and how do you get the stencil soo clean with no extra smudges or dots coming out the paper? Like I use acrylic paint, ( I know stupid, but I cant spray paint at the moment because its winter, ) and yeah... It comes a lil messy. A lil help pleasE?
spray paint comes out in thinner coats than acrylics. try dabbing the paint on. if that doesnt work cut your stencils out of thicker paper. i prefer cardstock but have gone with printer paper a few times. and kanye sounds like a good idea. dont be suprised if you see him in a video one day.
Cool vid, cool painting! It was fun to watch! Ive never watched any stenciling vids. And thanks for the heads up that Armstrong is an artist to avoid when uploading my records....(as far as copyright).
oh yeah i forgot to ask you, is there a cheap photoshop program that i can get? my point is im having trouble making out different layers so i need to find some type of way to seperate all of my layers. thanks man for any info.
adhesive spray is good on everything, just make sure it's temporary adhesive. And any program that lets you edit brightness and contrast can be used to make a stencil. look up "how to stencil a shirt" from ThreadHeads.
can you use an adhesive spray on the back of transparencies stencils just to hold down some of the thinner pieces or would that leave a residue on canvas?
I paint on canvas (sometimes styrofoam boards), this painting i just used printer paper for my stencil but that also varies with each project(sometimes poster board or transparencies). And i eat sleep and breathe Photoshop. Can't live without it.
couldnt really find any on the layered stencils. So even though u cant post a vid do u have to have the same stencil/pic for each color? and for each one do u cut out a different part that u want a different shade?
i cut out 3 stencils, for each color. each stencil is only 1 color and i use the same picture for each stencil. I used photoshop to help me split the colors using desaturate>brightness-contrast>posterize (3color). This helps me see what is white, what is black, and what is grey.
Although for this stencil, the background was grey so it saved me a stencil since the grey color on his face was what i didnt use a stencil on.
what do you spray paint the final work on? is that some sort of canvas?

@claree2 yes, just a 16x20 canvas
