*sigh* Swans fans are fanatic. So for years I been asking them to direct me to a good Swans song. Alas, most of what they recommend is not up my alley, usually live stuff where everything is disembowelled by the band. Then I stumble across this, and before that "Better than you". Both winners. Sooo, next time direct me to the awesome stuff you buggers, not the B-side leftovers, eh wot? I mean Christ how good is this?
at the aTP festival in London Michael Gira was jumping and down on his knees and generally funny. then he sung Jane Mary, Cry one tear and then his. he has a great sense of self-distance! respect!
relevent in so many ways. I love his deep voice and the slow strumming. Music is great when you feel sane and normal because you finally have something to relate to. Its true art.
You must have missed the story about the Titanic, when the captain said,"Not even God Himself can sink this ship". Well, when you use God's name in vain like it's no big deal, you're setting yourself up for failure...
Repent... respect God, or reap the consequences (Exodus20:7)...
@AsmallVictory This song has helped you through tough times, therefore, no one else should be aloud to voice their opinion. Wow, talk about narcissism.
@cockofthenorth maybe, but you gotta admit thats its pretty hypocritical to come to a certain video and dislike it.. i mean why did you even come? just to click dislike for your little satisfaction? i cant stand that kind of people.. sry but its true
@MrCold768 I think it's lame to go to a video of a band you already know you hate, just to let the world know you hate that band. But, if you're checking out something new, and you happen to not like it, I guess it's somewhat reasonable to hit the dislike button. Otherwise, what's the point of having the option in the first place?
@cockofthenorth i agree.. but if you are a true listener and you really love music then you should leave the comment why the fuck you dont like it, to give some true arguments.. by clicking like or dislike you just fill the statistics which really makes no sense
@spaceghetto I absolutely agree. This video is entirely ruined by the maker putting a second and a half of text at the beginning of a video that is otherwise made up of a black screen and exists for the purpose of listening to a song. Because come on, who wants to listen to an excellent song after hearing someone say thank you? Total fuckwit.
@EmperorOfAllGhouls i was completely smashed when i left that comment some months or whenever ago and i'll have you know that heralding the uploader, spokenscream, as being a 'fuckwit' was incredibly wrong... when it's so bloody obvious that someone who chooses such a shit-for-brained lame username as "EmperorOfAllGhouls" clearly wears that shit-stained tag tattooed to their very soul.
It had to be done that you may see the truth .Clean it up ,Glory your maker from the begining.I see the great hope in you all. Many fell before the sungod.Just repent to the god of Daniel 2 v 20 kjv
This rendition is exactly how it was imagined in the first place. Magnificent piece of work showing all the right understandings of the song. Thank you and congratulations on a small masterpiece.
Just found Swans. Why on earth has it taken so long for someone to tell me about them?! This is just such a beautiful little heartfelt ballad. Genius. Any other reccomendations while we're at it? :)
@DeadWhiteButterflies Not necessarily (and not necessarily not) in this style, but: Angels of Light (of course), Strawfoot, Neurosis, Larkin Grimm, Palodine, David E. Williams.
When words fail to capture a thought, feeling or idea, there is no better way to express what is going on than put it to a melody. To make this feeling into something beautiful is the magic of music. While Failure may be a more appropriately titled song for this moment of my life, this song captures the feeling. Thanks Mr. Gira... It is hard to believe that a member of this band was also the drummer to the underrated thrash group Prong.
@lelejacko When I was a strapping young lad coming out into the world, I brought an album called 'Ten songs from another world' because I liked the golden vinyl and the three head dog cover amused me. That album is now my most listen to album. And the beginning of my love affair with the Swans/|Skin. Only The Swans are like a high maintance Girlfriend. They have so many albums and projects, I can't afford to keep up.
@Ladysn1ff It was the same for me and now after finding them I can't seem to get enough.....all their records are quite amazing, really consistent and hugely ambitious.....we both missed a massive trick, but thankfully we are here now, better late than never!
Swans: the soundtrack of my 20's. I look back a them fondly. As time went on, and I got older, things got better. It reminds me of how sad my life was, but I set out change it. Some of my peers. . .not so much. I see them around town, wow! Good music! It tells me what my life could have turned into: a bowl of shit.
anti-depressants rule, before I took them I'd be in tears by the 3rd chord, now it's just not as bad. if anyone is feeling like life isn't worth living try seeing a doctor that can prescribe meds. I did a lot of LSD, and smoked weed and drank alot, which totally fucked up the Serotonin levels in my brain. My meds make me feel that happy feeling right after you drop a hit of acid without going over the edge to the darkness.
Michael Gira played this as his closing song when he played a solo accoustic concert in Vienna in December 2008 at the jazz/accoustic/electronic Bluebird festival - Overwhelming, certainly "won over" the curious in the varied audience who had never heard of him or Swans previously...
@Stimutacbob Mate. Fair play to you. But it probably isn't his fault. I'm into death metal, black metal. Grindcore. and Meshuggah. And this stuff? I fucking love. It chills your soul out. I'm a big music man. And I think I speak for all of us when I say. Quality song!

The depth of sadness this song evokes is too overwhelming at times. I have difficulty playing it on a acoustic guitar without feeling depressed
