  • Spectrum, the gameplay was usually faster and there were so many weird games for it like Fat Worm Blows a Sparky

  • i liked them both but the C64 was the better machine.

  • If I had to rank the 8 bit micros that had any sort of life span to them, best to worst:

    1: Commodore 64

    2: Atari 8 bit

    3: Amstrad

    4: Apple 2

    5: Sinclair Spectrum

(The Speccy would be lower but how many people had the Adam, Color Computer, or TI 99s?)

  • Oh for crying out loud! Let it go, who cares?

  • History Says Nothing About What Realy Happened In The 80s, It Was In The Uk The Zx Spectrum 48k V The Vic 20 The 64 Came Out Much Later And At A Vastly Expensive Price Compaired To The Spectrum. Moast People Got The Spectrum Because It Was Affordable And Offered More Memory Better Resolution And zx80 Backward Compatable With Code Of The zx80/81 And The Zx Spectrum 16k. The Spectrum Will Always B Better Because It Was The Peoples Computer And I Am Happy To Be Part Of It.

  • Turbo Esprit commodore LOL. WTF who would want to play that???

OK the commodore is really really messy with its graphics.

  • It's hardly fair to the C64 if most of the games you're including were ported over from the Spectrum, rather than developed on the C64. Thus the C64 screenshots here show little other than Spectrum games with no colour clash!

  • Zx Spectrum graphic resolution is far better, C64 hardly has any.

  • i am a c64 fan but i admit that the spectrum has lot of potentialty!

    however long live to 80's!!

  • for music c64 has no opponents !

  • Usually the Speccy has better resolutions and smoother animations. C64 has better colours and musics. If we put the two together, we got near an ATARI-ST! :)

  • GS on c64

    ´nuff said

  • i cant decide its like comparing apples to oranges. these machines were far more then just for video games.

  • Spectrum easily

  • Commodore absolutely rules.

    'nough said................

  • These comparitions could be done differently.

    1) Games should be compared with videos in action, not paused images.

    2) Games should be compared with the same screenshots, not different ones

    3) Sound is not at test here, since we only see images

    4) Gameplay is not also "noticed", which is a lot important for the tests!

    ;)

    Anyway. Nice topic!

  • This is terrific propaganda, even I started to think that the C64 might actually have been the better machine from these screenshots.

    However it wasn't !

    I was there!

The Speccy was the fresh snappy sharp hi def (lo Colour) originator.

and the C64 was the muddy and slurpy port monster,

gotta say!I'm here because I was feeling terribly nostalgic so I typed "c64" music as the commodore had the best!

The Specccy 128 (curse u Sugar) was just an ST turnip, the best ZX tunes were Amiga samples!!

  • Commodore, no color clash.

  • @Borin81 Yeah, no color clash, but lots of GIANT pixel monsters all across the screen! ;)

  • Actually, while most (if not all) intro screens look (much) better on C64, more games look better on ZX due to its higher resolution. Not to mention that actual gameplay on Spectrum is usually faster than on C64.

  • spectrum wins. always.

  • spectrum wins :)

  • @jesseowens Take your pills.

  • @richardmaudsley77 put on your straight jacket. it suits you well.

  • @jesseowens Will a leather jacket do? I mean its only one of those crappy plastic primark ones.

  • i owned a 64 back in my youth...so no suprise there then...

  • c64= epic win

  • c64= epic win

  • Where's the CPC?

  • On a graphical point of view, C64 wins most challenges.

How i remember the Renegade games and they look better on the Spectrum than with full color.

  • C64 wins in every category! =P

  • CPC wins ;)

  • The C64 blows the Speccy out of the water on most accounts.

  • No comptition, as much as I love the speccy, the c64 wins hand down lol :o)
