  • *sigh* Swans fans are fanatic. So for years I been asking them to direct me to a good Swans song. Alas, most of what they recommend is not up my alley, usually live stuff where everything is disembowelled by the band. Then I stumble across this, and before that "Better than you". Both winners. Sooo, next time direct me to the awesome stuff you buggers, not the B-side leftovers, eh wot? I mean Christ how good is this?

  • @Gadzooxtian HEHEHEEH burning world is the only swans cd i have as its the only one i can listen to :0)

  • Why does this song always make me happy????

  • @kingpest13 No idea, it makes me want to blow my head off.

  • And a wild smile on my face...

  • at the aTP festival in London Michael Gira was jumping and down on his knees and generally funny. then he sung Jane Mary, Cry one tear and then his. he has a great sense of self-distance! respect!

  • relevent in so many ways. I love his deep voice and the slow strumming. Music is great when you feel sane and normal because you finally have something to relate to. Its true art.

  • I Miss Your Arrogance

    And I Need Your Intelligence

    And Your Hate For Authority

    But Now You're Gone

    I Read It Today

    They Found You In Spain

    Face Down In The Street

With A Bottle In Your Hand

And A Wild Smile On Your Face

And A Knife In Your Back

  • I have never heard this song before today, I am amazed at the dark and beautiful lyrics. This song is incredible! Thanks for sharing.

  • I'd choose not to remember. But I miss your arrogance, and I need your intelligence. And your hate for authority.

    Damn, I miss you!

  • face down in the street, with a wild smile on your face and a knife in your back you died in a foreign land.

  • god damn that's beautiful.

  • A dark masterpiece. Thank you for posting.

  • My love - I'm sorry - but that damn sun still hurts.

  • Fine! My husband was right. :)

  • αγαπω.

  • god damn 6 people

  • god damn the light it shines on this world it shuns.

  • @fivetonsofflax i believe the lyric is 'god damn the light it shines and this world it shows'

  • im new to the swans but i now love them.. have you ever heard the expression "words cant describe"? well he just descibed that

  • im new to the swans but i now love them

  • trully one of the most brilliant songs ever!

  • omg this is such a beautiful song in a depressing kind of way i dont realky know how to express it

  • best lyrics of all time..... period

  • No other song can compete with the emotion in this very song.

  • fuck i wish i could write songs that kill people. thank you swans.

  • I hate this song because it's too awesome.

  • so simple,so true,so everyday....

  • Aaron Turner from ISIS lives this band :)

  • An open letter to the 5 people who disliked this:FUCK YOU! I really mean it. This is a perfect song and it has helped me through some tough times.

  • @AsmallVictory This song has helped you through tough times, therefore, no one else should be aloud to voice their opinion. Wow, talk about narcissism.

  • @cockofthenorth maybe, but you gotta admit thats its pretty hypocritical to come to a certain video and dislike it.. i mean why did you even come? just to click dislike for your little satisfaction? i cant stand that kind of people.. sry but its true

  • @MrCold768 I think it's lame to go to a video of a band you already know you hate, just to let the world know you hate that band. But, if you're checking out something new, and you happen to not like it, I guess it's somewhat reasonable to hit the dislike button. Otherwise, what's the point of having the option in the first place?

  • @cockofthenorth i agree.. but if you are a true listener and you really love music then you should leave the comment why the fuck you dont like it, to give some true arguments.. by clicking like or dislike you just fill the statistics which really makes no sense

  • @MrCold768 (i realize this comment is a month old, but meh)

The "dislike" button is for the videos other than music videos, so if it's a video of some fat chick singing or whatnot, people know not to watch it.

  • probably the most perfect youtube vdeo of all time.......

if only you'd left the fucking "thanks sunday.." bit out of it,

    you fuckwit.

