actually, this is Youssef Chahine and not Egyptian cinema. Chahine was an exceptional director and is not the norm in Egyptian cinema. btw, the movie was filmed in Syria, Lebanon and Egypt. without the help of Syria and Lebanon, this movie wouldn't have been as beautiful as it is.

Egypt has none of that and Chahine couldn't have made such a beautiful movie had he filmed it in Egypt. BTW, my response was to those who refuse to recognize Chahine as an Arab filmmaker and insist that he's Egyptian as if his life experience and talent was never influenced by the fact that he's Arab!
