@iSoftware1234 yes you really do i got a cisco box and it runs flawless anddey gave my brother for his room a atlantic one whicc i think is 3300 or something like dat i would get one of those
in regards to why TWC "upgraded" (their words) the software - a district contractor supervisor (i was a contract slave, oops i mean contract installer for TWC) that the system is more user friendly (and installer friendly too), has a better GUI, loads quicker and is just generally "better" than the previous software..
HA...HAHAHAHH
yeah right
btw, channel 1900 (you have to key it in, its not in the guide) will display what the techs use to make sure the box will perform correctly. it can help
in regards to the vid - 'find shows' will show you the channel(s) and time(s) for all their programming. basically, it works when you have a movie or 2 or 3 on your mind that you have already been thinking about, then you would search through the lonnggg list to find it or go to the keyboard and key it in. then it will tell you the channel(s) and time(s) that that particular show is on for the next few days.
time warner is the biggest piece of shit ever. you can't even go to a certain date to see whats on that day because they installed this mystro crap. and also a lot of times when u pull up the guide it takes 10 seconds to open up because it has to "load". i have no idea why they changed their old format. bunch of morons running time warner
If your box is more than 5 years old and has these speed problems, it is time for a new box. Listed in order of pereference in terms of speed are the fastest boxes: DVR:- Any Samsung box. Lightning fast DVR- SA-8240-8300 (Non-C) Very good DVR-SA 8240-8300 (C) A little slow DVR-SA-8000. Way too slow, should be replaced Non-DVR models Any Samsung Box: Lighning Fast SA-4000:Very Fast SA-3000 OK SA-2000 and Below: Slow Any Pioneer Box: Forget it! Hope this helps!
I agree.. I am still waiting on my business class internet to be fixed. It has been down for like a week and a half now, about 20 phone calls and waiting on hold and.... please wait...... loading data..... please press 2 if you are really pissed off....
Just got this new menu crap 2 hours ago, IT SUCKS!!!!!!
Every channel I go to the picture size changes, time warner comes up with this lame (~duh~) explanation..... "the show you are watching was not filmed in hi-def" ummmm ,no shit sherlock...... It's slow, looks like it was designed for a 2 year old....
Uh... Part 15 of FCC Rules states that(if you look at the bottom of your cable box you'll see this) "This device must accept any interference recieved, harmful or not". So we don't really have a choice. Unless you want to get arrested.
They just gave us this Mystro crap a few nights ago. I kind of like the new look, but it seems buggy as hell. The menus are slow and jiggity, and every hour or two I have to go into the settings and change my volume from 'fixed'. Grr.
Mystro is coming everywhere now. What cable box did you have, an older SA Explorer 2xxx series? I recently got a 4xxx HD box so hopefully it can run it fast enough. I like how passport is very fast, but kind of old feeling compared to other EPG's.
I'm sorry but can someone tell me what the hell is Mystro? My TWC box started freezing up so I turned off the cable box, then a blue screen came up that said Mystro...?
Time-Warner never explained to its viewers why it cancelled Passport, a far superior system, to Mystro. To say Mystro is exponentially inferior would be an understatement. It lacks every single feature of Passport: the most basic one the ability to pre-program the cable box to go on and off on a certain channel at a predetermined time, to ensure the taping of a program. I can only surmise this was to save money, and I wrote the a scatching letter. Little good it did!
my second home had mystro installed and i had a problem where the startup channel qam would work but when changing channels, it would not appear. Having FiOS, this guide is ok but the Verizon guide is faster and easy to navigate. this sure does beat Cablevision's Guide, CV's SA boxes loaded very slow. Beside CV, the guide is slow by either having the box behind many splitters or there is a huge overload in your grid; which is why FiOS is what I prefer by this issue.
I've often wondered how hard it must be to make a useful channel guide. I mean, it really must take a flock of geniuses to put shows into categories, databases and such. I'm guessing there aren't people in this world who can possibly meet this challenge because it is so daunting.
Krop Failure.... Tried rebooting 6 times to no avail your advice is weak.....
Plus you sound like an average jerk-off Time Warner representative blame the consumer with some snotty holier than thou attitude and then insult them. Well it's not the consumers fault it's the idiots peddling lies of top quality service
@ everyone..ok everyone I just got timewarner cable installed and the picture was horrible.. yeah let me add that i have this new software that your all talking about, and for me since the timewarner cable rep forgot, yeah you guessed it,forgot to bring the hdmi box i had to use componet cables..ok i fixed it .. go to settings on remote, scroll over to display, select picture size, then scroll down to aspect ratio and select 16x9,next scroll down to output resolution and select 720p or 1081 then save
@jcomputerguy09 I think we were referring to the overall difference in quality between Mystro and Time-Warner's old, and clearly superior, Passport system. I for one am still in mourning for the loss of Passport. TMC saved a ton of $ by switching to Mystro - this cheap piece of S*** - then had the brass ones to raise its fees. What a surprise, ay!
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Try rebooting your box dumbass. . . 9/10 times that fixes the the delay and the lack of program information. Wow, so this is the average consumer. . .
