  • It's a nice performance, but I've never even heard a rumor of him playing this piece, let alone recording it in his 70's or 80's - which the sound quality here would have required. I wonder who it really is.

  • the sound get through my heart

  • i have a reader's digest collection of rubinstein vinyls. the campanella there sounds nothing at all like this. what is posted here is a fraud. i put the player at no more than early twenties,

  • i agree. not rubinstein. fairly nice interpretation but somewhat heavy handed. that's the giveaway. you can't lie about this sort of thing.

  • Not Rubinstein! Great playing but not Rubinstein.

  • I can practice this single piece for 50 years and not play anything close to this...

  • better than Kissin I guess?

  • This is magnificent, just magnificent. Oh wow, Rubenstein is perfect.

  • I like how he put "violin" "Beethoven" "Chopin" and "Horowitz" in the tags.

  • I would give anything to play like this. Except my hands.

  • @redshark618 how about a dollar?

  • I've not seen anyone including Kissin or Yundi Li bring out the bell like sound he brings out the piano at 1:50 - hence the name 'la campanella' - 'the little bell'.... beautiful! Though I don't think anyone beats Kissin's ending!!

  • @daniard37 dude the piece is not supposed to sound like a bell, thought I do like his version better than the other 2... Paganini wrote this for the violin to imitate a very high kind of Italian opera, which does not exist anymore... the reason its called la campanella is because when played with an orchestra, the orchestral accampaniament has a bell playing throughout the whole piece.

  • The best performance of all time.Everything is cristal clear.Nobody is match to him.

  • Who do you think is playing Mr. hein2213? To me there is not another pianist can play like that.

  • It is not Rubinstein playing.

  • 46 idiots at the time!!!

  • this is too perfect to be played by a human...

  • The world without Rubinstein would be a very barren place!

  • Cziffra's version sounds like a real bell though

  • it really sounds so good...

  • fucking awezome yundi li isnt nobody

  • What an artist! Incredible technique, colour and control. An absolute lesson in piano playing.

  • I love that bell like sound in the interpretation at 1:50

  • meh, i seemed to notice that female pianists get this song down amazingly better than male ones.

  • @Dunderhead36 in your dreams, gavrilov, lang lang and rubinstein absolutely nails this piece.

  • In my opinion, the best interpretation of Liszt's La Campanella.

    He just nails it!

  • NOT RUBINSTEIN

i dont think he EVER recorded this piece

  • ...strong.

  • this Version is the best on Youtube! :)

  • I absolutely love this piece, to me it's about the fire that inspiration burns inside you

  • this is good but take a look at yundi li. He kills this song.

  • @jonnyboy366 - La Campanella is not a *SONG* . Songs are things that you *SING*

  • You know, as a person myself that never listens to Classical music, I would have to say that is a fantastic song.

  • @duttoi It is obvious you don't, seeing you call it a song. But I won't be an arse - welcome to this side of music, happy you enjoy!

  • @duttoi: it's not a *song*, for heaven's sake!!!!

  • @LoverOfDebussy Oh, I'm sorry. I was embracing this wonderful masterpiece, but it seems that I can't, since guys like you get mad over someone calling this a "song". So, I apologize.

  • Magnificent.

  • Was a pleasure lisztening to this. Franztastic

  • @ImmortalSpecies i love you

  • that is not Arthur Rubinstein. He never recorded that piece.

  • @tastyy24 fWHHAHHHAT>??????

  • @fateplus1 Actually it has been stated on this video several times that this is not Rubinstein.

  • How could be this possible? 47 ppl don't like this!??

  • My favorite interpretation thus far of this classic piece.

  • No hay mejor pianista ejemplar a seguir y a transmitirlo a nuestras interpretaciones. :) Es impresionante

  • its not humanly possible....is it?

  • It's the best version I ever heard. Bravo!

  • Did you know that for a long time until he died, Rubinstein always played a Steinway? So did Horowitz. I got to meet the man who was piano technician for both of them. He told us that shortly before his death, rubinstein was in a wheelchair and had shingles on his eyes. He also told us that once, when alone with him, Rubinstein broke down, stressed, in fluent German even though he promised never to again after Hitler. Talking to Franz Mohr, I thought I was getting to know Rubinstein better.

  • If you you want to understand what is the genius of this little big man, try to listen the same piece by some other performers in youtube. You'll ear the fluidity, the infinite grace, and the greatness of his performance. This is god playing music through this man!!!!!

