This is hilarious. Shaw was not justifying exterminating Jews, or Social Democrats, or homosexuals or any of the people that Hitler would later target. In fact, he often made fun of Hitler for taking eugenics to such retarded extremes.
This came from a March 1931 newsreel in which he was asked by the press what he thought would make for viable and reasonable reforms to the English system of criminal justice. He thought CRIMINALS should have to be examined like this, not everybody and anybody.
Oh read some real factual evidence. In the Nazi Germany douring the 20s and 30s workers often switched between NSDAP and the communist party back and forth. Before Hitler took over the party completely there were voices inside the party elite calling for the unification with the german socialist party. The Nazis were socialists in their rhetoric, program and promises and that is all you need to garner support from leftists.
Since when did George Bernard Shaw become 'a popular British playwright'?
So a man who was born, reared & educated in Dublin to Irish parents, and later went on marry an Irishwoman. A man who had no intention of accepting public honour & despised people basked in self-gratification, but accepted his Nobel Prize & Oscar solely in tribute to his native Ireland, is British?
If that's the case then, William Shakespeare was an true Irishman, whilst the Queen of England is of proud Congolese stock.
Plus, G B Shaw often used sarcasm when talking to people that he felt were taking eugenics too far. He believed in a natural attraction process. For him that meant a Queen should have the right to marry a sailor, if they were so attracted. A belief that was shocking to the class system prevalent in that day. But I've seen people twist his sarcasm to say that he believed in a Hitler's ideals of an aryan nation. Not true. GBS's comments were laced with sarcasm and irony.
This interview with George Bernard Shaw was from a newsreel interview released on March 5, 1931, dealing with alternatives to the imprisonment of criminals. He was advocating a humane, drug-induced death penalty for violent criminals... not the general public as implied in this video. Hmmm... much like the system we have the U.S. now.
Thank you for bringing that to my attention as im looking for the whole context (indeed the whole thing) myself. I take it you must have seen the complete newsreel interview in order for you to make that comment? I would like to know where i could obtain it, or at the very least a transcript of it.
I dont mind being the 1000th person seeming foolish to some by saying that it was sarcasm in the hope that at least one person will see the truth behind this brainwashing.
PEOPLE HE WAS BEING SARCASTIC! the fact that nice music, soothing narrators voice and the testimonies of `experts` make it look genuine is another thing...
I wonder what the ppl who cant see sarcasm here would comment about Swift`s `A Modest Proposal`...
Many "intellectuals" are power worshipers and humanity perfectors, hence they have long had an attraction for political extremists who want to "improve" the race using state coercion. While Stalin was murdering millions in the 30s, including most of the old Bolsheviks themselves, in America and other western countries many of the intellectual "elite" joined the Soviet controlled communist party or gave the USSR their support.
"We are socialists, we are enemies of today's capitalistic economic system for the exploitation of the economically weak, with its unfair salaries, with its unseemly evaluation of a human being according to wealth and property instead of responsibility and performance, and we are all determined to destroy this system under all conditions." --Adolf Hitler 1927............I have no problem with individuals engaging in voluntary socialism, but last I checked that is called charity.
@MrReco12 I stand corrected. The many sources I found attributing it to Hitler seemed a bit suspect. Thank you for remediating my mistake diplomatically. Whoops, wrong Nazi. :)
The stupid disinformation narrator needs to learn the science and historical use of Zyklon B. He would find that it was a delouse and pest fumigant that was also used in America.
Read the Declaration of Independence, the US Constitution, the Federalist Papers, George Washington's farewell address, Bastiat's essay the law. Then lets try liberty...Restore America 2012 Ron Paul for President. "There are two ways to conquer a nation. One is by the sword. The other is by DEBT." John Adams 2nd US Pres. We are under siege...we need to return to the blueprint of our republic. RON PAUL will take us there. Educate yourself, save the USA.
To anyone who thinks this is 'off the cuff' or exaggerated in some way, just go and read Marx's 'Communist Manifesto' where he says that the intellectuals, the weak, and the radicals, should all be killed off after the revolution; which happened in the Soviet Union. Socialism was created by the ruling class, for the ruling class. The romantic myths about it being 'for the people', are just that. As Orwell said: ''All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others..''
Its a great irony that the same socialists who have leaned towards eugenics have also put massive entitlement programs in place in the US, creating an entire class of people who fall under their criteria for extermination. Even today the same people who want government-funded abortions are simultaneously handing out the entitlements to leeches.
Shaw was once asked, if he was Irish or British, - his reply was ;-
" Simply because one is born in a pigsty, it does not necessarily imply that one is a PIG."
- I think that just about sums up his opinion of the Irish, - an opinion that was quite common among the " west brits" ( protesants in Dublin, or the 'pale' )
Shaw was also a fan of mohammad, the chap who invented islam, & liked to have sex with 9yo. girls. - in-between slaughtering thousands of innocents for not joining his new cult
Still, I'm not sure what the point is. If the point is that the "socialist left" supported Hitler, then that may be a over-statement, as many if not most opposed him.
As for Shaw, his statements are in keeping with the apparent popularity of such eugenicist ideas of the time.
Still, both Marxism and Nazism do share roots in the 18th century Enlightenment and the Age of Reason.
Only a moron would believe Stalin's excuse that a small let say eleven year old volga german boy had to be shot or deported to Siberia because that person might colaborate with the nazis.
@BENNYSIEGEL90 Stalin is not the only leader who has misinterpreted an ideology or used it for his own benefits. On the other hand Stalin was not the only Sovjet leader to claim what communism is and not the only reputable source for the way Communism schould be understood. It is peculiar that every time one is talking about socialism i USSR one is almost always referring to Stalin as if he was the only one who defined communism.
I am no Christian fundamentalist but it is interesting what Paul said about "intellectuals" twenty centuries ago, "Where is the wise, where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this age? Has not God made the wisdom of this world foolish?" 1st Corinthians 1;20. He'll be surprised how accurate he was had he been around in the first half of the XX century this biblical guy.
