If the economy collapses prices will drop on anything you buy. When there is less money the dollar becomes more valuable. And money will be worth much more than your gold. Do the math. If you buy gold now and the price rises and you sell the gold, you will make a profit. If you are holding gold when the economy collapses it will only be worth what the dollar is valued at. You will have made no profit. Remember, in the early 1900's all gold was confiscated. No one was allowed to own gold. History

I'm sorry sir, but you are so wrong about the value of gold. The price of gold does not go up, it's just because the dollar is shrinking. When the dollar shrinks, you need more of them to buy the same ounce of gold. The only thing with real value is currency. If the economy collapses then gold and silver and gemstones are going to be what goes down in value. Metals and gemstones have almost no practical value. There only worth money as long as people want them. If theres a economic crisis then the commdities that actually have practical uses such as food items and raw materials are whats going to be important because gold wich cant be used for much wont be worth anything. I recommend buying a bit of land in a small rural community well outside of the city and getting to know your neighbours, digging a well, putting up a fence, building a banya and buying a shotgun, food and something your can trade.

It was not that long ago that EVERYONE kept AT LEAST a FEW MONTHS of Food on hand for everyone in their family..its not that much work to do that

Btw, I have two 12oz silver coins that were bought back in 1993 for $75 apiece.

My opinion, though, is that food and water _may_ be more valuable than anything else in coming years, and even silver and gold might lose their value. Granted, you'd have to have a near-apocalypse for something like that to happen, but you never know.

If you plan to stock up with food for though times you should also remember to keep your supplies well hidden. History has shown that in times of deep crisis, or when the martial law is declared. Police and military force could begin massive confiscation of private supplies, mainly food and fuel.

You are correct in the confiscation post.

My great great grand fathers farm in Europe during WW1 was raided and ransacked by "officials" no less. My gggmother kept the family alive through the coming winter by having hid a piglet while all else was taken. If it were not for her, the entire family would have starved. They lived off of the land from what was left in field and survived secretly raising the pig w/their scraps which in turn kept the family alive.
