodhound to my knowledge are one of the toughest dogs, Police Force use their power sense, to track down people. I love them, but i only have a beagle :D
so great, I'm laying with Mine (Bo Duke) right now hes still just a pup 1 year 3 months.... 4 of them cant imagine must be a lot of slobber. I want another!
That is the worst thing I ever heard, I truly feel bad for you and family, something similar happened with me. My neighbor hated dogs and one day put meatballs with rat poison in my yard and killed my beagle. I sincerly hope justice was done.
Does any body know if these dogs are bread in Ireland? My father really wants one but I cant find a breeder in Ireland. Or is there a way to safely get them imported to Ireland? It would mean alot to my father as he wanted one for a long time?
There are many kennels of bloodhouunds in England and in Scandinavian States.
In 2009 in Dublin will be taken the European Dog Show- with a lot of bloodhounds from all the Europe- my dogs will be present, too. It would be the best opportunity to see the dogs and to contact the breeders, I suppose. Cordial greetings.
they are just the greatest dogs...i used to dogsit one of them, and the drool was just something you got used to. He's gone now, but i'd give anything to have him back and breathing his breath in my face and shaking his goobers everywhere....
We have a 160lb Bloodhound named Red (thats the size of a Timber Wolf ladies and germs). He's not obese or overweight, he's just been big ever since he was born.
My dogs don't drool so much... Naturally, when they are stressed, could drool as all dogs with long lips, but in normal life it is no problem. By the way, I remember about the clean the lips after every long walk in the forest... They go with the nose on earth and return home with dirty lips...
those are all pretty unfit, they all definitely need to get let off there leash and get some more excersixe cause except fort that 1 that keeps submitting those other 2 are faaaat
apparently you aren't very familiar with this breed. all of these dogs look to be in good weight/health to me. these dogs are not meant to be slim/slender like some other breeds of dogs. they are built to be big.
My bloodhounds are very gentle and kind dogs, they are the best companions of the long walks. For the pushing dogs the best thing is the halter, not collar. I use the halters for many years and my dogs like it.
One of my puppies is named Queen Mary- Mary is a good name for a bloodhound....
Yeah, the number one problem for hounds would be the howling/barking. I still sometimes think my mom should've gotten a lab, she complains too much about the dog pulling and barking on walks
after watching your dogs, countless other bloodhound videos, and watching my own, it's clear that all bloodhounds have the same demeanor and playful qualities. Beautiful dogs!