I have a Samsung HD box and it doesn't have to be rebooted. Mine has much nicer graphics. The newer boxes run it better than the older ones. The Samsung came out recently and it runs it good enough.
Mystro has gotten much much better. They rolled it out by me in 2007, and it was SLOW and trashly, buggy as hell, the HD channels wouldnt switch resolutions correctly, tons of problems. I got tivo hd for 2.5 years, and now tivo hd is having problems with the new switch access channels, on no nhl center ice with tivo...a week ago we decided to try the hd dvr again with mystro, and we are pleasently suprised. the search feature isnt bad, its faster, can look at guide while watching ecording etc
This is the biggest piece of shit ever foisted on TWC customers! It is slower than shit rolling uphill, it arbitrarily cancels programs you had scheduled to record (set top box was unable to record this show??)! wtf!!
$120 a month for more aggravation than anyone can stand! I'm leaving asap, goodbye twc, you piece of crap!
Makes you wonder why lots of big MSOs don't use Passport. Comcast's iGuide stinks, and TWC MDN/ODN seems bad, too. Passport is freakin' good, why don't these MSOs get it?
Mystro stinks!!!Menu is missing all the advantages the old menu had, such as clicking on current show and seeing instantly all future showings, or searching for a favorite actor or actress,by name, and seeing what shows they are in that week, details of the show you are watching are sorely limited in the info button( major actors starring in show),wakeup alarm cannot be programmed for the week, only daily...plus many more that we no longer have...please bring back the old (PowerTV?) menu TWC!!!
I will take a chance on MYSTRO any day over the sara software that is so butt ugly. Sara's look scream's look what i can do with a ruler an a take your pick of a crayola crayon !!!!
I hate Mystro. I can't sort saved shows in the order I want them - a feature I used all the time before. The old system was MUCH better. The tweaks in the new program have made things WORSE.
RCN uses Passport so you'll feel right at home. They seem to have a bunch of HD channels thanks to them eliminating a crap load of analog channels. Just the basic channels are analog. Expanded Basic though is digital.
In 2 weeks of use, it has failed to record 4 shows I have set as scheduled. A 5th one started 5 minutes late. Rewinding to a particular scene is horrid. The time length bar is not helpful. You can no longer get a full screen after pausing because the program title sits on the bottom of your screen. All minor inconveniences sure, but a total downgrade from what I previously had, yet I'm sure my cable bill won't be adjusted downward.
Lol. The tv in my moms room just went out and now on the screen there's something call Mystro. My tv in my room is fine. Oh gosh, is mine next? This is scary because I dunno what they're doing to our cable. We have TWC Brooklyn.
They changed the color scheme and it's much better. It's still not optimized for those old Pioneer or SA SD boxes from several years ago. I recommend you swap it for a newer HD box since they have better specs to run MDN. MDN does run better on the 8300HD and the 3250HD box. I did hear that TWC cleared some code in the BFS so that the old pioneer and SA boxes could run it better but a box swap is the best option.
hey I understand But you guys are a little over the top because sometimes you people call, we assist you, but you always complaint!!! and the best part is that you guys call in and you take it over us (the agents) and one more thing you people have like 200 chnnls and complaint for 2 or 3 missing
The only good thing for the piece of crap software Mystro is is it's reduced my TV watching by about 7 hours, especially when it crashes every few days.
Hah. I just tried to change channels; box crashed. Couldn't hard-restart it with the power button on the box, had to UNPLUG IT to restart it. 20 minutes later, the damn software finished loading, then crashed again.
Well, if nothing else, AOL Time Warner Weyland Yutani has made me all but stop watching TV. At this rate, I may as well cancel service, because I'm obviously not getting any of that.
Time Warner is working on new OCAP boxes. They also changed the look of the software. Our division has the latest versions of Navigator. The new Samsung HD-DVR will probably come out later in the year. Maybe 1st half of 09.
I have the same Mystro garbage here in Central Florida on Bright House (Dim Shack?). There is a gigantic rubber band attached to all the buttons on the remote... you press anything and it takes 5 seconds to respond, literally. And forget about changing channels, it takes a lifetime. Why should we pay so much for such crap? I'm a software engineer, and I could not imagine programming trash and allowing it to be released, even as Beta. AT&T is unveiling a much faster service, and I might switch.
there slow becuz of the type network its on at cable companys if time warner would upgrade its actual network to faster data transfer menus will oad 5 times faster
I hate Mystro, I truly do. I miss being able to search for shows. Instead, I have to hit the "keyboard" search and it never finds anything. What also drives me up the wall is that I can never go to a show that's airing at a later time (Usually the next 30 minute block). I'm forced to put a reminder on it or skip it. That means popping in the channel number to get to the channel.
Have you replaced your box with a newer model? Any updates on your Navigator? The newer boxes are MUCH faster than this. The old Pioneer boxes don't have enough memory. Non DVR users should swap your boxes for the newest model of an SA box. DVR users should get an 8300 box if you have guide speed problems.
the amount of time it has to load things that i assume should be cached, is amazing to me. plus most of the shows listed in that menu, don't have any show times when you actually try to watch them, plus after you click one it takes a minute to tell you theres nothing. anmd most of the time my VOD service doesn't work. i remember when i first got this software (which was 4 months before the other 2 boxes in our apartment, VOD movies would start then about a minute in would stop.