  • @spaceghetto I absolutely agree. This video is entirely ruined by the maker putting a second and a half of text at the beginning of a video that is otherwise made up of a black screen and exists for the purpose of listening to a song. Because come on, who wants to listen to an excellent song after hearing someone say thank you? Total fuckwit.

  • @EmperorOfAllGhouls i was completely smashed when i left that comment some months or whenever ago and i'll have you know that heralding the uploader, spokenscream, as being a 'fuckwit' was incredibly wrong... when it's so bloody obvious that someone who chooses such a shit-for-brained lame username as "EmperorOfAllGhouls" clearly wears that shit-stained tag tattooed to their very soul.

  • Dark or light, their music always appealed to me.

  • It had to be done that you may see the truth .Clean it up ,Glory your maker from the begining.I see the great hope in you all. Many fell before the sungod.Just repent to the god of Daniel 2 v 20 kjv

  • This rendition is exactly how it was imagined in the first place. Magnificent piece of work showing all the right understandings of the song. Thank you and congratulations on a small masterpiece.

  • I listen to this. And I cry.

  • God Damn The Sun.

    Have A Nice Day.

  • One of the best songs EVER written

  • Hahaha this song makes you think of every bad memory in your life, yet I love to this to it atleast once a week.

  • this song makes me feel empty swans is a true art form

  • Comment removed

  • Made me cry. Beautiful.

  • seriously the most appropriate video of all time!

  • @PHAEDRIDER "nothingness", a black screen, the only appropriate video for this song. well done

  • Just found Swans. Why on earth has it taken so long for someone to tell me about them?! This is just such a beautiful little heartfelt ballad. Genius. Any other reccomendations while we're at it? :)

  • @DeadWhiteButterflies NEW ALBUM. it is fucking sick

  • @DeadWhiteButterflies SWANS ....feedtime....FuckedUp....Half Japanese...The Shags...any 1960's-1970's Ethiopian jazz....Amebix...CHROME...Frank Zappa

    amongst others..PAZ

  • @DeadWhiteButterflies Not necessarily (and not necessarily not) in this style, but: Angels of Light (of course), Strawfoot, Neurosis, Larkin Grimm, Palodine, David E. Williams.

  • ha for being written in a major key it conveys more sadness than anything i've ever heard

  • I saw Gira play this twice. I feel so lucky. Brilliant song.

  • molto bella

  • even major label Swans that Gira apparently wasn't proud of is superior to 98% of stuff out there...

  • I just found Swans. And I'm now on my 6th or 7th listen through of this song... In a row.

  • I love this song. So different from Filth/Cop era Swans, but every bit as awesome.

  • aah swans ... masters of depression :) youve got to love them

  • honestly this is like one of the saddest songs ever. it captures the very real emotion of endless depressing hopelessness so perfectly

  • I know quite a few people who simply don't "get/understand" Swans but all of them really like and understand this song. That voice, the voice...

  • shame the video goes black........ but maybe its meant to! deep symbolism man.

  • gorgeously bleak.love it!

  • When words fail to capture a thought, feeling or idea, there is no better way to express what is going on than put it to a melody. To make this feeling into something beautiful is the magic of music. While Failure may be a more appropriately titled song for this moment of my life, this song captures the feeling. Thanks Mr. Gira... It is hard to believe that a member of this band was also the drummer to the underrated thrash group Prong.

  • Nostalgija za muzikom iz mladosti...

  • @jebatekojijeovokurac but only now you understand it.

    When, when we were young...

  • Does this song have a certain person it was written for?

  • first time hearing this...2nd Swans song i've ever heard....I have goosebumps all over my body.

  • @lelejacko actually made me cry. its musical alchemy turns despair into gold and what a voice!

  • @lelejacko When I was a strapping young lad coming out into the world, I brought an album called 'Ten songs from another world' because I liked the golden vinyl and the three head dog cover amused me. That album is now my most listen to album. And the beginning of my love affair with the Swans/|Skin. Only The Swans are like a high maintance Girlfriend. They have so many albums and projects, I can't afford to keep up.

