Our children and grandchildren have no hope of ever paying of this massive debt. A private meeting at the white house with Barry and shes "charmed" and votes for whatever he wants. I hope Susan Collins loses. To any fellow Mainers reading who aren't sure who to vote for please know that this women has voted for the Bush tax cuts to the wealthy, voted for the Patriot act, and for going into Iraq.
I am impressed that the Republicans, normally known for shunning those different from them, would embrace Senator Collins. I am not talking about rumors of her sexuality. I am referring to her enormous speech impediment. This gives hope to all those out there who look funny and speak awkwardly.
Susan Collins is one of the few great U.S. Senators. She is a strong voice for Maine, and a bipartisan politician. How anyone in Maine could want her gone is unfathomable to me.
your an idiot. Collins doesnt seem to have an independent thought in her head. Only votes with the majority, even if they change every ten minutes. Maine is almost bankrupt, full of medicaid sucking immigrants, and no jobs anywhere. Yeah Collins has done wonders for Maine
I'm not sure who will be voting for Collins with her links to rightwing hate groups like Little Green Footballs, and her web designer penning sexist attacks against well-known bloggers.
Initial polls in Maine showed Susan Collins outpolled her Democratic "do-nothing" opponent by 2-1. It's because Collins delivers for Maine and has worked extremely hard in a bi-partisan manner to secure our country and improve the effectiveness of the Dept. of Homeland Security.
Senator Collins is a great Senator. Someone please tell me the last thing that Tom Allen has actually done. He and the rest of the democrats are so quite in and obscure I actually forgot that Tom Allen was even around. If we lose Senator Collins as a voice of Maine then Maine will lose a great position in national politics.
Rep. Tom Allen announced the introduction of his comprehensive small business initiative recently in two pieces of legislation. H.R. 2132, the Small Business Health Plans Act, would provide comprehensive health insurance choices for small employers with benefits and coverage comparable to that of Members of Congress and other fed employees. H.R. 2133, the Small Business Investment and Promotion Act, provides small businesses with a tax credit to provide relief from high energy prices and more.
It's a good thing that Tom Allen looks out for small businesses. Maine is full of them and in the business climate that exists here now they will get smaller. Tax, tax, tax tax, take, take , take, take. Do you think there is a theme here. By the way: How long has he been in office? Only 2 accomplishments that you can think of that he can attest to being involved with?
You said: "please tell me the last thing that Tom Allen has actually done." So, I told you. Yes, taxes are too high. That's not Allen's job or the 2 Republican senators' jobs. Do I have to explain everything to you? Baldacci wants to lower property taxes. He supports the bipartisan GrowSmart plan prepared by Mainers and the Brokkings Institute. I hope the legislature and newly re-elected gov do something about both.
A more accurate statement would be "Baldacci wants to shift the property tax burden." His plan will penalize anyone moving to the state and buying a new house, anyone selling a house to upgrade or move and the property values of everyhouse bought or sold in Maine.
Yes, that's inflation. A lot of rich people got richer off the real estate bubble. A lot of middle class made out on selling homes also, even in Maine. I used it myself to get a better house with sale proceeds. Naturally, my taxes increased. It will be harder for young people starting out to buy a home. GOP doesn't care. A lot of people got screwed on predatory lending. GOP Congress did nothing.
Typical liberal spewing. Lets blame the GOP. Predatory lending has nothing to do with the GOP it has to do with stupid borrowers and corrupt lenders with no political affiliation.
Lenders are republican. Everyone saw people were getting hoodwinked. GOP did nothing last year. Dems have started hearings. Your compassion is conservative.
Lenders are republican?? Nice broad brush you are using. Everyone saw people getting hoodwinked? If people saw they were getting hoodwinked why would they continue???? Great logic.....
I dont want more tax cuts. I want less social programs, less illegal aliens and less laziness in America. I hate that the Democrats think government intervention solves everything.
The government's job is to step in when capitalism fails. When people abuse the system, someone has to stop them or it nothing but robber barons. "lazziness" "hate" Poor, Kurt, he sees a world where everybody's getting a free ride but him. he has no compassion for sufferers. he doesn't know Christ. Not like I know him.