@vktrys, @andres6868, one must remember that Shaw never actually put his ideas into place- besides, he was a terrible narcissist who would say almost anything to attract attention, and there is still debate over whether or not he was being facetious. Nevertheless, although he may have been a loathsome person on more than a few points, the fact that he produced SOMETHING of value lends SOME worth to his existence.
@Marcinex22, he wrote "Pygmalion," "Heartbreak House," "Man and Superman," and "Major Barbara." He may not be anywhere near the aesthetic glory of an Ibsen, a Chekhov, a Pirandello, a Racine, a Moliere (much less a Shakespeare!), but at least Shaw composed a handful of immortal plays that more than excuse the man and his sins.
Wikipedia: "Some noticed that this was an example of Shaw satirically employing the reductio ad absurdum argument against the eugenicists' wilder aspirations: The Globe and The Evening News recognised it as a skit on the dreams of the eugenicists, though many others in the press took his words out of their satirical context."
Ignorance at the time, wilful ignorance in the hands of the right-wing propagandists who made this film.
I'm pretty sure this was meant to be satire at the time. Since it doesn't really match up with today's satire, everyone assumes he was serious. He was mocking contemporary views on eugenics.
@runningdrainwater Incorrect. George Bernard Shaw was well known as a supporter of the eugenics movement at the time. Thus the statements make absolute sense within that context, and are NOT satire. At the very least hit up the wikipedia article on eugenics and you'll see him listed along-side the rest of the famous supporters. The wikipedia article on Shaw also discuses his efforts at synthesizing eugenics theory with his socialist beliefs.
@jelkjn34 Oy you're using wikipedia to back up your statements? Oh well, I don't have the motivation to argue...plus you're probably right anyway. Keep in mind though, a lot of people in history are misunderstood today. That very wikipdedia article mentions how one of his speeches was misinterpreted at the time.
1:22 "Killing the parasites in society . . . " Did the writer of this actually ever read Marx? That statement is not just a distortion of Marx's writings, but complete nonsense. It would be like saying that an Algebra text book supported the genocide of Native peoples in the Americas. Incredible.
Now they try are trying to sterilise people with genetically modified food and murdering civilians in Sovereign Countries at the behest of the Banks. What is the difference? You're just too dumb to realise it!
For all those that that think this isnt real, it IS. However, he was talking in the context of this time period. Eugenics was a newer emerging science at the time. The video makes him seem that he is advocating Killing, but he is advocating Sterilization. Even the USA had sterilization programs. in states like California and Virgina, the US government sterilized tens of thousands of US Citizens. It was just another dark time in history.
@dominic150 Deadly gas sounds like killing... :) Or was he envisaging gas chambers for sperm? Anyway it's just depressing. That eugenics was a recent science is not even an excuse. The methods are new, but what's wrong is the bloody gall of presuming that anyone—him? the government? democracy?—can decide which human beings are to live or even just to reproduce (not having children is not a small thing if you happen to want them). And for what?Progress?Progress that forgets man is plain dumb.
I got figured out that if Hitler was never born, then it would be the communists taking over Europe and they would be part of the USSR since it was the communists that were the rivals of the Nazi Party.
@CesarManiaX if you watch this Doc, then you will understand that Nazism and Communism arent Ideological enemies, they are in fact the same. Nazism = racial genocide, Communism = class genocide. thats about the extent of the differences.
Pure nonsens- there is no class-struggle in nazism and no racial genocide in Communism. Communism and Nazism are ideological enemies and in real life marxists have fought nazism all over the world, both in writing and in direct combats. To compare the two ideologies by saying that because nazism has racial genocide and then claim that Communism has class genocide is like comparing Greenland with Australia because they both have big areas of land. It is ahistorical crap.
While I agree that Marx and Engels despite some nationalist opinions were no fans of pan-germanism and especially pan-slavism. This does not change the fact that slavic and asiatic communist did target certain ethnic groups like the volga germans because of their ethnicity.
@BENNYSIEGEL90 There is nothing in the Communism ideology that defend attack on ethnic groups in any way, but USSR had millions of people and amongst them there might of course be idiots. This happens in any country and one cannot defend oneself from idiots that might be acting, e.g. Stalin.
@wilstrup1 you obviously have no idea what marxist communism is then. In his manifesto, he calls for class warfare. They are very very similar. They may not be exactly the same, but the differences are slight. If it is in fact "pure nonsense" as you say it is, then give me some real world examples that show the big differences. My belief is that you spout off the ideas given to you by your high school history books. History books are at most a basic outline of history.
@dominic150 Until now you haven't certified your knowledge about what marxist communism is. I have taught for several years a.o. socialism, liberalism and communism with reference to reputable sources, so I am very much aware of what marxist communism is. With a teacher's degree and two university degrees and with journeys to both Eastern and Western Europe as well as contributing with articles about the subject matter, there is no way you can defame my knowledge about this. What is your excuse?
@wilstrup1 again, the question stands. What are the major differences as shown by a real world example? I hold a masters degree, but there is no reason to bring up personal credentials if the facts speak for themselves.
@dominic150 You claimed that I don't know anything about Communism - that is why I gave you my response in the way I gave it. Especially i noticed your perjorative and insulting manner "... that you spout off the ideas given to you by high school history books...". instead of using arguments which are well-researched. In other words: Nazi Germany killed thousands of people and so did the USSR. So this means that they both shared the same ideology? If so, there are babies in baby food.
@wilstrup1 the ideology of the two regimes are far more similar than they are different. I have had this argument with people before; then, as now, i could not get an answer of the major real world differences between the two. Im not insulting you, i want you to use an original thought instead of the the same history book garbage that i see everyone spouting off. If they are ideological opposites, it should be easy to show some examples.
