Religion only sets the guidelines for living, what people do to corrupt it for their own purposes is not the fault of the creator. I believe that there was a time that the dinosaurs walked the earth, but I also believe in Eden. There is a lot about our history that we don't know and really can't prove beyond a reasonable doubt. What we have to do is look at the present through the lens of history.

@tonygmilan7 Catholics believe in creation, but we're free to believe in evolution as long as it does not reject God's hand in it. There are two kinds of evolution - Darwinian evolution which the Church rejects, and evolution in the sense of adapting to ones environment. Catholics must believe in Adam and Eve as real people created and placed on earth by God. We can believe in a young earth (6K years old) or old earth (millions of yrs old) as long as we believe God created everything.
