You know, discounting the one obviously illegal catapulted head stomp, I think this vid is a very good demonstration of how much safer MMA is than boxing. Even the knockouts that looked rabid and crazed here get stopped within 4 strikes of the loser going limp. Look up the 10 Most Brutal of boxing and you'll be horrified. When striking options are limited to punches, and you condition fighters to take so many, and they expect endurance from one another, they don't seem to know when to stop.

Check out the early UFC's. There were a couple of professional boxers who fought, but it was pretty boring since they just got taken to the ground and couldn't do much. I think it would be the same today. What would be interesting is if the MMA guys were forced to remain standing. I think a UFC fighter would still wreck a boxer though.

Boxers train only 4 punches, UFC fighters train boxing, elbows, knees, all kinds of kicks, and they train for the clinch. You're insane if you think that someone who does not train for all that could ever hope to beat someone who does. Yes I have watched professional boxing. There are just too many rules in boxing for boxers to realistically compete in a no-holds-barred fight. Also, if you have no idea how to use OR defend from elbows, knees, any type of kicks, or are use to hugging the other person instead of actually engaging them in the clinch, you will not win. Chuck Liddell would be way too versatile a striker for someone like Mike Tyson who uses only 4 strikes. It would not be a competition, it would be a massacre.

Among other things. I think even if they weren't allowed to go to the ground a UFC fighter would easily beat a professional boxer. There's just too much of a variety of strikes and techniques for the boxer to defend against that he is not use to. Just adding in kicks completely takes a boxer out of his comfort zone since he would then have to stand much further back and would not be familiar with the range difference.