@dominic150 Pure nonsens- there is no class-struggle in nazism and no racial genocide in Communism.
I can not watch this prejudiced video, I stopped after 50 seconds.
G.B.Shaw was one of the noblest man ever a life, why in hell would he support something like that? He was 100 % AGAINST killing. No sir, call me naive but I don't believe one piece of this vid.
@coldplayke if you watch the entire video it is very good. I have the Doc, its called "The Soviet Story". this part of it makes him look worse than the entire video. his part is about the idea of eugenics, which at that time was a valid science. he just said that the people that drain society shouldnt be carried simply because they exsist. thats the short of it.
@coldplayke how the hell can you not, look at the man's own words. For Christ's sake, he flat out says and i quote. "I appeal to the Chemists to invent a humane gas, one that is deadly by all means but a gentlemanly gas that kills instantly and is humane not cruel."- G.B. Shaw. Or This one. "We should parade the undesirable off to the gas chambers, while playing classical music." He was a monster. There was little noble about the man. No one is making this up! His own words condemn him!
I did not know about that, and I'm truely shocked. However, he did some good stuff too. He was one of the earliest men to defend women's rights, he was a vegetarian, when he won the nobel literature he refused the money. At first he also wanted to refuse the title, but his wife said he should accept it in the name of Ireland. I wouldn't say that there was little noble about him.
Nowhere did Shaw literally speak those horrible words! They spoke them for him, anyone could do that, about anything at all! It's what a bit of editing can achieve; that's all.....
well as much as his creepy ass statement complements with that eerie background hollow wind sound scares the shit out of me, gotta give him props cause that statement is the bitter truth of today's society, some people are pretty much useless I mean beggars are pitiful i agree but they put themselves in that situation, couldn't they at least find a job as a cleaner or any other task that benefits the country than they are considered useful
So if one believes in expanding equality of justice then he's all about murdering people... Yeah right. So what's the death toll at now? a billion? a trillion? Hey, When you have a better idea then you can propose your fucking idea. Sorry to be an exception to the rule you invented but I haven't murdered anyone. (yet)
Charlie Chaplin, a geniuous @ satire of current state of affairs. Made a movie which addresses the subject. "Monsier Verdeaux". He makes a living in France as a 'bluebeard', or serial killer of old rich widows, releiving them of thier wealth. It is a dark comedy ( yes a talkie), with an awsome ending, it is funnie and mirrors real life.
History shows that greed and tyrants are in every church, state, culture. Meglamaniacs and Assholes have no allegience but to thier personal motives. Leave out the ignorant blame. Please. Waatch a movie on the subject.
Charlie Chaplin's " Monsier Verdeaux", great talkie, and though he is a serial killer, one seems to see the sense in his vocation. it is lol as well
Not so fast ... Shaw was part of what was called the Anglo-Irish protestant ascendancy and was born and lived in Dublin at a time when it was part of the British "home countries". He lived in London from age 20 and was very much part of the left-wing British intelligentsia of his day. He was both Irish and British. But for this subject it should be noted that he was both a satirist and a polemicist and his comments on eugenics and Hitlerism should be seen in that context.
In his speech about Einstein (you can find it on youtube) you can hear him praise Einstein for his greatness, which was achieved without any blood on his hands, from any human being. He seems pretty serious there.. I dont know ofcourse, but I kind of wish Shaw to be the person I see at the speech, not the person that he seems to be in this clip.
@hayden50: No, no, the Obamanation has been very useful. He has had a wonderful clarifying effect on this world. If it hadn't been for him, all the "moderate" or "conservative" Democrats wouldn't have been forced to show their true colors. Now they will experience a route like none other in history. After Nov. 2012, this will be a very different country.
From his plays, some interviews, and from what I found about him, Shaw had a very wry sense of humour. Did he really mean that? It is often difficult to know whether he is serious and when he isn't.
He also had to re-evaluate his early views on Stalinist Russia.
When was he recorded as making the statements in the footage?
@benedicttucker What's riduculous is people like you trying to condone what he's saying... If some tea party supporter joked about this there would be hell to pay! Furthermore Bernard Shaw was a dedicated socialist just as the Nazi party was, & you got Nazi developers using Bernard Shaws exact words to describe the so called "humane gas!"
Alternately colluding with each other, and warring against each other, is a signature trait of totalitarians. They're treacherous. Indeed, the "second" victim, in your example, were the Soviet's own loyalists. Staliin sent them to Siberian death camps, where they died believing it was all some kind of mistake. Such Useful Idiots even wrote Stalin letters to that effect from their prison cells.
You all realize that when Shaw was making comments about a "humane gas", he was Doing A Thing, right? It was well known at the time that his comments were satirical a la "A Modest Proposal", though I'm sure Alex Jones or Glenn Beck (or whoever else) was too worked up to mention that
Then again, this is the youtube generation we're talking about. I fully expect to find videos condemning Jonathan Swift for advocating cannibalism in the near future.
@USERACCOUNT40001 Modest proposal gave obvious clues that it was satire. What clues does Shaw give? Do you also believe Mein Kampf was meant to be satire?
Hmmm... as proud leftist thinker, and currently an actor in one of Shaw's plays, I wont defend his views in regards to Hitler or social purging. I will however point out that ALL political groups have their really bad apples. And if he was being sarcastic, well, it was very bad taste on his part.
This isn't satire. Shaw was a eugenicist, plain and simple, and a rather extreme one at that. His belief in eugenics can't be ascribed to his leftist politics, however. Lots of prominent socialists of Shaw's day vehemently opposed the eugenics movement, Walter Lippmann and Clarence Darrow among them.
@MUFC127 he was irish and you have to be proud of him! this publication is toatally out of context and not at all worth of any intellectual debate! If you truely want to be involved with this discussion, and want to place your stand, read his works and air your views!
