  • This game is so god damn hard on sega saturn! I can't get pass the prison level!

  • kinda makes you dizzy

  • in Saturn version can he look up

  • Did this game require the action replay for more RAM?

  • the strafe effect is called rollangle, btw this runs on the Slave Driver engine

  • wow, the lighting effects are pretty freakin sweet and the graphics are better than the PS1.

  • Comment removed

  • I have both the saturn and ps1 version of this game. overall both are great games, but the graphics, framerate, music, and controls are way better in the saturn's version. just my opinion

  • lobotomy's slave driver engine was so awesome back then, it made the saturn do things that silenced the ney sayers who still couldn't accept that the saturn was a more than capable 3d system, as the duke himself would say "damn i'm lookin' good"

  • @RallyDon82 nothing compared to the good old BUILD engine

  • Quake?

  • Wow,the movement looks so realistic,its so smoother...graphic are better then PS1.

Also when he moves and turns/rotate/looks right or left its like early style of HL1...

The alpha version of Half Life 1...

  • i like how they made it so you cant piss in the toilets... i also like how there isent music in the strip club not to mention the weapons not being responsive! saturn version sucked!

  • way better then the duke nukem on n64

but i like it on n64

  • this looks awesome :) its like polymer before polymer ;)

  • This might "look" the best but technically it fails compared to the ps1 version imo. Alot of moving objects in the scenery and more detailed scenery is cut in this version.. I sill like it though

  • blood would of been the best ps1 port ever.

  • The PSX is just a digital video recorder that also plays PS1 + PS2 games. It was designed to be a full entertainment package rather than being primarily a game console. Almost an early blueprint for PS3.

  • 1/5 star for the noob

    this game is the shit

  • Looks like you the person who made this video is playing on a Saturn emulator.

  • Opps I wrote harder... I meant hardware

  • lol

  • The musics really ambient and somber in this version compared to the PS1 and N64 ones.

  • I like how youtube mipmaps saturn and psx games. ha ha

  • you mean ps1?

PSX was a sony console released after ps2 and before ps3

  • ps1 'psone' was the small version of psx 'playstation' the gray box. You are incorrect

  • Sorry I'm not.

I'm game console collector and a game programmer, I know my info. Ps1 (the small version) is actually PS1 slim, the grey box is PS1, the PSX was a next gen console after the ps2 and before the ps3. It is a media convergent console with a tv tuner built in, HDD, video editor and video recording features.

  • Actually wait you, confused me now, It did say 'psone'on the box I got it in 1999, it never said ps slim anywhere in south africa thats just for the slim ps2 they said that, I suppose whatever the thing your talking about is correct right, but thats like saying megacd was next gen or the wonder mega or cdx. Which I suppose you can. Truly all game magazines I ever read referred to 'psx' as the old grey box cause they didn't talk about the thing you said. Perhaps 'psx' it was slang that caught on

  • The "psone" (a remodeled Playstation) was release AFTER the PS2, hence why they called it the PSone. "PSX" was the abbreviation used for the Playstaton by just about every single gaming mag in the US prior to the launch of the PS2.

  • "PSX was a Sony digital video recorder with fully integrated PlayStation and PlayStation 2 video game consoles. Since it was designed to be a general-function audiovisual device, it was marketed by the main Sony Corporation and was released only in Japan on December 13, 2003." Thats not next gen to me anyway. But 'Psx' was used in all I read. Thats how I know psx!, they never spoke of that thing hybrid thing ever!. So I still mean Psx!, EVEN THOUGH Your correct in what psx really is ;)

  • LOL glad to see you discovered the magical and excellent PSX.

The PSX yes was just a slang term for the original PS1. The PSX however was a next game console as it had its own games, its own unique graphics (think of graphics between ps2 and ps3)... having its own unique graphics had its own unique graphic accelerator.

I was only available in Japan and is a region free console. It's an excellent console.