Why the hell does TW replace a decent menuing system with a shitty one? Well, I don't have this new Mystro crap, but if I had to guess, they are pushing it onto subscribers because it probably features new ways for them to market advertising . . .
Why don't they just let Google design the interface . . . it would be simple, fast and effective.
I have noticed that mine takes a second or two the first time I hit guide, a or b buttons to load the program info, but nothing remotely close to that long. Every time after that it doesn't even have to think about it. I have a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 box...not sure if that is good or bad. I don't know how to check the software number so I couldn't tell you that one. Would like to compare notes though.
Let me know I am curious. Mine is a "Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 Digital Home Communications Terminal". It says on the bottom it was made in Feb. 1999, but I don't know if that is considered a new box or old box. It would be cool to compare one box to another one.
The latest boxes is the 4250HDC and 8300HDC for SA/Cisco netowrks. Go to your local division and get a new HD box. They are much better. They do work on SDTV's. Just set the aspect ratio to 4x3 and the output to 480i in the menus. Hope this helps.
Actually their latest box is an 8550HDC...I saw it at CES back at the beginning of the year. What would the benefit of an HD box be for watching SDTV? Theoretically taking a signal that is 2,073,600 pixels and down converting it into a signal that is 307,200 pixels for use on an SDTV would give you a not as good of a picture as going from SD to SD since one number does not go into the other one leaving the picture slightly more distorted. Use SD boxes with SDTV sets for a better SD signal.
No the image quality is the same. The benefit is that Time Warner won't have to stock SD boxes. By only carrying HD boxes they can save a lot of money on tech support. You can also watch downverted HD channels on an SDTV. Some TV's like my rounded panasonic tube combo have severe overscan :(. It's still not a bad deal. The 8300/8240 series are starting end of life. So is the 4240/4250 series.
My friend has an SD box that is an 8300. I would have to agree that they are probably only buying HD boxes, but I am sure they have SD boxes lying around. Everyone with SD should go get an HDTV anyways cause the difference is amazing.
No, they installed the shitty _software_ on the hardware I already had. The Mystro bloatware works better on more modern hardware, but the navigation still sucks.
A new mystro update is out. 2.4.10_11 for the OCAP boxes aka HDC boxes or plain C boxes. 2.4.1-107 is for the non OCAP boxes. It fixes a bunch of stuff. New cable boxes from Samsung and Cisco will run Mystro ODN much better. The new boxes will have the guide in Widescreen which the current ones can't do that.
I swapped my old pioneer box for the SA 3250HDC. The 3250HDC was replaced with an 8300HDC.
and I thought mine 8300 was slow. I hate it, I don't know why the genius's at Time-Warner thought they could develop software on their own that would work. I really liked the system software we had before this junk.
I got mine on the SA 8300 DVR and the speed is ok. (at least for my DVR.) The older boxes are very very slow because they have the least memory to run the new software. The main problems that I have with mine are that sometimes shows are listed multiple times on channel numbers that don't exist. There is also no "View This Channel Now" when taking action on a future show. The search option also shows too much information at once. I am not a fan of the interface either. It just looks old.
I have terrible issues withn the new Mystro software. My box reboots for no reason in midlde of shows. drop the on demand movies in the middle, and lost track of where it was.
well, I've been using it for a while now... and I know for a fact that mystro has more than a few bugs to be worked out... I have 2 shows in my list that have the names 'unknown 1' and 2, some of my shows put the recorded date at 12/31 for some reason, and others have the channel # listed as 65535, also my box has restarted 3 times and I occasionaly get a broken up/distorted menus -- on the plus side, I do like the % of space used up and conflicts menu, tho! :P
So, I'm sitting here at 3am, and my cable goes out, once I realize that it's updated the os to mystro, I decided to look into it. (I currently have a blue screen that says it's converting my show's video format)... and I gotta tell you, this is just SO the time warner experience! I haven't even used the new software yet, and I already feel queasy... I'd much rather have a powerful os than a pretty one (hint hint- microsoft)... ah well, maybe I'll make a myth tv box...
Mystro is nice but very slow. Time Warner is working on fixing it but still. Thankfully my old legacy pioneer box in my room still has passport. The passport software is much better on the old Pioneer box than the SA boxes with Mystro. Our first SA HD box used to have the old software but was switched to mystro. The other an OCAP box had it before they updated it. The program uses JAVA so thats why it's slow. They have notified people about it.
The "Find Shows" feature of Mystro is worthless, as I think I have shown. Does that feature works the same with your SA HD box? And, if it's slow (even on your SA HD), it's not nice. The software does not need to be fixed, it needs to be replaced ... especially if it's written in Java!
Yes it's quite slow on the SA boxes. I have 2 SA HD boxes and a Pioneer SD box. Pioneer no longer support or make their boxes any more. Suprisingly the Find Shows feature was working today and the Pioneer box looks just like your interface. Well the gui is nice but slow. Just an update.

