  • Looks fun!

  • WOW!

    Great!

  • Were was the camera mounted? Nice vid.

  • Hello ... the camera was mounted on an old fiberglass hiking stick that projected forward of the forestay bridal (the aft end of the stick was fastened to the mast-base). I created a "shroud" attachment on the forward tip of the stick and torqued the tip down a bit to minimize the camera bouncing with the wave action. Then, through trial and error we positioned the camera to film us within its field of view (on starboard tack only).

  • thats a blast

  • That. Was. Crap. Hobies are much more fun than this

  • FUN! i love hobies

  • The smiles say it all.....

  • sweet.

  • Hey - y'all had a good time, and that's all that matters. Who cares what the on-lookers say. The world has enough judgement without coming down on a fellow sailor. We can't all be lucky enough to sail in Australia, but we are all lucky to be sailors.

  • Hmmmmm is thta the biggest youve got? You wouldnt even make it out past the kiddie sized waves at Torquay Australia

  • try doing that on a wave.. ITS SO SICK!

  • hmm 3ft not the biggest, 10ft? nice video all the same :)

  • im just salty because our hobie is out of commision.. due to the fact that we sailed it so hard.. then turtled.. saill is ripped and lost our jib.. mast had a leak in it...opps.. cant wait to get back out..

  • I can definitely relate! Hobies wear out quick when you sail them a lot and hard... but they sure are fun! Thanks for your comments.

  • @ModernGeographic I've had a hobie 16 since '85 up on georgian bay ontario. We take it apart piece by piece every winter to store it. Also its good to do it every 2months in warmer areas, than you can go over every part to make sure it is sea worthy. It takes my dad and I 3 hours to put it back together, including threading the tramp.

  • ummmmmmm. that was kinda shit...... were was the jump man... i do that every time i launch.. you guys need a better video.. but i love you

  • Hello jgravo19 ... it's a 3' wave ... that's what jumpin' a 3' wave looks like. When I have footage of us jumpin' a bigger wave, I'll put it up.

Also: Please note that we're 1/2 mile offshore, over shallow coral reefs. If the boat breaks in half (which sometimes happens to people on PR's northern reefs) the ocean currents might suck us out to sea.

With any claim to documented video, the analysis and appreciation often takes some careful and experienced review.

  • @ModernGeographic totally agree with that, some people should think before they post. nice schooling. haha

  • haha dude that wave was not 3m, false advertising

  • 3 ft fucken idiot

  • calm the fuck down looked like he said 3m

  • hahahahahahahaha

  • it didnt look like he said 3m he typed 3'

  • He did say 3', motorbikedemon58 needs to open his eyes and read better. Fail motorbikedemon58 you Fail.

  • looks fun

  • LOL. Awesome! Good vid. I sail a H20. Cats are the best!

  • hahahaha great....

  • awesome video!

Looking for a bit more excitement then my vanguard sunfish. Cats look like where the fun is at!

  • Multihull sailboats are a blast... very fast, very fun, and will warp anyone's sense of priorities.

Sail more... and if it ever gets boring, sail a Cat instead!

  • okay that's going out but how did you get back to the beach?

  • Hello...

On the day of this film the waves were quite small--around 2' to 3'... and surfing back through these waves is relatively easy... we simply sailed out into the open Atlantic, tacked, and rode whatever waves there were through the break-zone, eventually landing back on the beach.

Sometimes, the waves on this break are very large... 10' to 15' faces with three separate break-zones within the same reef. We've seen swells pile-up here, with a wall on both sides for a 1/4 mile.

  • sweeeet, thanks for a good clip.

    Best regards, NC, USA

  • Hola Paul,

Come on, next time do it in a 20+ knot breeze on the trapece, we all know you and your boat are insured ;-)

    Cheers from Holland

  • Hola Carlos!

We have a session tomorrow... forecast is for 20 knots from ENE. Just got in from surfing at Pine Grove--waves are building from an offshore storm--solid whitewater across the barrier reef. If we have good footage I'll post another--from the trapeeze is our goal!