@thevisamaster Yeah, he was a founding member of the Fabian Society, a British Socialist movement who developed and advanced theories of Eugenics. Him and his like, the financial and political elite, are the cancer of this planet. He is a psychopath. There the very people the human family won their freedom off. The Aristocracy. Royalty. What did Prince Philip say, he wishes he could reincarnate as a virus and wipe out mankind. Evil little bastards. James Connolly was a TRUE Irishman not this pig
@MUFC127 Well I guess there would never be a time I could convert the masses to the truth... however yes, Connolly is indeed a true hero! 1916 what? I would have been shot meself if I differ in that opinion! So Cheers mate! Let us next concentrate on the RWC, shall we ;) so I say the Kiwis what say you?
If they are not fit to live, kill them in a decent human way. Is it any wonder that some of us are driven to prescribe the lethal chamber as the solution for the hard cases which are at present made the excuse for dragging all the other cases down to their level, and the only solution that will create a sense of full social responsibility in modern populations?" (George Bernard Shaw, Prefaces (London: Constable and Co., 1934), p. 296).
@Fonyod2008 Read between the lines mate! No one in their right mind would advocate such an idea¬!!!! SIGH!!! IT IS A SATIRE my friend!!! Just like Animal Farm! or johnatan Swift.
Good God, so Germans should be proud of Hitler, Russians proud of Stalin? As John T. Flynn wrote: "the line between fascism and Fabian socialism is very thin. Fabian socialism is the dream. Fascism is Fabian socialism plus the inevitable dictator." (The Road Ahead, John T. Flynn, 1950, p. 149.) [Source]
George Bernard Shaw advocated the most destructive combination of Marx's and Nietszche's ideas?
He was a 20th Century Evil, no better than the rest!
@Fonyod2008 I wholeheartedly disagree, Shaw IS a literary figure to be proud of!
And I am a JEW, so I know full well the implications of eugenics and what such ideas can allow...
But remember that eugenics were a popular idea, WIDESPREAD in Shaw's time--Dickens lampoons it in "A Christmas Carol" when Scrooge says death will jsut "decrease the surplus population," and before Dickens, Swift satirized this kind of thinking by suggesting babies be eaten in "A Modest Proposal."
@Fonyod2008 Do condemn George Washington because he owned slaves? Or Thomas Jefferson?
Most of us...no, in fact, we view them not just as heroes, but worthy of a giant sculpture on a mountain!
The same goes with Shaw...he had a bad idea, but we've all had poor ones, and he was just a product of his age (oh--he also NEVER ACTUALLY GASSED ANYONE, that puts him in front of Hitler and Stalin right there! And Hitler twisted Nietzsche's words, please actually READ his work before blasting him!)
@obiwanobiwan13 John Adams: "Every measure of prudence, therefore, ought to be assumed for the eventual total extirpation of slavery from the United States... I have, through my whole life, held the practice of slavery in... abhorence." Ben Franklin: "Slavery is... an atrocious debasement of human nature." Washington: "There is no man living who wishes more sincerely than I do, to see a plan adopted for the abolition of [slavery]."
@Fr33Gangsta3 If you read the book about benjamin franklin by walter isaacson you would realize his true reason for finding slavery so offence.Franklin didn't like slavery but he felt that blacks were in every facet racial inferior to whites. He wanted to send them back to Africa once slavery was abolished because he claimed he could not see them and whites living side by side. His main reason for disliking slavery --- he claimed it made white people lazy
@shithappens1818 Yeah, it would make whites lazy. Whites sit back while the blacks pick the cotton for free. That is lazy. And I don't blame him for not seeing that blacks and whites can't live together. There is still alot of racial tension today. While whites were taught that you should feel sorry for blacks, blacks were taught to mistrust them.
@Fr33Gangsta3 But the tension is being caused by Whom? In the next 10 years do you know how many biracial babies there are going to be? Its now hip or cool to have a child look exotic. I am not saying its wrong, to each his own. Whites are so focused on hating blacks, when they finally woke up they realize damn how did the hispanics get in (Arizona for example and other southern states)? Whites were taught sympathy towards blacks, which simply means pity the fools. They were not taught empathy.
@Fr33Gangsta3 Blacks were taught you fooled me once shame on you. You fooled me a second time shame on me.. Let me end it by saying the white race in America will be the minority in 20 years.
@shithappens1818 .........whites are not focused on hating blacks whatever that means. I don't know anyone who hates blacks and I live in Kentucky. That is pur propaganda. And no, not "pity the fools". It means let them have a chance, even more so than would be right. Only YOU say that crap about "pity the fools" "Blacks were taught you fooled me once shame on you. Fool me twice" In other words hate white people. They are taught black liberation theology. Socialist propaganda.
@obiwanobiwan13 Alexander Hamilton: "The laws of certain states... give an ownership in the service of negroes as personal property... But being men, by the laws of God and nature, they were capable of acquiring liberty-and when the captor in war... though fit to give them liberty, the gift was not only valid, but irrevocable." James Madison: "Great as the evil [of slavery] is, a dismemberment of the union would be worse."
@obiwanobiwan13 Alexander Hamilton: And it was said that Thomas Jefferson treated his slaves so well that they were really only slaves by classification alone. The founders feared that the southern states would seperate if they proposed legislation that would rid slavery from America, and the abolitionists who had slaves didn't release them because it would be condeming them to re-enslavement or death.
@obiwanobiwan13 Karl Marx called allot of other rival socialist groups and thinkers "dirty jews of negro blood". Here is a quote from Karl Marx actually advocating racial genocide: "The classes and the races, to weak to master the new conditions of life, must give way... They must perish in the revolutionary holocaust" -Marx. Peoples Paper. April 16 (1853 I think) just look it up, its true. all countries that were not capitalist at that time he considered the people "racial trash"
@Fr33Gangsta3 And the point of that 4-part rant was...?
I never said Washington wasn't against slavery, nor did I say that Americans were not agaisnt slavery, NOR did I bring in Karl Marx in any way, shape, or form.
I said that justn as we cannot blame Washington for holding to a convention of his time we now frown on, ie, slavery--and he DID have slaves--we likewise msut be understanding of Shaw's position on eugenics.
PLATO endorsed eugenics, as a product of HIS time, doesn't make HIM bad.
@obiwanobiwan13 You are right and wrong. Though you can't blame him so much for being that way, he did endorse it, and it's still wrong. So you can still blame him for being that way, HE bought into it, and nobody forced it onto him.