No free ride needed here. I grew up poor, put myself through college and I make a great living. The problem is there are too many free rides. Pandering politicians try to give everyone everthing. Look how that is working out for the social security system. If things don't change the system will break.
Knowing Christ has nothing to do with this. I am a practicing christian. I give 10% of my income to my church, 10% to charity and volunteer through my local rotary club. I have compassion for those who need it. I don't for those who just want it but don't need it. Keep trying jimbojim...your not even close.
Taxes are Tom Allens job. Everything that he or the current and hopefully re-elected republican Sentators do in Washington affects Maine. Each time they make national life more "tax expensive" the state needs to increase taxes to cover lost revenu. With just over 1 million peope in Maine we are more apt to have to "cover" him and all of his colleagues plans.
Bush cut taxes. What more do you want? Do you oppose improved health care/lower drug costs for seniors and wounded vets? Bush's medicare fix fixed nothing. Or maybe you want to eliminate all social programs like most republicans and increase corporate welfare? Give more to Haliburton/KBR?
I do want improved healthcare. Only I don't want it via govt intervention. It will cost 10 times what the private sector would charge. The cost would just be hidden in so many tax increases that it wouldn't be clear what the cost actually is.
Private healthcare would have worked for the auto industry if the union wasn't so greedy and corrupt. You can only get so much out of a system before it fails. Your example points to a system that failed because of the unions. Try again.
By the way, the American Auto Industry is failing because of those same unions. They, pretty much full of democrats, kept wanting more. The high cost of wages and benefits pushed american auto prices past foreign competition. Detroit is dead and the unions caused it. Talk about eating your own young.
The auto industry is failing because despite astronomical salaries, the CEO's keep directing their plants to make worthless crap. Todays cars are designed to fall apart so you have to keep buying them over and over again.
You can't blame the workers, they work hard and deserve a little protection, after all there wouldn't be unions in the first place if upper management weren't popoulated with such soulless snakes.
Haliburton, that is the sure fire liberal smear tactic. Show me someone in the real world outside of politics that actually was involved in Haliburton or KBR?
Absolute complete nonsense. I'm a Mainer. Collins didn't "change her ways" until it became apparent last November she would be the next to go....now she makes highly visible against bush on highly visible issues. everywhere else, its business as usual -- she does what the Republican leadership tells her to...regardless of how badly it hurts Maine. Just 18 months more, and maybe then we'll get a Senator who represents us. Fingers crossed.
PLEASE DON'T READ THIS. You will get kissed on the nearest possible Friday by the love of your life. Tomorrow will be the best day of your life. However, if you don't post this comment to at least 3 videos, you will die within 2 days. Copy and paste this, to be saved
I would like to see Congress do something REAL campaign finance reform -- like possibly passing a law making it illegal for nonresidents of a state to get involved in political issues outside of their own state. What is fair about the fat cats of one state, being able to decide who will be the next senator, congressman, etc. of another state?
Senator Collins is one of the LEAST partisan senators. She's a moderate. Democrats and Republicans alike can appreciate her willingness to vote her conscience. She's been effective. She's spoken out against the troop escalation. She knows what she's talking about.
If it's a democrat running against Sue Collins there's no difference. Better to keep the more experienced for Maine. If the Iraq War is still an issue after 2 years of democratic controlled Congress, then the democrats lied about pulling out of Iraq in 2006.
Actually the Democratic party is NOT a sponsor of the ad. Susan Collins speaks one thing and does another- continually. Lets end the lies. Lets put a Senator in Washington who would truly vote in the best interests of the country, not Haliburton.
The polical terrorist Dems are at it again. Throwing around their distortions, lies and inaccuracies at someone that has done well for Maine. It nice to see her fighting back. Time for the state legislators to outlaw outside political funds from pouring into our state and being use to fund attack ads. Senator Collins has always supported the rank and file and she'll have my vote!
