Ok for the sake of objectivity. Listen/watch the actual recording/MOVIE of the Monterrey Pops Festival. As good as they were in the studio, they sucked (soundwise) at that particular concert.

I saw them at the Hollywood Bowl in 1965 and they were fantastic. According to John, the reason they were so bad at Monterey was that "they had been so busy that [they'd] forgotten to actually rehearse."