  • 2:05 he play with his mind!! O:

  • Bravo Arhtur!!! Bravo!!!!!!

  • personne ne l'a surpassé!!

  • 47 people don't like this music.

  • @MKUMBRA Correction... 47 people don't know what music is.

  • and i thought i could play piano -.-

  • 47 people are-SHUT UP AND LISTEN TO THE DAMM MUSIC!

  • 47 people are-SHUT UP AND LISTEN TO THE DAMM MUSIC!

  • ahahahahahahahahahahahaha!!!!!! the first image means that he is playn this when he was 6 years old

  • very good

  • @dayzero2 i get what u say but and ofc listz is idolized by everyone but we also admire the one who gives his passion to the pieace ..... Noone underestimated Listz

  • please do not idolize the one who interprets it....instead just do it on Liszt...

  • @dayzero2 nope... talents like rubinstein must be highly praised! many people will play this, but it will not sound nearly as good!! lets thank him for giving us the opsibility to listen to this interpretation!

  • @dayzero2 the credit given to the composer and the credit given to the pianist are mutually distinct, but equally important. Any serious pianist knows how hard it is to play this piece not only with expert precision but also with the ethereal grace demonstrated in this recording. post a recording of yourself playing this piece so marvelously and you will surely be venerated as well.

  • @androidpimp Well said, strongly agree.

  • @dayzero2 Don't forget to dote on Paganini, as La Campanella is Liszt's adaptation of that piece.

  • Omg this is soo dreamy dude.

  • nice interpreation~! very dreamy :DDDDDDDDD

  • It is too lyrical for La Campanella.....in my opinion

  • This is the dreamiest La Campanella I've heard to date. Almost like Debussy took a turn at it.

  • Bello .

  • so perfect ...

  • Dear Youtube,

    Make a repeat button. Now.

    You better,

    Me

P.S. At least set it up for this video because I feel like I have raped the replay button too many times. Might get arrested soon. So please please please hurry.

  • @musicizzliife youtuberepeat

  • @musicizzliife Make a playlist with the same video added 100 times - It always works for me!

  • What a great interpretation of this piece!! It's so rare now adays to find a pianist that makes music from this extremely virtuosic piece.

    Bravo!

    DL

  • Shame that the title is misleading, but whoever is playing this is brilliant nonetheless. I knew there was a reason I remembered the title of this piece, it's so beautiful and whimsical.

  • Arthur and Anton relation?

  • @slovakmath Nothing at all. Just the same name :)

  • やさしくて、ちょっと切ない音色かなぁ~。う~ん、いいなぁ~。はぁぁあ・・・・

    いいなぁぁぁああ・・・・・・。癒される。

  • Just found out I'm related to Arthur Rubinstein and Helena Rubinstein, + i love playing piano too, !

  • @sujeymeramotta oh, that must be incredible! I also found out yesterday I'm related to Osama! And I love kissing my AK47 too!

  • Rubinstein discusses La Campanella in his 2nd memoir book. He always avoided it as an encore piece. He also avoided playing Chopin's etudes. Could he play them? Without a doubt. Heifetz avoided the Paganini concertos out of fear that he might fumble. I find that hard to believe, but apparently he said it.

  • >Everyone agrees that this interpretation kicks ASS.

Then Nico needs to have the human decency to credit the ACTUAL pianist -- who, as I point out, "does a stylish, athletic job." If I were him, I'd contact my legal dept.

  • Rubinstein never recorded La Campanella . . . this isn't him playing . . . period.

Many of us have pointed this out to Nico22059 over the last couple years, but he ignores us. Presumably he falsely attributes this to Rubinstein in order to get more hits -- which is not only outrageously dishonest but an appalling disservice to the ACTUAL pianist in this performance ... who does a stylish, athletic job and deserves some real credit. For shame, Nico!

  • @rick1walter,

To damn many people misrepresenting things and way to many other people who just love to argue.

Everyone agrees that this interpretation kicks ASS.

A piece of advice. Maybe it ain't Rubinstein but why not just click on this video, sit back, close your eyes and ENJOY it, whoever was sitting on the piano bench!

My wife is an accomplished pianist. When she plays, I don't sit there and compare her to other pianists, I just enjoy! After all, that's why they play for us.

  • @rick1walter

Maybe they don't bother reading the comments...since this was posted nearly 4 and a half years ago...

  • @rick1walter Do you know who is playing then? Cause I would like to know who...

  • Comment removed

  • @rick1walter I don't know the performer. tajniak4 below identifies the pianist as one Kazune Shimizu. Try contacting this source.