And you obviously don't know what you're talking about. Your comment sounds like the typical BS that comes out of ignorant Americans like you. And there are a lot of you in this country.
Don't vote for Susan Collins because, although she's a good person, she's a Republican, who says she's against the war but votes with her party to keep it going. Another Dem senator would help end the war. Funny this lousy ad doesn't address the war. Who cares about the photo? It's use was symbolic. Get real. I'm a Mainer.
The "truth" Senator Collins is that you want it both ways. You say you are against the surge, but you refuse to vote for a definitive end. Do you think the Maine voters are dimwitted? We both know that the nonsense about "not supporting the troops" is a fallacious argument. Get real, and get some cajones.
The ONLY truth is that she voted against a timetable to end the war. And the Democratic bill has escape clauses to allow the troops to stay in Iraq longer if conditions force it... It is not even a sure thing that the war would end. By her vote she has shown that she wants to stay the course of endless war based on lies and deception, strengthening our enemies.
Be factual. This outside special interest group is a major support of the Democratic issues. You may say they are not democrats but in fact that is who the represent. How coincidental that these attacks on Senator Collins come right after Allen announces his plan to run against Senator Collins.
Funny, my comment you are replying to was posted 4 weeks ago. Congressman Allen just announced last week. Collins is not the worst republican, but she enables the really bad ones. She needs to get courageous like Snowe on the war. Collins and Snowe, however, vote with republicans on the war and other evil agenda items. Elect a Dem for change!
Elect a Dem for a change. Maine, for as long as anyone can remember, has elected a Dem. What has it gotten anyone in Maine. We need different, Republicans may not be the answer but they have not had a chance in this state. I will never willingly vote for a democrat.
Prove it! Look at her voting record. Outside special interest groups, Not Democrats created the video.
I'm from Northern Maine where Miss Collins is from. The year she was voted in, her brother was convicted of drug trafficking. She tried very hard to hide that.
Get your facts before you comment on something you know nothing about. Typical of republicans. They'll spread a lie until the mass morons believe it. Do you believe everything you hear??
So her brother being convicted makes her a bad Senator? That has absolutely nothing to do with her record as a Senator. That's simply a cheap tactic to diminish her credibility as a Senator. Look at the number of pieces of legislation she's sponsored. She's co-sponsored legislation with big Democrats like Claire McCaskill and Hillary Clinton. She's pro-choice. She has NEVER missed a vote in twelve years in Congress. You are gravely mistaken if you believe that she is partisan.
There's a reason why there are quotation marks around "truth." Why won't Senator Collins mention the fact that she did indeed vote against the 2007 Iraq Supplemental that demands accountability from the President? And why is she bashing "out of state" money when she recently accepted a $10,000 check from an "out of state" PAC?
I find it amusing and revealing that Sen. Collins has entitled her spin-video "Sen. Collins 'Truth'", putting the word "truth" in quotation marks. At least she recognizes that the punctuation is necessary in order to differentiate her "truth" from the real truth. The real truth? Sen. Collins faced a clear and simple choice: support the troops or support Bush and his failed Iraq policies, support ending the war or endless war. Clearly, she made the wrong choice.
Susan Collins is a coward. She said after travelling to Iraq in December that she opposed a surge, and then she goes ahead and votes to deny any accountability for the president. She perfectly exemplifies the saying that you can be a republican, or a good american, but not both. She is a Bush boot licking Republican and does not represent Maine at all!!
She didn't deny the ad. Her "truth" ad simply says that it was outside groups that made the ad. well duh. She is a typical republician that can"t take responsibility for her actions and votes.
SHe is such a coward, the POINT of the ad was that she voted to keep the war going... SHE SAID NOTHING ABOUT THE POINT OF THE AD... SHE IS A WAR MONGER OF THE HIGHEST REGARD.
Collins is a coward and she will not tell us the truth, that she will do what ever BUSH wants.
