Cheetah and Lioness are the biggest cats that purr like a domestic cat..

Greater cats all purr but it comes off different than a domestic cat or any lesser wildcats.

Big cat rescue i have a question recently i was practicing approaching a lion slowly and silently on my kitties and my cat approached me similar to the lion in Into the Pride so i was wondering what makes a cat view us as a friend were as a lion sees us as dinner?

Our pets are domesticated and have been for thousands of years, they're also comfortable around us, associate us with food, and other good stuff like being stroked etc... so they have no reason to fear us.

Lions on the other hand are not used to seeing people everyday, we are a foreign object and are always seen as a threat and they always think that we may be dangerous etc... so they will always act like they do to people.

The best thing you can do to really save a big cat species is to support the parks that have them living in the wild, (we do this...do you?) or the facilities that house the SSP program animals. We are not killing off any specie, but rather controlling the over population of them in private captive settings. By doing this more efforts can be put towards the important wild populations.

they aren't killing them. what would you rather have, a controlled population? or poor kittens full of deceases corssing the streets and getting spattered by cars because some one didn't neuter their cats?

The problem isn't that we need to breed more animals to "preserve" the species. It's that we need more animals living in the wild. All they really need are places to live and to be left alone. More cats in zoos won't help the wild population.