  • musica del limbo.

  • it breaks your heart

  • God damn the sun. It gave me sunburn once!

  • @NightRanger77 ha ha nice one man.

  • Although I knew the band by name years ago,it took me until last year to actually listen to some tracks, and I must say I've really missed a trick.

And yes,to the original poster, they do make me smile :)

  • @Ladysn1ff It was the same for me and now after finding them I can't seem to get enough.....all their records are quite amazing, really consistent and hugely ambitious.....we both missed a massive trick, but thankfully we are here now, better late than never!

  • hardcore

  • hey, you should listen to "circus mort" if you like this. its not as depressing but it has that no wave sort of sound and it's really good. blah

  • meat cakes

  • Swans: the soundtrack of my 20's. I look back a them fondly. As time went on, and I got older, things got better. It reminds me of how sad my life was, but I set out change it. Some of my peers. . .not so much. I see them around town, wow! Good music! It tells me what my life could have turned into: a bowl of shit.

  • bowl of shit huh sounds yummy

  • anti-depressants rule, before I took them I'd be in tears by the 3rd chord, now it's just not as bad. if anyone is feeling like life isn't worth living try seeing a doctor that can prescribe meds. I did a lot of LSD, and smoked weed and drank alot, which totally fucked up the Serotonin levels in my brain. My meds make me feel that happy feeling right after you drop a hit of acid without going over the edge to the darkness.

  • I managed to kick my SSRI habit with the help of LSD.

  • @notvisconti awesome. I just went cold turkey.

  • @notvisconti Good for you!

  • Alright,

This song makes me want to punch a baby,

    I love it!

  • Best compliment ever!

  • facking serious

  • It was quirky. Whether you hated or liked the song... I liked the odd response.

  • @abciance vagina

  • @drplbiftin

    yaaaack

  • damn

  • I`m feeling pretty shitty now. Nice song!

  • I'm glad someone uploaded this song, it has been a favorite of mine for years! Awesome to listen to when you're feeling shitty.

  • Michael Gira played this as his closing song when he played a solo accoustic concert in Vienna in December 2008 at the jazz/accoustic/electronic Bluebird festival - Overwhelming, certainly "won over" the curious in the varied audience who had never heard of him or Swans previously...

  • beautiful song, cant listen to it without drinking and crying. pathetic i know but thems the breaks so blah!!!

  • Are you fucking serious? The first time i heard this song i clearly heard every word he said.

  • God damn the sun indeed

  • Baha, love the tags and smile comment. This song is so depressing... but god damnit its brilliant. love it.

  • This brings tears to my eyes. Unbelievably emotional and raw, and a work of art.

  • Thanks, love this song...love your "smile on your face comment"!

  • definitely the saddest song in the world, I actually was looking for the saddest Verve song and then remebered this JE JE beautiful sadness eh

  • for many many years somehow the song became the most important in my life

  • Well, I don't really like the song, but the lyrics are fantastic.

  • if you like this one check out jane mary cry one tear

  • Then go back to listening to dragonforce and finger banging your fur-fag mallcore friends you fourteen year old mental midget.

  • I second that tenfold. Though I pity this poor insipid fool for not having the capability of appreciating a musical gem.

  • @Stimutacbob Mate. Fair play to you. But it probably isn't his fault. I'm into death metal, black metal. Grindcore. and Meshuggah. And this stuff? I fucking love. It chills your soul out. I'm a big music man. And I think I speak for all of us when I say. Quality song!

  • @Stimutacbob I don't know who that was at but I laughed my ass off. :)

  • @Stimutacbob fur-fag mallcore friends

    rofl hahaha

  • Godlike.....

  • this song is little pesimistic but its thruly honist...

yes i belive in Giras hands... :)

  • haha i like your modesty ;)))

  • When I saw Michael Gira live he played this. So fucking incredible, the best live song I have ever seen. He also played "I Crawled" which was awesome.