@obiwanobiwan13 Bad? Plato was unconscionable! For information about Socrates’ inhuman ambitions and his student Plato’s book eulogising Socrates’ ideal prototypical ‘fascist’ state, The Republic, adopted as the official doctrine of Adolf Hitler’s National Socialist (NAZI) Party, and on the saga of Socrates and Plato, the original traitors to Democracy, see "We the People and the Matter of Words," Essay freely downloadable from DemocracyDefined website material webpage
@AUSM92 "Either the press believed Shaw to be serious, and vilified him, or recognised the tongue-in-cheek nature of his lecture."---- Dan Stone 1910,I suggest you to read" Back to Methuselah" it was from this masterpiece that the intellectuals finally understood, and eventually presented him the nobel prize. It took some time back then for people to understand, when I finally figured it out, I felt like that joker in the comedy club who finally catch the punchline 30 seconds too late.
He is speaking with sarcastic HUMOUR...Perhaps not very funny ...but certainly NOT in support of Hitler...Only people who do not know his politics and writing could think that of my fellow countryman...George Bernard Shaw.
@deceiver123m excuse me Mr Uninformed Angry....I am Irish...and that is not British. I expect you have never read a word the man has written ...no nothing of his politics..his satire...etc...but why should I care...continue on as you are..it suits you no doubt...
@xyzllii Before making my angry comments i did take the time to learn about his background. I read his work back to methuselah which he said is his best. So, british commonwealth apologist, you should not support Shaw because 1. He is a communist, he belongs to the Fabian Socialist Society, which is a sickening group of globalists. 2. He displays his love for Eugenics by finishing his last play of the Back to methuselah series with a society where children are murdered if born with a disability.
@deceiver123m God ...you do get hot under the collar man...calm down. I am not the Bernard Shaw you defile so much...but.., the fact remains...HE WAS NOT PRO HITLER...whatever you like to think...it is as simple as that. We will agree to differ on the matter...
@xyzllii Well, if you wish you can argue he was not a fan of hitler. But we know hitler was a fan of communism. And we also know Shaw was a fan of communism. So, both in the same camp of murdering psychopats. Thats the point everyone wants to pretend is not true; well it is true and it will remain true until communism is eliminated.
@xyzllii and yes, we'll agree to disagree on many points. I am passionate in fighting the rich elite, and that includes the communist elites and their wacky Eugenics theories.
@xyzllii if you know about his politics, then you should know that socialists, in particular Social Darwinists like Shaw and his friends in the Fabian society, believe that they should start wars and create chaos, and that they are doing the world a massive favor of course. They strongly believe that it is the right thing for them to do those things, and pull the levers behind the scenes of world politics, because "Only the strongest survive", and in their view it includes the Human species .
There are no documents; nor substantial facts that support the theory that Hitler "said" that he was going to kill jews. NONE. Consequently, there are no forensic nor verifiable evidence that support the theory that millions died in gas chambers. Did Jews die during this era? Yes. Did 6 million die? Maybe, maybe not. Did HItler hate jews? Yes. Was he a filthy, inhumane nazi scum? Yes. But did he systematically kill millions of jews? Look up David Cole - a jewish revisionist. He'll tell you.
Bernard Shaw talked about a humane way to gas people and kill them 10 years before hitler did it, the Nazis learned from him. Edward Bernays the father of propagana felt much the same way, his book was found on Joseph Goebbels desk. GBS was a Fabian Socialist admittedly. So was Margaret Sanger. Both suportted Eugenics. There logo is a wolf in sheep clothing, deception. Propaganda style, just like the progressives thoughout history, including today.
@thevisamaster BS talked about a humane way to gas people 10 years before hitler, the Nazis learned from him. He was a Fabian Socialist admittedly. So was Margaret Sanger. Both suportted Eugenics. If you want to call it satire, he was tring to make how he felt light and acceptable. As he did in his writings. Propaganda style, just like the progressives thoughout history, including today.
Those of you calling this "satire" are either flat out liars or completely deluded. Shaw's position on eugenics was VERY clear as was his membership in the Fabian Society who advocated this sort of eugenic nonsense.
Go and read about him rather then the shills on this website.
@thegoodlocust "Either the press believed Shaw to be serious, and vilified him, or recognised the tongue-in-cheek nature of his lecture."---- Dan Stone 1910,I suggest you to read" Back to Methuselah" it was from this masterpiece that the intellectuals finally understood, and eventually presented him the nobel prize. It took some time back then for people to understand, when I finally figured it out, I felt like that joker in the comedy club who finally caught the punchline 30 seconds too late
@thevisamaster The genocidal left has always had defenders. That quote you have is either from another liar or an idiot.
The fact remains that advocating genocide at the "Eugenics Education Society" speaks volumes. It would be like someone going to a KKK rally and advocating the killing of all jews - and then some idiot defending the guy by saying he was just being sarcastic.
As I said, you people are either delusional or you are liars.
@thegoodlocust And as I said before in anyGBS class, there would alway be the classic pro and con debate... however, don't you think, after half a century, he has finally made his point, the very fact that we are actually arguing about this point isbthe very point he is driving the message through? he was advocating eugenics but the interpretatations are disasterous!! so, for us with the comfort of retrospect, he was trying to,in this clip,to mock the extremists!(EUGENICS IS F*****G RUBBISH!!!!)
knowing shaw and have read almost everything he had produced, this goes against his spirit. I think this is taken out of context, may be you need to show the whole complete clip.
Again, this appears to be satire. Charlie Chaplin pretended to be Hitler despite hating him, to Satire him. Swift wrote a piece saying we should solve the starvation of the poor by making them eat their own babies, and we can see simlar satire via Colbert and Stwart; it tends to be extreme; thats the point!
@badgeless I guess you are right mate... however come to think of it by invoking such adverse response I think Shaw has indeed passed on his message. He is a genius!!! Bravo good sir... Bravo!!!
He was into eugenics. And to support any kind of eugenics is to support the limit of freedoms and right to life: in my opinion, it's murder. No matter how "humane" the way he wanted them to die.
WoW! Just look at all those books behind this lady, she must be really smart and know a lot about history and everything she says must be true because it is unbiased, objective and carefully checked.

