  • Every time I hear this song I'm reminded of my first real teenage crush whose name was Mandy but the object of my crush didn't feel the same way. :( Still this remains my favourite song by 10cc, except maybe Rubber Bullets.

  • I've gotta agree, next to ELO, 10 cc are severely underrated aren't they?

At the age of 43, I'm kinda kicking myself for not listening to them more.

Their songs evoke forgotten radio memories. Bittersweet like.

  • bloody masterpiece

  • i used to listen to this when i was 8 years old :). still sounds great today..brilliant music...thanks for posting...oh and if your wondering im 41 now. :)

  • Band of the 70's for me

  • I was fortunate enough to see them play live before the weekend of the SUNDERLAND INTERNATIONAL AIR SHOW and they played ALL their hits AND more, although it ISNT the original line up,, WOW,, ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT,, sound quality was magnificent, my friends and I are STILL talking about it (6 month on),, SHEER CLASS,, P.S. if you EVER get a chance to see 10cc,,,, DONT waste it,,

  • I was looking for a tab of this song and discovered this guy's amazing site. Lots of 10cc I haven't found elsewhere. These sound pretty accurate to my ear... Google "gartfrets" to get the site, then navigate to "partnerships a-j".

  • For 4 years, from 1972-76, 10cc were at the top of their game. It is hard to describe how sophisticated the four were as songwriters. The melodies and harmonies were exquisite; the lyrics were intelligent, funny, ironic and poignant. (How do you describe a plane-crash in two lines? "The world was spinning like a ball / And then it wasn't there at all." ) That these songs are as fresh today as they were in the 70s illustrates how they were light-years ahead of anything that was happening then.

  • Great song and band especially as my name is mandy, my dad used to listen to these over and over again

  • If it wasn't for my dad I wouldn't be listening to such a classic song :-)

  • @mrmason68 Hey ur dad has great taste!!!!!

  • how dare those critics underrate this band and album?

  • A great song from a great album.

  • What a fantastic vocals, words and music,10cc,a band i will listen to for ever and ever,AMAZING!!!!

  • Ferris B's Day Off @ 2:40 and the album cover has that movie's feel. John Hughes had to have this album at Harvard.

  • Thanx for posting this song. This is one of the best and most underrated prog rock songs of all time. I love the harmonies, the entire structure. It should have gotten heavy rotation here on American album rock stations.

  • @george1976ist I don't think so they where the top!

  • Clever pop as always, fantastic single, talented band!!!!

  • My mom got this album when Star Wars came out, and after going to the theater countless times, and playing the piss out of How Dare You, they meshed together so one reminds me of the other

  • classic guitars drums words you can understand brilliant

  • this is clearly all about mdma... its brilliant! love 10cc!

  • nice

  • This song is so damn underrated

  • @BlackMagnumFilms so damn right

  • wore the grooves outta this disc. this tune is so beatley so mccartneyish vocals. this is clever pop rock...nothing like it today...oooh the strumming interlude and the devastating lead solo.....puff puff

  • and a great wonderful song . I will always love you you 10cc

  • One of the best yet most underated albums of all time

  • Ordinary beginning but what a finale

  • Just a fantastic mysterious song with a brilliant guitar break. This has so many memories for me. I listened to the How Dare You album all the way through the hot Summer of 1976 and was absolutely gutted when I heard that Godley and Creme had left the band.

  • What a great free plug for British Airways--(BOAC) as was. I remember that terrific Poster of theirs--'I'm Mandy-Fly me' of course there were other variations of that plea--by the great British Public. This was a world wide hit--so both parties were happy--I bet rival airlines weren't.

  • Love the opening. Sounds exactly like those crappy headsets Delta hands out....

  • Not only the best middle 8 guitar solo, but the best twelfth and three quarter(ish) after it.

  • Just brill!!

  • rw

  • "The world was spinning like a ball, and then it wasn't there at all" - Ezekial meets the UFO's?

  • still some very pretty music....i miss really good music !

  • Prog pop. Brilliant!

  • im mandy ...fly me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • A few months ago at work, a few of us were discussing 70s music and when we got onto the subject of 10cc we all agreed that this was our favourite track which suprised me because it's not their best known.

