Brilliant version of a classic song, yes I like EWF's however Art Webb with Twatha Agee's was also a great version. Dionne Warwick's live version is also great and Carmen McRae's is different yet very potent due the it's arrangement. Najee's instrumental is also worth a listen but for pure summer day funkiness Hummingbird and Creative Force win it for me. I wonder what Patti Austin could do with this song?
Earth Wind & Fire's version is not the original. The song was written by Skip Scarborough and first recorded by a group called Creative Source in 1973. In 1975,EWF 's Maurice White drastically changed the arrangement. This version for the most part, uses EWF's take but also includes elements of the original Creative Source version too. Hummingbird was a jazz band similar to the Crusaders.
i love earth wind and fire but when i heard this, on gta i fell in love with it,you can ride town this in the afternoon windows down 70 degree weather.oh yeah carmen mcrae also blows this one away as well as jimmy smith version .
i enjoy this version but i still would have to side with the ewf version if i had to pick only one version to listen to. plus lets remember hummingbird had something to emulate and make changes to whereas ewf was the original. this is a good remake for sure but remakes always have a potential edge because they have something to work off of
The groov-o-meter on this track is in the red. Earth Wind and Fire are a great great band, but their version of this track isn't nearly as moving (in my opinion! Yours might be different and that's fine too).
This track literally has the power to change my outlook on a day or life in general.
I used to play this song with a band back in the late 70's. As the keyboardist, I absolutely loved playing this song! Back in those days I used a Fender Rhodes and a Minimoog. I also dialed up a pretty convincing flute sound on the Minimoog to play over the top of the second verse. Of course the EWF version is also great but since we didn't have horns, this version was a lot easier for us to cover and the crowd always loved it.
I totally disagree, this version is miles better than the earth wind and fire version, this sounds more rare, and the vocals are phenomenal....wicked tune!
Two cents: As far as the vocals and just the smoothness of the track, I well prefer Earth, Wind & Fire's version. But I'll take all the solos in this cut. Especially the moog solo. That's one thing the EW&F version doesn't have.
brainysnaeha - sorry, have to disagree. EWF did some great stuff, but me personally, I prefer this version. It's grittier and more real. Don't get me wrong, their version is great...
Like Arsenal said (nice team by the way ;o) that solo don't half rip into you when you're wasted
I believe this is a cover version re-produced from the band Earth, Wind & Fire; who originally composed this beautiful tune; "Can't Hide Love", however these people can really blend that pure funky melody! I love it..
Being a Jeff Beck fan, I've got to get this album - still got Bob Tench, Clive Chaman and Max Middleton from the 2nd Jeff Beck Group but without Jeff Beck and Cozy Powell. Bernard Purdie was also playing drums for Beck at this time, and Max Middleton played on Beck's Blow By Blow and Wired; "Led Boots" was an instrumental on Wired
I had the same expierience as u after my gta4 broke, damn xbox, i was 4ced to search but i feel the high guitar pitch is suposed 2 resemble a humingbird singing
I've been listening to this over and over since yesterday. I just realized that they actually COMBINED elements of EWF's version and Creative Source's ORIGINAL version. Overall this version is based on EWF's version, but on the chorus these guys go with Creative Source's vocal and rhythm arrangements. So THIS song, represents the best of both versions and Hummingbird's own GREAT embellishments.
Wow...I'd never heard this before and I consider myself a funk/soul aficionad, but my brother came home with GTA IV over the weekend. Man, that series has turned me on to some GREAT music over the years. THIS is the lates. As much as I love EWF, this guys actually improved on this song. Never mind that the guitarist is laying down on hell of an Al Mckay-esque piece of work. EWFs version is to sparse instrtumentally speaking; this actually sounds what you would expect more from EWF.
Yeah, this is THE version for me, its wooing the laydees potential must not be underestimated, it hits a spot earth, wind and fire's version doesnt seem to hit.
i swear i shoulda been born in the 70's!!!!!!!

What i don't like about Hummingbird is that it sound so 70s.
While EWF original sound timeless.

SImply put EWF original is more of a soul.
And hummingbird version is more of a funk.
EWF also got some moog and keyboard from larry dunn but that album is all about vocals perfection
(Studio tracks part not live concert part)

back in college, I used to have this song play for me as my alarm for waking me up on the weekends, when I didn't have anywhere to be.
the first 30 seconds of the beat wake me up, then for the next 2 minutes I pack a bowl, as soon as that keyboard solo hits @ 2:24 I'd just blaze.
