I used to surf that beach. In fact I came in second in a surf contest there in 1967 - longboard era. Still have the trophy's. I love Nantucket - there were some great party's and we could score some weed.
is this a reef or a beach break? most of the beach breaks here in central long island were closing out, and they were breaking easily a half mile out at low tide. you had to head out east or into western long island for waves. then again, new york and rhode island got the biggest waves form the storm, so it might've just been smaller in nantucket.
Grew up surfing the Cape and Islands...Now living near Kirra, QLD Australia. Yeah, the surf is more consistent blah blah blah...the fact of the matter is that those waves look fun. Deep down Im jealous that Im sitting here watching them not riding em. So cal is a big attitude...nothing more
Of course SoCal is better, but could you surf these types of waves in SoCal with only 10 other guys in the lineup? :-) BTW, there should be some videos showing up from Ruggles (RI) - it was consistently triple overhead.
Real surfers listen to the Beach Boys. All the time. Even if they won't admit it.

This is just a beach break. All sand on Nantucket. The waves on the next day were even bigger and I only saw one person attempt to surf at the peak.
