I think that this song could be about whatever you want it to be about. I don't think that he's specifically said that it's about shaving or self-harm. That's the awesome thing about music. It could have a different interpretation for every person, it's just what that person thinks about it.

I'm not a huge fan of IYH, but I think this is one of the Foos' most brilliant songs. It's the plainest song about a guy shaving every day, yet those simple lyrics can be misconstrued for so many other things. I'm not sure if creating these parallels was intentional or not, but the fact that waking up and shaving every morning can be so easily mistaken for physical harm or an allegory about relationships is really telling about how people read into things. It's really cool, and a little freaky.
