Very nice cover by a very beautiful and talented woman ... Lisa and Clint make a great couple ... and nice genuine people too ... Hey ... Neil Sadaka wrote a classic
The film marketed itself as updated nostalgia like GREASE but where GREASE had the soul of a 1959 drive-in teen comedy updated for 1978 audiences, WHERE THE BOYS ARE 84 had the soul of a 1984 teen sex comedy. Not that teen sex comedies weren't highly popular at the time, but this wasn't raunchy enough for that audience yet too raunchy for other audiences. Much depends on your opinion of "Hot Bod" contests that range from a hot dance by surprisingly sexy Lorna Luft to topless bikini babes.
I wish they would put this movie out on dvd. I have a copy on VHS which I recorded to dvd, but it's not the same. It also stars Russell Todd of Friday the 13th part II and Lorna Luft, Judy Garland's other daughter or Liza's sister. I also wish they would release this soundtrack on cd.
Granted, Connie Francis' version is STILL the original best; BUT, I've looked for this version for a long time. Lisa Hartman's 80's version of this classic is a welcomed pleasure to hear. And the sax at the end gives this version a sexy, yet romantic edge to it. Thanks for the post yoann1978.
@movieluver81 Thanks for the info. I was recently looking around on Amazon, and noticed that Where the Boys Are '84 is finally going to be released on DVD around August 23, 2011. I know that the movie isn't Oscar-worthy; but it's one of my guilty pleasures along with other early 80's beach flicks like: Spring Break, Hardbodies, and Fraternity Vacation (even though it's set in Palm Springs).
@movieluver81 Your welcome. The Alternative Distribution Alliance studio is releasing Where The Boys Are '84 on DVD on Tuesday, 08/23/2011. This studio is responsible for digging through movie vaults for films that "time and other studios" seem to have forgotten. It's good to know that I'm not alone in liking this gem of a "guilty pleasure".
@badabing003 Just got my copy, yesterday. The movie wasn't quite as good as I remembered, but it's still a fun watch, and I'm glad to finally have it on DVD. No regrets, here! : ) Wendy Schaal and Russell Todd looked great in the new interviews! I wish the other cast members had done an interview, also, but maybe they DO have regrets.. LOL!
@movieluver81 Got my copy about the same time that you did...LOL!! As I previously stated, it's a "guilty pleasure" movie of mine. I also enjoyed Wendy and Russell's interviews on the DVD...it was great to see them after all these years. As soon as "Hot Nights" (the opening number) got cranking, I was instantly transported back to the early 80's. It brought back memories of the other (then) raunchy 80's beach/college flicks..."Spring Break", "Fraternity Vacation", and "Hardbodies"...lol!!
Good movie although the original was a classic. I recall the days years ago of going to Florida on college spring breaks. Ft. Lauderdale was really swinging in those days.
Good that theres a DVD but where is The Soundtrack CD!!!