Hmmm... much like the system we have the U.S. now.

Scary video.

I'm pretty sure this was meant to be satire at the time. Since it doesn't really match up with today's satire, everyone assumes he was serious. He was mocking contemporary views on eugenics.
runningdrainwater 4 months ago
@runningdrainwater Incorrect. George Bernard Shaw was well known as a supporter of the eugenics movement at the time. Thus the statements make absolute sense within that context, and are NOT satire. At the very least hit up the wikipedia article on eugenics and you'll see him listed along-side the rest of the famous supporters. The wikipedia article on Shaw also discuses his efforts at synthesizing eugenics theory with his socialist beliefs.

Pure nonsens- there is no class-struggle in nazism and no racial genocide in Communism. Communism and Nazism are ideological enemies and in real life marxists have fought nazism all over the world, both in writing and in direct combats. It is ahistorical crap.

wilstrup1 3 months ago
@wilstrup1 you obviously have no idea what marxist communism is then. In his manifesto, he calls for class warfare. They are very very similar. They may not be exactly the same, but the differences are slight. If it is in fact "pure nonsense" as you say it is, then give me some real world examples that show the big differences. My belief is that you spout off the ideas given to you by your high school history books. History books are at most a basic outline of history.
dominic150 3 months ago
@dominic150 Until now you haven't certified your knowledge about what marxist communism is. I have taught for several years a.o. socialism, liberalism and communism with reference to reputable sources, so I am very much aware of what marxist communism is. With a teacher's degree and two university degrees and with journeys to both Eastern and Western Europe as well as contributing with articles about the subject matter, there is no way you can defame my knowledge about this. What is your excuse?
wilstrup1 3 months ago
@wilstrup1 again, the question stands. What are the major differences as shown by a real world example? I hold a masters degree, but there is no reason to bring up personal credentials if the facts speak for themselves.
dominic150 3 months ago
@dominic150 You claimed that I don't know anything about Communism - that is why I gave you my response in the way I gave it. Especially i noticed your perjorative and insulting manner "... that you spout off the ideas given to you by high school history books...". instead of using arguments which are well-researched. In other words: Nazi Germany killed thousands of people and so did the USSR. So this means that they both shared the same ideology? If so, there are babies in baby food.
wilstrup1 3 months ago
@wilstrup1 the ideology of the two regimes are far more similar than they are different. I have had this argument with people before; then, as now, i could not get an answer of the major real world differences between the two. Im not insulting you, i want you to use an original thought instead of the the same history book garbage that i see everyone spouting off. If they are ideological opposites, it should be easy to show some examples.