The only good thing for the piece of crap software Mystro is is it's reduced my TV watching by about 7 hours, especially when it crashes every few days.
Rymac91 3 years ago
Xiado 3 years ago
Time Warner is working on new OCAP boxes. They also changed the look of the software. Our division has the latest versions of Navigator. The new Samsung HD-DVR will probably come out later in the year. Maybe 1st half of 09.

cable in the lower 48 sucks gci cable here in alaska i like

I have the same Mystro garbage here in Central Florida on Bright House (Dim Shack?). There is a gigantic rubber band attached to all the buttons on the remote... you press anything and it takes 5 seconds to respond, literally. And forget about changing channels, it takes a lifetime. Why should we pay so much for such crap? I'm a software engineer, and I could not imagine programming trash and allowing it to be released, even as Beta. AT&T is unveiling a much faster service, and I might switch.

I hate digital cable and how slow the on-screen menuing systems are.
The programming isn't that great either.
Andromed Strain....Isn't that the movie that A&E shows every now and then? Boring...

Dude just get AT&T U-Verse if u can
TurnerKitty 3 years ago
Have you replaced your box with a newer model? Any updates on your Navigator? The newer boxes are MUCH faster than this. The old Pioneer boxes don't have enough memory. Non DVR users should swap your boxes for the newest model of an SA box. DVR users should get an 8300 box if you have guide speed problems.
JackPlatt 3 years ago
the amount of time it has to load things that i assume should be cached, is amazing to me. plus most of the shows listed in that menu, don't have any show times when you actually try to watch them, plus after you click one it takes a minute to tell you theres nothing. anmd most of the time my VOD service doesn't work. i remember when i first got this software (which was 4 months before the other 2 boxes in our apartment, VOD movies would start then about a minute in would stop.
lacent 3 years ago
Why the hell does TW replace a decent menuing system with a shitty one? Well, I don't have this new Mystro crap, but if I had to guess, they are pushing it onto subscribers because it probably features new ways for them to market advertising . . .
Why don't they just let Google design the interface . . . it would be simple, fast and effective.
I HATE TWC.