  • one of the greatest etc etc. ever written.....

  • I LOVE THIS SONG!......want to know some juicy gossip about 10cc that they dare not print in the magazines.....go to "hey st peter gnowangerups70s" and read my 3 comments. regards.

  • GREAT STUFF

  • my favorite 10cc album.

  • Listening to this beautiful music makes me my life goes by in a flash with all the memories running wild....

  • 2 people cannot fly....

  • @george1976ist Exactly my thoughts too!

  • If we only had C.D. you would see all four pains. The couple one the photo, on the bottom, frame of the pain. Are the same one's in the Red Car in the upper frame. The bcke 2 frames will show them hidden Thanks E.C. and T.B.

  • @birdinxxx Also in the inside of the album cover..It showed the woman who's crying...possibly having taken an OD and an ambulance outside the window

The back cover showed them outside a phone box waiting to make a call with what I always believed was a man making a dirty phonecall..He had a sneer on his face lol.

    My favourite 10cc album too

  • @george1976ist Damn Straight! The best of the best

  • I remember this was number one spring of 1976 - shortly before my family moved back to the states. I couldn't listen to it enough. Haunting, beautiful. Thank God for great old gems like these resurfacing as mp3s.

  • Best Album..still listen now after 20yrs

  • the guys did all there recording at strawberry studios in stockport.being a manchester group

  • 2:46 .......... smokinnnnnnnnnnnnn

  • Really a very great song with much variety in it, it just wont bore you, i can listnen this 24/7 , the best song of 10cc, i also like dreadlock holiday holiday , but this song has something more, its like an exciting movie that is turned into music, a complete masterpiece :D

  • @H1mself100 Can you imagine a song like this being a major hit today??

  • @candelise No they dont make that great music nowadays :( everyone is "spoiled" with commercial crap

  • My first true love was called Amanda & we used to play this while together, happy days!

  • Back in the day.......

Bands could play the things they held.

These guys could make them sing.

    .....back in the day......

  • these guys were the kings of slick production, way ahead of their time. Just listen to where that beat is in the mix, so unconventional.. awesome band

  • One of the most Underrated bands of the 70s. this band is on my top 10 Harmony bands of all time. Just Fabulous

  • @SEVFEST Great Choice, just to know, what other bands are on your top 10?

My choices would be, in any order:

10cc, Queen, The Beatles, Supertramp, Alan Parsons Project, Pink Floyd, Focus, and then I would have to think other 3 more bands.

  • What about Santana, Beach Boys. And any motown from the 70's

  • @Jibkopatha ,,,, In no particular order my top 10 harmony acts are The Beatles, Bee Gees, 10cc, The Everly Brothers, Pink Floyd, Queen, The Moody Blues, Crosby Stills & Nash, The Beach Boys, The Temptations

leaving it at 10 made me leave off a number of Top class doo wop acts and motown artists and let us not forget Simon & Garfunkel, The Byrds, & another of yours The Alan Parsons Project.

  • art for art's sake,money for god's sake!

  • I've been in the States so long i forgot all about this song!! Brilliant memories!!!

  • The first girl I fell in love with when I had raging hormones was named Mandy. It wasn't reciprocal but this song always reminds me of her. I remember this song was a commercial for British Airways.

  • @milesthered Same as mate only my girlfreind was called Amanda, oh to wind the clock back! cheers.

  • Do you know something, i just discovered 10cc again after buying all their albums in the 70s and this year have seen them twice on the uk tour and guess what, they were brilliant. Go see them if you get a chance.

  • What a beautiful and elaborate tune. Never gets old.

  • Awesome music they dont make em like this anymore unfortunately. Its all shite now.

  • I don't think anyone can create music like 10cc, they are pretty damn unique!

  • brilliant band

  • why dont these so called pub bands try n play this,. ,.tell you what no chance ITS MUSIC IS TO HARD N TO CLEVER FOR ORDINARY PUB BANDS,. rant over lol

  • Music was a lot more interesting back then, it holds my attention more than modern music. You never knew where the next musical bar would take you. I wouldn't say I knew a lot of their music back then apart from the obvious but listening nowadays its an enjoyable musical journey as there is so much back catalogue to enjoy and discover.