  • Well thanks for the info. Japan is crazy. I have a red magic night rayearth gamegear, and you can feel the love that went into it. My other gamegears died form nothing or from just a single punch! when I got cross. My last black ones sounds gone now and has a creaky d- pad. But the RAY is deafeningly loud, smooth dpad, But what separates it really for me is that I headbutted it so hard years ago I went dizzy, It went all funny colored and just healed itself as the chanting ecco music played.

  • Lol I think you may just have anger issues...

Sega did bring out some dodgy consoles and harder, but dreamcast was definitely the best, and I still probably one of the best 6th generation consoles. Sega is still by far the BEST arcade company.

Unfortunately I never got to work on any PSX games due to them being developed in Japan :(

Hope your anger issues clear up :) Don't hurt the consoles :)

  • tomb raider, wasn't that devolped in the uk or most eidos type companys or just programmed?

I've only ever had a problem with gamegears, primal rage (ironically) and the last level of ecco. Very hard. You must play panza dragoon saga rpg, if you havent already. I disagree. Saturn was the best (personally!). But code veronica sonic adventure, shenmue and ecco blew me away!!! when I first got that machine back in the day. Amazing. But Saturn takes the victory with shining and panza dragoon RPG.

  • Oh! you said PSX and you ment PS'X', not playstation. Just remeber PS1 was not known as PS1 when it came out, the company was not like "lets call this ps'1'cause in 5/6 years were gonna make ps'2"'. I have no Idea how you don't know "psone" the little white playstation... and I don't care anymore actually. Has long as you get yourself a Neptune one day.

  • is this true?

does it run all ps2 and ps1 games and better than ps2?

  • my first version of this game was on saturn and for me its the best fps ever made.

the graphics in this game for the saturn version dont even have filter but it really look like it has some times, if it had filter on texturs it would looe better then the pc version.

  • i still have my saga saturn and I still have all the games for it..and it seems to me that I got myself hooked back onto this game :D

  • I have the game for pc with Eduke, thats probablly the only reason im getting it for 360, because of online.

  • How do you go UP and DOWN with the jetpack, in the Saturn version?

  • Yes, thats th thing that has puzzled people lots of times, all you have to do (I forget which order they go in) is keep your finger on the left strafe button, and you either press B or C and vice versa.

Plus, check out my Duke vids!

  • Looks better than the N64 Version, its the only version ive got of the game now.

  • Is it me or do the controls seem really wanky in this version?

  • @ItalianoLatino82 cause the PS1 had fuck all for ram

  • @ItalianoLatino82 alone the graphics but the music from PSX are the best

  • ONE of the best games ive ever played i love the boss in the stadium . Once youve killed you get to take a massive dump on his head whislt reading the newspaper *thumbs up* to the duke !

  • el mejor de la saturn junto con el sonic, duke nukem crack! el ROJOUUU mitico de los monstruos xD y cuando sacaba pasta a las putas y enseñaban las pechugas xD

  • Easily the best game in those days

  • its is still in my top ten list of games.

And when you get the high detail pack wich makes the models 3d...so very very cool.

  • i have this for my Saturn =D

i like this game to much, the graphics on the Saturn are better then the ps1 version.

  • I like the sound of the Chaingun in this port

  • Really cool vid!

  • no music in the streap-bar.... Less Duke voicies and phrases...... that's not good......

  • Still my favorite port. Great lighting effects. Not perfect, but the next best thing to the pc version, imo. The PS1 version had a horrid frame rate, and the 64 was horribly censored (although still awsome for all the added content and differences). The PS1 version is definately the weakest out of the three. The Saturn version was definately the best looking version (before the High Res Pack for the pc, which I contributed to)

  • You shoot snooker balls, that's funny.

  • I played this game on PC for years.

  • i had it on saturn

damn i played this a long time ago

    i was like 6 / 7 years old , now im 16

    but good game

  • this game pwned. funny when you shot the stipper lol

  • i liked the PC version waaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyy better than the console versions because it had a different feel to it....a warm, fuzzy feeling mixed with heavy metal and gore.

  • While I think the N64 version looked the best, introducing anti-aliasing and polygons, as well as new weapons to the game, the Saturn's version running on the Powerslave engine looks really, really posh with the lightmaps, dynamic lights (like the rocket launcher) and the animated text. I wish I had the opportunity to get my hands on it, but alas...