As for the artist NOT being Artur Rubinstein, this is indisputable. His full discography is a matter of public record (see the Harvey Sachs bio, among other sources), also many of his concert programs. There isn't a shred of evidence that he EVER performed Campanella.

  • Donald Manildi, International Piano Archives, University of Maryland, compiled a complete discography of Rubinstein's recordings and piano rolls. (In "Rubinstein, a Life" by Harvey Sachs.) La Campanella is not in either listing. Rubinstein himself also doesn't mention this composition in either volume of his autobiography. That doesn't mean he never played it, but maybe it was not one of his favorite Liszt pieces. His Hungarian Rhapsodies 10 and 12 are knockouts (and real Rubinstein).

  • This isn't Rubinstein, so why is it still posted? Isn't there are way to get it outta here?

  • Whoever actually played it, there is one conclusion...Liszt was a BEAST.

  • @snoops4ever lollllllllllll

  • this is just the best thing ever

  • Me encanta.

  • i would've given up the entire universe to have heard Liszt play this piece himself.

  • Is this to fuckin' hard for person who uploaded this to change the title and write it was mistake?

It is not Rubinstein playing -.it's Kazune Shimizu.

  • i also have my doubts if it is Rubinstein. There is something ''tingling'' that is missing which rubinstein always has. this recording is brillliant but lacks that certain je ne sais quoi which rubinstein NEVER lacks at any time.

  • Genial !!! Astor Piazzolla lo vio en el año 1939 en Buenos aires y quedo enamorado !!!

  • Another great Campanella: "La Campanella" played by Alicia de Larrocha. I really recomend it!!!!

You can find it in You Tube.

  • I have officially raped the replay button

  • Beautiful upload! Thank you!

  • it not Rubinstein

  • How COULD someone dislike this?

  • @Leitilumo I know, but I'm glad there are dislike buttons,.. it's the ratio that's inportant... 42 to 1... that's a healthy majority...and at least those who dislike had a chance to judge... that's a good society for me!

  • Lizt is TOTALLY INSANE. This piece is HARD like HELL.

  • @LAWSAREFORIDIOTS haha it is XD

I tried and I failed... and I have been playing th epiano for some time....it was quite a sad moment when I put the music away XD

  • @LAWSAREFORIDIOTS and there are many pieces extremely harder than this : )

Anyway, only few of them are famous and beautiful like this piece.

  • @Talokaaa could you give some examples of pieces that are harder than this?

  • @LAWSAREFORIDIOTS And perhaps you did not see the original version before he "nerfed" it because it was unplayable....priceless :-)

  • MASTER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • incredible

  • Better than Li Yundi's version in my opinion, esp from 3:51 to 4:23.

  • @seaweed719 Better than Li Yundi's version, particularly from 0:01 to 4:32, in my opinion

  • @Drain409 You do know that's the whole--oh, wait...

  • This is soo amazing.

  • I thought Rubenstein liked to add his own little stuff. But I don't hear any of that

  • this doesnt sound like Artur...?

  • SO wonderful OMGG Loove it !

  • listening to this song makes me feel like stardust

  • I bet many of you wouldn't have been able to guess whether this was or wasn't Rubinstein had the "This isn't him" comments not come up :P!

  • Could not be Rubinstein...the playing is too flawless...Rubinstein was known for his many klinkers......

  • Me encanta La campanella de Liszt

  • Pretty obvious that this is not Rubinstein. But it's really fine anyway.

  • 32 dislikes. I can't understand how could it be...

  • This is Kazune Shimizu interpretation

Not Mr Rubinstein as they say

  • he is not Arthur

  • @MaxPlanck011 i too, like vagina

  • Why .... Why? Why post a recording of musician X and give credit to musician Y ??

And even more WHY... why dont you change the description of this clip?

    Insane.

  • Kudos to Kazune Shimizu. I remembered someone had mistaken him for Maurizo Pollini. If Mr. Shimizu should know, I hope he would be happy that everyone thinks he qualifies as a legendary piano master.

  • LOL/ D

    now that's random/ ]

  • simple but elegant/ )

    i'm talking bout the melody/ j

  • @rukashawn thank you for clarifying urself haha. i was going to say.. the song is.... probably one of the most difficult pieces written.... i was going to ask you how it was simple :)

  • @scottjop656

    hehehe, . . . .i knew someone would react bout my comment/ D

    your welcome anyway/ )

  • @scottjop656

It is not a song it is a piece

lady gaga makes songs liszt wrote pieces

  • @crellow58 very true... sorry for the mix up. wasn't thinking very much when i made the comment.