EmersonNietzsche 9 months ago
@thevisamaster
Shaw was still a eugenicist, just like his pals Hitler, Goebbels and Sanger.

@MUFC127 he was irish and you have to be proud of him! this publication is toatally out of context and not at all worth of any intellectual debate! If you truely want to be involved with this discussion, and want to place your stand, read his works and air your views!
thevisamaster 10 months ago
@thevisamaster Yeah, he was a founding member of the Fabian Society, a British Socialist movement who developed and advanced theories of Eugenics. Him and his like, the financial and political elite, are the cancer of this planet. He is a psychopath. There the very people the human family won their freedom off. The Aristocracy. Royalty. What did Prince Philip say, he wishes he could reincarnate as a virus and wipe out mankind. Evil little bastards. James Connolly was a TRUE Irishman not this pig
MUFC127 10 months ago

You try rreading/researching GBS!!

Proud of him?
Good God, so Germans should be proud of Hitler, Russians proud of Stalin? As John T. Flynn wrote: "the line between fascism and Fabian socialism is very thin. Fabian socialism is the dream. Fascism is Fabian socialism plus the inevitable dictator." (The Road Ahead, John T. Flynn, 1950, p. 149.) [Source]
George Bernard Shaw advocated the most destructive combination of Marx's and Nietszche's ideas?
He was a 20th Century Evil, no better than the rest!
Fonyod2008 10 months ago
@Fonyod2008 I wholeheartedly disagree, Shaw IS a literary figure to be proud of!
And I am a JEW, so I know full well the implications of eugenics and what such ideas can allow...
But remember that eugenics were a popular idea, WIDESPREAD in Shaw's time--Dickens lampoons it in "A Christmas Carol" when Scrooge says death will jsut "decrease the surplus population," and before Dickens, Swift satirized this kind of thinking by suggesting babies be eaten in "A Modest Proposal."