  • i had this 4 pc awesome game

  • The speed of Duke on the PSX and PC is what I relish. The speed of this would just downright bug me, but the music and effects are nice.

  • i had the saturn version of it,saturn was great in graphics but diifficult to program games on it

  • Woah, this looks even better than duke nukem 64 which is pretty much the same game only for N64.

  • Quake is not the same as Duke Nukem, christ.

  • very true Duke Nukem is more about being an Action Hero while Quake has a more dark and Gothic theme.

  • duke make's the best sound FX. OOH UGH DAMNNNN!!!

  • Does any1 know how to get JUST Duke nukem 3d full version Free? if so just replay me

  • I got it for ya

  • jajaja it's faster in Saturn than Play Station!!

  • Because it's a way better port. No worth comparing the genius talent at Lobotomy Software (developers of Sega Saturn version) with the nerds that made the PS1 version.

  • There was no PS1 port of the first Quake and therefore no comparison.

  • There was an attemp of porting the first Quake to the PS1 by Lobotomy Software it seems. A programmer once told they managed to have running code on the console. But they never could find a publisher for this port, apparently.

  • How do i get this?

  • eBay is probably your best bet for Saturn games, at least if you're in the States.

  • i really love this game..!! i was always playing with my friend in coperative so fun..!!! :)

  • lol this is like slow motion :)

  • thats lvl 2 in l.a i downloaded this demo on my pc it took so long to beat cause i coulnt get it the window on the side of the shop

  • shh

  • Looks very interesting. I've always considered getting a Saturn just for this port but after hearing that lots of the levels were cut in half and some crappy exclusive level called "Urea 51" I just ignored it. Might check it out again.

  • Area 51 is on the 64 version as well and is SWEET!

  • Area 51 can accessed from Pigsty in the Atomic Edition.

  • Yeah, but Urea 51 (that U is not a typo) is one exclusive to the Saturn, at least so I have heard.

  • I see. I've never player Sega Saturn, but I want to try it at least with an emulator.

  • That's the Duke Nukem 3D port. The Quake is one is pretty damn accurate.

  • I have this on the Saturn too. It didn't take me long to master the controls. I can aim anywhere no sweat.

  • The Sega Saturn is leet ^.^

I still want this one in my collection.

  • The Saturn version is the only who get lighting effect for explosion and gunshots.

  • with a tradeoff of level size, movement speed and as well as functionality, lack of scripting and level bareness...

  • Level size is acceptable considering the specs Quake needed at the time of it's release and how consoles were underpowered in comparison.

The speed is about the same except for enemy backpack drops, besides Quake never had a lot of scripting and fully interactive environments in the first place. This is better than the Duke3D port by far and is pretty darn accurate.

The underwater lighting is really really impressive as well as the light sourcing on top of it.

  • Nice music...

  • The alleyways are so smaller than the pc version.

  • That shotgun is better then the N64 version

  • estos de lobotomy eran unos genios la mejor version del duke, incluso mejor que la de pc

  • At least sega didnt turn the pornclubs into gunshops like wussy-ass Nintendo did.

  • Yeah to bad Nintendo did that. That game look better on there.

  • music rocks

  • you dont even trarget and can kill them thats a advantage

  • he are playing the most dificult mode?

  • this is the best console port of DN3D, of course has nothing to do with pc version but still holds it's own.

  • that camera-leaning a little on the side when you are running a curve is only on the sega-saturn, right? i never noticed that on the PC

  • The side strafe leaning? Yeah, I was an avid PC duke player and noticed that on this port. Its def not like that on PC.

  • For some reason, that looked painful and difficult to play...but it's interesting to a see a rarer port of Duke3D.

  • You should try researching the one made by Tec Toy for the Sega Mega Drive, and only released in Brazil. 3DRealms claims it's not legal too!

  • i have this game for the saturn it is very fun and badass and i can takeout anyone online

  • Nope, that's all I have. Sorry.

  • thnx for this

Any more vids of Quake on Saturn?

    thnx again
