Best way to deep fry a turkey:

1. Use peanut oil.

2. Find a pot big enough for the turkey and the oil.

3. DO NOT FRY A FROZEN TURKEY

4. Let the turkey thaw two days before cooking

5. Pat dry turkey with paper towels. Try to dry up the turkey as best as you can, outside and inside the cavity as well.

6. CAREFULLY lower turkey into the pot. Keep an eye on the oil level. If it starts rising too fast, pull the turkey out immediately and wait for the oil to settle. Dry and try again.

At the point the water was applied it was no longer just a grease fire but a room and contents fire. Applying water extinguished the burning type A combustibles and thus significantly cooled the room and stopped the spread of fire. The remaining grease fire could then be put out using various agents . First you contain the fire and protect exposures. Then extinguish. I did it for 30 years, I know from what I speak.

why not just "bake" the turkey then frying it this way which is quite dangerous and hazardous at the same time i think turkey fryers are for those who are quite familiar to such level of cooking and frying and such type of cooking is in their expertise and none other should try something this dangerous at all !

40 years ago i saw a large building fire that was just about out. then the firemen at the top of a hook and ladder decided to finnish it off. they turned the hose on full blast and about one second after the water hit the burning coals in the middle of the building the largest fire ball I had ever seen formed from this and the firemen at the top of the ladder started screaming and running down and there coats were smoking when they got down. that was water burning .an amaizing thing to see

@TheDJVAQ See also "chip pan fire". Water in grease causes the grease/oil to splatter or aerosol, forming the basic carburetion necessary to support an insanely large fire. When used with an open-flame burner, such as propane, the result is a huge ball of fire. Now, the turkey is still cooking, but you need to a) put out the oil and b) add more oil and hope that the burnt oil won't taint the taste of the turkey.
