he's strumming above the nut of the guitar, (up by tuning pegs).. u need a decent amount of distortion and most importantantly, a strat or tele headstock. this WILL NOT work with a gibson or epi

He uses a regular OD pedal. For the havier parts on other songs a FUZZ pedal. But about your comment on Knights of Cydonia... there's not much being tapped there does it?