  • @crellow58 So, "Am Rhein, im schönen Strome", "Morgens steh ich auf und frage", "Anfangs wollt' ich fast verzagen" and "Über allen Wipfeln ist Ruh'" aren't songs of Liszt's? He didn't set Goethe and Victor Hugo verse to music? Popular music does not aim to oppose its structural and harmonic origins in western classical music, but why are advocates of "classical' music so defensive?

Though you are right, this is not a song, there is nothing inherantly better about a piece without voice.

  • @crellow58 It would actually be better to post something supporting Lady gaga than say something so stupid like that. Songs are a major part of music. In fact even these kind of composers wrote songs. For example Chopin has music for songs, even if they are not so famous as his other composition. The worst part about your comment though is that you got 80 likes, which is something very worrying...

  • Superb. Thank you for posting this.

  • Hasta que punto una persona puede llegar a sobresalir creando una música tan bella que rompe con la época y sobrevive más allá de la vida de su creador.

  • He is the best ever !! I love his interpretation, perfect !! You can compare with others, He is the best of all. ^o^

  • Regarding the actual piece, how hard is it to play well on a scale of 1 to 10 with 10 being extremely hard? As for the guy playing it, never heard of this Rubinstein, but he seems a pretty good.

  • player.

  • @Puzzoozoo Pretty good is nothing to how good Arthur Rubinstein plays. Yundi li is good. Arthur Rubinstein is great. He is up with Horowitz And Rachmaninov. I mean when you hear it, it conveys emotion you feel it, with so much clarity and just perfection. Evgeny kissin is great also.

  • @wendellvasquez1988 Heard of Rachmaninov, but not the other guys, but then I'm not really a fan of classical music. As for this piece, is it a really hard piece to learn and play well?

  • @Puzzoozoo it's a big whopping 10

  • Second to Kissin. Only just.

  • This recording is Mr. Kazune SHIMIZU(SONY '85), not Mr. Rubinstein.

I love both pianist. If the exchange deliberately, I think sad.

  • @PhilharmonyOrchestra Kazune is boooooomb! this is the best piano playin I've ever heard!

  • @charliebubblesoar

    Thank you for the reply.

I like performance of Mr. Andre WATTS(SONY '70) too.

  • @PhilharmonyOrchestra

Hm, how do you know? By listening to their style of playing/reading up on it? I'm curious because I wish I could listen to a piece and know exactly who's playing it (or at least have an idea).

  • @keetner Thank you for the reply. I have following CD. It is quite the same sound source as this performance. ***** FRANZ LISZT: PIANO CONCERTO NO.1 / PAGANINI ETUDEN etc, KAZUNE SHIMIZU(piano) LONDON SYMPHONY ORCHESTRA MICHEL TILSON THOMAS(conductor) [CBS/SONY RECORDS 30DC 5058]
  • @PhilharmonyOrchestra how do you know that ?

  • @cheesesandwitchs

I am sorry for the delay in answering.

I was listening to the CD for a long time,

I have understood that it is the same performance at once.

  • @yayoi03041981

I am very glad for you to sympathize.

  • @PhilharmonyOrchestra

I was so exited i found yours the other day..

felt THE same...haha...nice performance anyway, right!?

    thank you for the reply.

  • Respond to this video...

well.... my first impression was same...

  • He is the Master.

  • I clicked the Like button 5 times.

  • No words. Best version of La Campanella ever.

But still, who plays it? Is it Rubinstein or is it not?

  • man, he makes kissin's version sound like an amateur piece

  • is there anything more beautiful than this?

  • ... endlich mal wieder eine Version, die auch Spaß macht sie anzuhören. Rubinstein halt ...

  • without doubt the best recorded version of this piece

  • TwelfthRoot2 and drummerofdeath21...

everything you say is great...this la campanella is the best, perfect!!!

but can you be sure it's rubi playing it?...

  • Senstive and flawless.

  • Diese Interpretation gefällt mir am besten. Weiche flüssige Anschäge. Keine Übertreibungen. Melodisch verständlich. Meisterlich. Das macht Freude, kann ich immer wieder hören, so gut ist das.

  • wooh mon dieu, it's stunningly perfect, peerless ! wow!

  • So perfect! His and Kissin's are absolutely the best!

  • @CLASSICAListheWAY

kissin has no chance to get compared with the master