  • Michael Gira is fucking brilliant.

  • fucking brilliant

  • chek out urma

  • i like the version from manufactura more

  • Yeah, I like the manufactura one too, but I like Gira's vocals better.

  • Swans are truely a great band.

  • And you know gay better than anyone else...

  • We need people like this fool in order to differentiate ourselves and our good taste in Micheal Gira, its all good. Let him listen to Oasis and masturbate in his own filth.

  • @silentninla2 this tune doesn't refer to homosexuality, fag.

  • God Damn The Sun

    God Damn The Sun

God Damn The Light It Shines

    And This World It Shows

    God Damn The Sun

  • And They Found My Letter Rolled Up In Your Pocket Where I Said I'd Kill Myself If She Left Me Again So Now She's Gone And You're Both In My Mind I've Got One Thing To Say Before I Am Drunk Again: God Damn The Sun God Damn The Sun God Damn Anyone That Says A Kind Word
  • My Only True Friends And I'll Keep Them With Me Until The Very End) I'd Choose Not To Remember But I Miss Your Arrogance And I Need Your Intelligence And Your Hate For Authority But Now You're Gone I Read It Today They Found You In Spain Face Down In The Street With A Bottle In Your Hand And A Wild Smile On Your Face And A Knife In Your Back You Died In A Foreign Land
  • When, When We Were Young We Had No History So Nothing To Lose Meant We Could Choose Choose What We Wanted Then Without Any Fear Or Thought Of Revenge But Then You Grew Old And I Lost My Ambition So I Gained An Addiction To Drink And Depression (They Are Mine
  • I'm putting a shotgun in my mouth as we speak so I'm getting a kick out of these replies.

  • This song is made of God and Win.

I've searched for the album for a long time now. I gave up after a while and started drinking. Great finding this stuff on youtube.

  • The tags are HILARIOUS. "kittens."

  • this is a work of genius

  • brilliant!

  • Best song ever

  • Classic. period.

  • god damn the sun

  • LOL! Its so depressing it comes out on the other side and becomes funny!

  • Yeah I kind of feel that way. I love this song, but everytime he gets to the bit "...I said I'd kill myself if she left me again. So now she's gone..." I always smile. I don't exactly know why.

  • fully beautiful because it's real - one piece of the human experience

  • i love this song!

"but now you're gone, i read it today, they found you in spain, face down in the street, with a bottle in your hand, and a wild smile on your face, and a knife in your back"...

  • hi audio, miss u, god damn the sun....

  • god bless the swans..

  • an amazing song

  • Happy Valentines Day Audio, couldn't have said it betta!!!! God Damn The Sun - Love You

  • If the complexity of this song is to depressing for you all then I suggest you listen to more poppy music such as....Britney Spears or better yet....Madonna. I'm from the generation that listened to bands such as Bauhaus, Joy Division and Sisters of Mercy. Scary sometimes is good!!!! The problem today is that there is a lack in any instrumentation and composing of any sorts. I think you have had to have been depressed at one point in your life to get this song.....period!

  • Bauhaus were not scary. Sissies of Mercy were not scary. Joy Division really depressed the shit out me. I haven't listened to them in over 25 years. This is cool though.

  • The depth of sadness this song evokes is too overwhelming at times. I have difficulty playing it on a acoustic guitar without feeling depressed

  • think ive heard this song 100 times quite scary actually good riddance:-)))

  • Great song from the band's lowest point.

  • cheers audio, love ya god damn the sun

  • cheester is my Goddess...GOD DAMN THE SUN!

  • god damn the sun

  • IT eases my pain

  • This song is sooo sad, Thanks for posting this... Swans are dead but yet they remain.

  • one of the most sad songs i´ve ever heard....

  • Wow, this has been a while. 10 years I believe.

Found happiness at the bottom of this pit.

    Memories.

For those new to these shores.....Tread carefully.
