  • . To see the idea u need a clear bright spirit (mind)cand nonbeliverers( sceptical scientista) are covered by metaphysical"veil" mensioned in Bible and Quran, so those people are fogged by darkness and cannot perceive on the spiritual level. They are isolated from the universe, blind and deaf....from SEEING THE TRUTH. And seeing is believing. . ...

  • @fourplusseven "The one thing you get from every 'skeptic' (=debunker) is that they are more intelligent than the people they are debunking."

    I disagree. Just because ben stein "debunks" evolution doesnt mean he is smart. And just because person A is smarter than B, doesn't mean A is right.

    The only thing that matters is what is scientifically proven or at least more probable. I dont care if Radin has character if he delivers nothing solid in 9 minutes talking. Its all opinion, nothing more.

  • minor criticism of Dean here: he seems to suggest that schizophrenia involves personality splits, but that is *false*

    It's possible for somebody to have schizophrenia and personality splits at the same time (just as somebody can have allergies and depression at the same time), but they are separate conditions.

    Etymologically, they are the same (schizophrenia literally means "split mind"), but the label "schizophrenia" is used differently by modern psychiatry.

  • Come on guys. Dean Radin is NOT saying that psi effects are real merely because smart people think so. That would be ridiculous.

    Instead, Dean is rebutting a commonly-held belief that only ignorant people believe in psi phenomena. But Dean has real arguments favoring the existence of those phenomena, and anybody familiar with his work would know that. This video is a brief clip out of a longer interview.

  • @MetaphysicsAddict

    People who believe in psi phenomena ARE ignorant. You can research it ... no problem. But if you BELIEVE in it (which means accepting it as true without knowing) you are ignorant, because you dont care about if it's true or not.

    believe = ignorance

    research = tolerance

    and that "tolerance" also includes accepting the possibility that you will not find anything conclusive to demonstrate that it really exists.

  • @Samurailord Out of curiosity, how much data have you read?

  • @MetaphysicsAddict

    I think you didn't get my point, as this question has nothing to do with my comment.

    If there is solid data for or against psi phenomena has nothing to do with the distinction between believing and knowing. And if i have read none or all of it has nothing to do with the statement either.

  • @Samurailord I got your point, but did not have time or desire to discuss the nuances with you - defining psi terms, defining "belief", and discussing whether people are ever justified in inferring psi based on their own experiences. So I was just curious if you had read any of the data - e.g. the speaker in this video has published extensively on experimental research into psi. Anyway, Radin's point in this clip was that being educated does not reduce the likelihood of "believing in" psi...

  • @Samurailord P.S. The reason Radin made that point is because some (not all) skeptics say things along the lines of, "If only these people would acquire more education into science, then they would stop interpreting certain experiences as being psychic". Radin is saying that such education does not have that effect (i.e. it does not prevent people from interpreting certain experiences as psychic).... which of course does not prove that psi effects are real, and nobody claimed otherwise.

  • @Samurailord "tolerance" also means that "skeptics" like you should admit that they might be wrong. Have you read the 1000+ pages on Piper by the (often ultra-skeptical) SPR investigators (e.g. the "kakie sittings")? Have you read the EEG and fMRI correlation studies by Radin, Standish, and others? Have you read the 2010 Ganzfeld analysis by Tressoldi et al *and* their subsequent reply to Hyman's criticisms? Have you read the critiques of Milton and Wisemans "failed" Ganzfeld? Etc etc etc etc

  • @Samurailord Moreover, the only point that Radin is making in this particular video is that "belief in" psi and being open to psi are *not* correlated with lack of education, which is what some skeptics claim or insinuate. In other videos (as well as in many peer reviewed papers) Radin offers evidence for psi effects. Radin is *not* claiming that psi effects are real just because educated people are more likely to believe in/accept them.

  • I think the first step into gaining respect from more mainstream scientists, is to produce results that are *self-evident* in psi phenomena. Otherwise, you'd only be building an "invisible college" of insignificant results.

  • Ad populum; the number of people who believe something (or don't) proves nothing.
