I have a 336 and its also in 35 Remington mine was doing the same thing and it was ended up being all you need to do is tighten up the screws on both sides of it near the loading gate
@blkft12 my dad shoots 300 my uncle shoots 30-06 and my cousin shoots 270 and i shoo 35 remington from hornady and shoot tighter groups at 150 yards than all of them
Nice purchase! I bought a new Marlin 35 Rem 2 years ago and you're right, it will kick the crap out of your shoulder. But it is a nice little gun! And good choice with the Hornady ammo, these guns seems to like that the most out of all the ammo that I've tried.
the one without the scope should have a safety by just barely pulling back the hammer until it click but don't pull it all the way, mine was my grandads so it is about 60 years old.
I have the marlin 336 that take 35 Remington. I killed two deer with it last year deer season one was a young buck and the other was a old doe. Marlin 336 that take 35 Remington has a nice kick back. The buck I shot broke this two front legs. That because I lost my rear sight on the gun. But later on I got one off eBay and then I tag that doe.
I have lots of long guns, I also have the .35 it has been my rifle of choice for hunting deer here in Ga. I have killed a butt load of deer with it over the last 20 years I bought it new at Kmart for $149.00. I also have a marlin 30/30
I bought from my uncle after after he found out he had a dibilitating illness. It has never been fired I gonna give it to my Grand son unfired when he gets old enough.
I can see why it kicks that bullet your using pretty big......my .35 does not kick as hard as the 30-06 when I used leverevolution, but the powder makes a big difference, when i sighted my .270 the 125 grain had average kick but when I used the 150gr. it was a painful kick, the 150gr. had a more powerful powder, in other words more grains more kick for a good velocity.
Nice rifle, I have one from the 70's also. My Dad left it to me,and maybe only ten rounds have gone thru it, I don't have any reason to own it, some day I might trade for a handgun or something.
Kick!? I have been hunting with a .35 since I was 11, I also use and old .3006 03A3 and a 7 mag..But my .35 is a Deer Killer. I love this calibre. At one time I owned a .3030, I sold it and never looked back.
For a great calibre its hard to beat the .35,, its deadly on bears,Moose ,elk and just about any game animal exept the griz..dont go there.
tent not to like the scope idea... also the bolt locking issue is lack of use as u said as well as you have to lock the bolt semi fast. lastly the kick you will get used to i have 4 .35 rem's ranging from 1950's to late 90's there great guns and u paid a fair price thats what i got the last two for
Don't ruin that .35 with a scope either. Amazing shooting gun, what you should consider trying is setting up targets THROUGH brush and compare that 30-30 with that .35. I love hunting the thicket's and i love how the bullet still keeps form and knockdown going through the stuff. I've been shooting with one for years now, and by far my favorite out of my collection.
.35 remington has ballistics very similiar to .30-30, just makes bigger hole. not nearly as powerful as .308 or .30-06, but an excellent round out to about 125 yds, unless using Hornady Leverevolution.
@SuperNitroFish Yeah I shoot the .35 as my primary deer rifle and I've shot 30.06 and .308 and i agree with your comment above. If my advice means anything
@SuperNitroFish It all depends on the load you're shooting and the bullet used. The bigger the bullet the more it takes to push it out the muzzle. It is not as powerful as 300 Win, 30-06 Sprngfld or the 270 Win, which all shoot fairly flat out to 300 yrs. The 35 Rem is good out to 150 but will take down a deer at 200 if you know your bullet drop.
You got a VERY good deal. I've been shooting a .35 since 1979 when I was 12 years young. It's a beast to tote compared to the Winchester but it's a great caliber that has never failed me when I hit what I'm aiming at.
I can't say that for the 30/30 that my Dad has. It's a gun that I'll be glad to own, don't get me wrong. Both have there platform and uses.
They are two guns that I'll still sing the praises to even in this day & time.
If you still-hunt in the woods, don't scope it. Buy a peep sight. Try the Hornady's Leverevolution long-range ammo for deer, & you can hunt moose/elk/bear using BuffaloBore 220 grain bullets @ less than 150 yards, but it will kick noticeably harder with that ammo. Nothing a little extra practice can't cure. The .35 Remington in the Marlin 336 is the #1 hunting tool in my book.
The 35 Rem. is a real thumper on deer and black bear. It has quite a bit more energy because of the heavier bullet than the 30-30 Win. A great cartridge, nice find!
I bought a new 336 in 35 Remington. Had trouble a couple times with feeding and locking the lever. I think the tolerances are not that tight in the manufacture. I think with use it will get better. Next gun will be a Henry Big Boy in 44 mag.
the kick aint that bad

They are essentially the same rifle. The 336 may feature a gold trigger.....and a better set of "irons" but they both are great rifles. I own both.

Energy at 100 yards
35 Rem 200gn at 2100 fps 1313 ft lbs
30-30 Win 170gn at 2200 fps 1218 ft lbs
308 Win 180gn at 2500 fps 2115 ft lbs
Yes it's better than the 30-30 but not even close to the 308 Win or 270 Win.
However at close range it would be difficult to tell the difference when used on game animals or people.

@berhorst59 Hornady Leverevolution is what I use. Great cartridge.
SuperNitroFish 1 year ago
@berhorst59 It moves slower than a 308 or 30 06 so it has more knockdown power
Hunterman841 10 months ago
@berhorst59 Not to mention the Marlin 338 it will out perform the .308 and hang right with a 30-06, and it fires a 200 grain bullet.
JCrain03 8 months ago
@berhorst59 This round hits harder than an 06 or .308 out to about 100 150 yards. due to larger bullet in weight and diameter than either of them.
Hunterman841 6 months ago
@blkft12 I would say it hits a little harder than my dad's 30-06 and 308. I have not shot a 300 or a 270. I hope that helps.