Collins voted against the troop funding bill because it required massive troop redeployments out of Iraq by March of '08. This vote, regardless of her stance on the "surge", proves that the senator does not wish to bring the troops home. Moste Americans, on the other hand, want the troops brougt home. Her defeat will be a replay of Lincoln Chaffee's.
Now I know the TRUTH!!! The truth is that she is a Republican, the party of war. The party of outlawing homosexuals. She also does not dispute the claim that she voted against the law that recently passed calling for an end to this pointless war that she and her brethern have tricked us into. The truth is Republicans stand for the destruction of America, one tax cut for the rich at a time.
Gosh, she's against the surge? Well then, why doesn't she vote with the Democrats to end the war the way Republican senator Chuck Hagel did? Maybe she's just a rubber stamp for the president when it comes to the things that really matter. Fake rhetoric when it comes to the surge, Bush-pimping when it comes to the votes.
Senator Collins is a coward who is terrified of standing up to George Bush the lesser. She keeps saying she is a moderate, so you can expect to happen to her next year, what happened to Lincoln Chaffee last year. You can be a good American, or a Republican, but not both Senator.
The original "Smear ad" as you call it was not needed. We already know your record. The ad speaks truth and I am certain you'll be struggling to hold your position in 2008. Word of mouth is a vey powerful thing...
Senator Collins has marketed herself as a moderate Republica, yet she's required to vote with the extremists in her party over and over. If she wanted to guarantee her re-election she would switch sides. Why she won't is beyond me.
Her shining hour was voting against the Clinton impeachment. Since then, she's been another Repug hack.
I would have respect for you if you would've had the GUTS to say that you either support Bush's "war of choice," or had voted to set a timeline, but you have done neither. You don't want to take a stand on principle, because you have none. Instead you want more of the same.
Our sons and daughters get maimed and killed while you sit on your hands trying to get re-elected.
Susan, I know you are reading this. You support never ending war, you support pat roberton's running of the justice department, you support the use of torture by the US, you support the suspension of habeus corpus, you are a compliant child for bush and cheney.
Support for the troops is now very narrowly defined by the public as BRING THEM HOME. Sophist Republican snarlings aside, she is an enabler and it really doesn't matter who funded the truth (the ad) does it?
Susan: talking the talk is one thing, but walking the walk is a whole other deal. You've failed to oppose Bush, and you've failed Maine. You don't deserve to serve anymore.
If Susan Collins is against the surge, then why did is she voting against the Iraq Supplemental Funding to simply maintain the status quo? Withdrawal is no good, escalation is no good, but the current situation is perfectly fine?
Perhaps rather than worrying about where the funding for ads is coming from, the Senator could try to explain her pro-war, Bush-enabling agenda to the people of Maine honestly and directly.
I've seen the ad, and I support it. Talk is cheap, Collins has voted to continue the occupation in Iraq. Typical republican strategy of attacking the messenger for exposing Collins for what she is, a duplicitous double talker. Can't have it both ways, senator.
I've seen the ad, and I support it. Talk is cheap, Collins has voted to continue the occupation in Iraq. Typical republican strategy of attacking the messenger for exposing Collins for what she is, a duplicitous double talker. Can't have it both ways, senator.

This is a really effective response.

She didn't deny the ad. Her "truth" ad simply says that it was outside groups that made the ad. well duh. She is a typical republician that can"t take responsibility for her actions and votes.
Pasc7598 4 years ago

Dear God, I can't believe how many typos were in that last of mine! Oh, the shame!

Senator? Did you vote for the surge?

Nice try Senator Collins. All we have to do is look at your voting record.

Support for the troops is now very narrowly defined by the public as BRING THEM HOME. Sophist Republican snarlings aside, she is an enabler and it really doesn't matter who funded the truth (the ad) does it?
Enjoy.

this war is a lie and Senator Collins is an enabler.

Susan: talking the talk is one thing, but walking the walk is a whole other deal. You've failed to oppose Bush, and you've failed Maine. You don't deserve to serve anymore.
PeoplePower08 4 years ago

I sure have, and she deserved it.
She voted against a timetable to bring our troops home.
And she's gonna suffer next election. That's how it goes.