  • it reminds me of 1976, making model aircraft....if i smell Humbrol paint and hear this, I am taken way back (or maybe it was sniffing the modelling glue)

  • @jagdpanther1944

oh, i know the feeling.... i had lots of matchbox modelkits

youth is over before you know it

  • what a song reminds me of long hot 70s summers

  • Many songs are called great but not many need to be called great!! this is one. Simon Cowell this is a no 1 xx

  • a great ghost story

  • truly inspired an absolute pop masterpiece, probably their finest hour

  • Awesome track always reminds me of my dad. He was like 10 CC immortal

  • I bought tjis album and went to see them about 1975 at the Glasgow Apollo.

Yes I am 55 now but shit so are they ha ha ha.

Good luck to anyone who finds this track.

  • Crap day for whitevanwoman, truck broke down on the A42 (again); then got in & surprise surprise found out from boyfriend he had got tickets for 10cc concert soon, so played this track 5 times and life seems a whole lot better now, fantastic, won't need quite such a big whisky after all!!

  • @lbertrand11

Ah...I see you walk on water......it seems the sharks are coming for me.

    Mandy?

  • @Bra23we12

Walk on water, yes, I try! Sink or swim seems to be the better analogy of life. But who cares with music like this to keep us all floating with our heads above. Managed to avoid the sharks so far. Take care out there.

  • 10cc was named after the typical of amount of sperm produced on climax

  • Simply superb...from intro...to finish...masterpiece...timeless!!!!

  • I love this song so much it makes me cum.

  • Thanks so much for posting. Beautiful.

  • where was i this whole time? I'm blown away. Fucking Radios. SMH

  • De mevrouw die mij op 19 november 2010

voor het luttele bedrag van 59,95 een jas

verkocht van het merk LIFE-LINE, heette

    volgens de kassabon: Mandy.

    Vandaar.

  • THE best pop song ever made.

  • I absolutely loved this song when I was about 11 or 12 (back in 1983 or so) and hearing it now is amazing, it is still the most fantastic track.

  • From the underrated masterpiece CD "How Dare You'... One of my top 5 favs of 10cc. Genius. In 1976 I helped my older brother paint a high detailed ceiling in an old house from the 1800s, and we played this album over and over again...laughing everytime in this song it says 'the sharks are coming for me'.. God... they were so good.

  • my dad loved it when he was growing up and still does now !!!!!

  • Great stuff!!! Saw them live on no less than four occasions in the 70s including the "How Dare You" tour in '76'.

To youngsters just discovering music from this era, I envy you, as there's alot of high quality music to discover, enjoy!!!!!!

  • @srober5766 I am so jealous. I saw them once in the 70s and always wish it had been more

  • excellent mindwarp.

  • Pure gold from the lads..

  • Omigosh, I searched for the lyrics and got Miley Cyrus. I'm just asking, what the HECK?

  • as a 70's child i grew up listening to this....i am blessed!!

  • i saw ten cc live in 1973 at the hostel in hereford when i was in the army and they blew me away with the way they held an audience and there music was and still is sensational

  • my fave 10cc song. based on the silly ad campaign with airline stewardesses saying, "I'm Mandy/Cindy, fly me", which was seen as very sexually provocative at the time..

  • @minimeowly And another theory, Mandy relates to Mandrax, an illicit drug of the 70s , a "barb" and it relates a "bad trip" , with the references to "Rolling stones" being there to give you a hint. He met his Mandy , started to take his trip, he was flying (high) then he was coming down (crashed) he felt she (Mandy) was coming to help. Did he have another ? Was "Mandy" as nice to see ast that point as the girl from Dr No? Not my theory but having been around at the time it could be.

  • @GiveMeThaGreenLight I had the luck to be born in 62, so this was part of the soundtrack to my teenage years. It's just that I seem to have forgotten to grow up!

  • @GiveMeThaGreenLight I did. And i love your comment.

  • @GiveMeThaGreenLight

I grew up to this & 70's stuff... Lucky me eh ? :-)

  • The 70's abs proves that A complicated songs can be created , and still remains POP by definition !

  • A cracker, I've still got the LP on vinyl