Fr33Gangsta3 9 months ago
@Fr33Gangsta3 If you read the book about benjamin franklin by walter isaacson you would realize his true reason for finding slavery so offence.Franklin didn't like slavery but he felt that blacks were in every facet racial inferior to whites. He wanted to send them back to Africa once slavery was abolished because he claimed he could not see them and whites living side by side. His main reason for disliking slavery --- he claimed it made white people lazy
shithappens1818 6 months ago
@shithappens1818 Yeah, it would make whites lazy. Whites sit back while the blacks pick the cotton for free. That is lazy. And I don't blame him for not seeing that blacks and whites can't live together. There is still alot of racial tension today. While whites were taught that you should feel sorry for blacks, blacks were taught to mistrust them.
Fr33Gangsta3 6 months ago
@Fr33Gangsta3 But the tension is being caused by Whom? In the next 10 years do you know how many biracial babies there are going to be? Its now hip or cool to have a child look exotic. I am not saying its wrong, to each his own. Whites are so focused on hating blacks, when they finally woke up they realize damn how did the hispanics get in (Arizona for example and other southern states)? Whites were taught sympathy towards blacks, which simply means pity the fools. They were not taught empathy.
shithappens1818 6 months ago
@Fr33Gangsta3 Blacks were taught you fooled me once shame on you. You fooled me a second time shame on me.. Let me end it by saying the white race in America will be the minority in 20 years.
shithappens1818 6 months ago

Fr33Gangsta3 9 months ago
@obiwanobiwan13 Alexander Hamilton: And it was said that Thomas Jefferson treated his slaves so well that they were really only slaves by classification alone. The founders feared that the southern states would seperate if they proposed legislation that would rid slavery from America, and the abolitionists who had slaves didn't release them because it would be condeming them to re-enslavement or death.
Fr33Gangsta3 9 months ago
@obiwanobiwan13 Karl Marx called allot of other rival socialist groups and thinkers "dirty jews of negro blood". Here is a quote from Karl Marx actually advocating racial genocide: "The classes and the races, to weak to master the new conditions of life, must give way... They must perish in the revolutionary holocaust" -Marx. Peoples Paper. April 16 (1853 I think) just look it up, its true. all countries that were not capitalist at that time he considered the people "racial trash"
Fr33Gangsta3 9 months ago
@Fr33Gangsta3 And the point of that 4-part rant was...?
I never said Washington wasn't against slavery, nor did I say that Americans were not agaisnt slavery, NOR did I bring in Karl Marx in any way, shape, or form.
I said that justn as we cannot blame Washington for holding to a convention of his time we now frown on, ie, slavery--and he DID have slaves--we likewise msut be understanding of Shaw's position on eugenics.
PLATO endorsed eugenics, as a product of HIS time, doesn't make HIM bad.
obiwanobiwan13 9 months ago
@obiwanobiwan13 You are right and wrong. Though you can't blame him so much for being that way, he did endorse it, and it's still wrong. So you can still blame him for being that way, HE bought into it, and nobody forced it onto him.

xyzllii 10 months ago
@xyzllii Before making my angry comments i did take the time to learn about his background. I read his work back to methuselah which he said is his best. So, british commonwealth apologist, you should not support Shaw because 1. He is a communist, he belongs to the Fabian Socialist Society, which is a sickening group of globalists. 2. He displays his love for Eugenics by finishing his last play of the Back to methuselah series with a society where children are murdered if born with a disability.
deceiver123m 10 months ago
@deceiver123m God ...you do get hot under the collar man...calm down. I am not the Bernard Shaw you defile so much...but.., the fact remains...HE WAS NOT PRO HITLER...whatever you like to think...it is as simple as that. We will agree to differ on the matter...
xyzllii 10 months ago
@xyzllii Well, if you wish you can argue he was not a fan of hitler. But we know hitler was a fan of communism. And we also know Shaw was a fan of communism. So, both in the same camp of murdering psychopats. Thats the point everyone wants to pretend is not true; well it is true and it will remain true until communism is eliminated.
deceiver123m 10 months ago
@xyzllii and yes, we'll agree to disagree on many points. I am passionate in fighting the rich elite, and that includes the communist elites and their wacky Eugenics theories.
deceiver123m 10 months ago

He'll tell you.
raela89 10 months ago

Those of you calling this "satire" are either flat out liars or completely deluded. Shaw's position on eugenics was VERY clear as was his membership in the Fabian Society who advocated this sort of eugenic nonsense.
Go and read about him rather then the shills on this website.

As I said, you people are either delusional or you are liars.
thegoodlocust 10 months ago
@thegoodlocust And as I said before in anyGBS class, there would alway be the classic pro and con debate... however, don't you think, after half a century, he has finally made his point, the very fact that we are actually arguing about this point isbthe very point he is driving the message through? he was advocating eugenics but the interpretatations are disasterous!! so, for us with the comfort of retrospect, he was trying to,in this clip,to mock the extremists!(EUGENICS IS F*****G RUBBISH!!!!)
