In 1967 Mario Andretti won with Daytona 500 in a 67 427 Ford Fairlane built by Holman-Moody. He wore a crash helmet, cotton shirt, dress slacks and Hush Puppie shoes at speeds way above the junk that is out there today..the first nom-American born driver to do so...and these punks nowadays think they are hot shit...they are wimps.

@spacepatrolman..when and where was that???...I kew he tried the quarter mile and did poorly, but every Nascar driver that tried drag racing when tits up... non of them can come close to a ride in a nitro car. That is why there is Nascar..it's for people that can spell.."nitromethane"..

@spacepatrolman..and so was the Ford 429 Boss...GM was sucking wind and could not win..today the rules are all in favor of GM..it took Jack Rousch 10 years to get Nascar to approve a different cylinder head for his Fords...but GM gets whatever, whenever, as a result..no watches Nascar anymore with their yellow caution lights on the last lap..Nascar sucks and there are "NO" yellow lights in NHRA.... RR

@DAVIDMC101 my father used to tell me dont stand by that fence at island dragway a car could jump the gaurd rail the worst things that happened when I was there was a belt came off a supercharger and a carburator fire im glad you didnt get killed I hope you werent hurt.

The crash at the end is footage of my uncle, Rod Eulenfeld crashing at Daytona. He escaped the crash with only singed eye brows.