Just a side note...is that an episode of Car Crazy with Barry Mequire?
travelbytommy 3 years ago
I have noticed that mine takes a second or two the first time I hit guide, a or b buttons to load the program info, but nothing remotely close to that long. Every time after that it doesn't even have to think about it. I have a Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 box...not sure if that is good or bad. I don't know how to check the software number so I couldn't tell you that one. Would like to compare notes though.
travelbytommy 3 years ago
Well, I can't do it because I can't get it until November. Oh, well...
dnlhern 3 years ago
There is something wrong with your box dude. Mine takes like a second.
travelbytommy 3 years ago
I think it's that he has a old cable box and the old ones don't have enough memory... I gotta see, I'm getting a new cable box tomorrow.
dnlhern 3 years ago
Let me know I am curious. Mine is a "Scientific Atlanta Explorer 2000 Digital Home Communications Terminal". It says on the bottom it was made in Feb. 1999, but I don't know if that is considered a new box or old box. It would be cool to compare one box to another one.
travelbytommy 3 years ago
The latest boxes is the 4250HDC and 8300HDC for SA/Cisco netowrks. Go to your local division and get a new HD box. They are much better. They do work on SDTV's. Just set the aspect ratio to 4x3 and the output to 480i in the menus. Hope this helps.
rendezvous65 3 years ago
Actually their latest box is an 8550HDC...I saw it at CES back at the beginning of the year. What would the benefit of an HD box be for watching SDTV? Theoretically taking a signal that is 2,073,600 pixels and down converting it into a signal that is 307,200 pixels for use on an SDTV would give you a not as good of a picture as going from SD to SD since one number does not go into the other one leaving the picture slightly more distorted. Use SD boxes with SDTV sets for a better SD signal.
travelbytommy 3 years ago
No the image quality is the same. The benefit is that Time Warner won't have to stock SD boxes. By only carrying HD boxes they can save a lot of money on tech support. You can also watch downverted HD channels on an SDTV. Some TV's like my rounded panasonic tube combo have severe overscan :(. It's still not a bad deal. The 8300/8240 series are starting end of life. So is the 4240/4250 series.
rendezvous65 3 years ago
My friend has an SD box that is an 8300. I would have to agree that they are probably only buying HD boxes, but I am sure they have SD boxes lying around. Everyone with SD should go get an HDTV anyways cause the difference is amazing.

So who wants number 2.4.1-107 on their TV screen ALL THE TIME with "time worser" cable connections.
Meadsol32 3 years ago
They just broke into your house & installed that shitty hardware?
Jacklistener 3 years ago
No, they installed the shitty _software_ on the hardware I already had. The Mystro bloatware works better on more modern hardware, but the navigation still sucks.
nudeanaglyphs 3 years ago
A new mystro update is out. 2.4.10_11 for the OCAP boxes aka HDC boxes or plain C boxes. 2.4.1-107 is for the non OCAP boxes. It fixes a bunch of stuff. New cable boxes from Samsung and Cisco will run Mystro ODN much better. The new boxes will have the guide in Widescreen which the current ones can't do that.
I swapped my old pioneer box for the SA 3250HDC. The 3250HDC was replaced with an 8300HDC.
Hope this helps.

UGH seriously
what were they thinking?!
the other menu/navigator worked just fine!
i would search by letter. i could preview a summary on another channel without actually switching to it.
now everything just cuts off!!

and I thought mine 8300 was slow. I hate it, I don't know why the genius's at Time-Warner thought they could develop software on their own that would work. I really liked the system software we had before this junk.

Thats funny stuff. I experience the same shit. "Whoops- its loading data again" Heh.
LazyLightning66 3 years ago
I got mine on the SA 8300 DVR and the speed is ok. (at least for my DVR.) The older boxes are very very slow because they have the least memory to run the new software. The main problems that I have with mine are that sometimes shows are listed multiple times on channel numbers that don't exist. There is also no "View This Channel Now" when taking action on a future show. The search option also shows too much information at once. I am not a fan of the interface either. It just looks old.
JackPlatt 3 years ago
Same thing here. When I turn the cable box on it randomly reboots Mystro then I get to have fun watching it take 2-5 minutes to load.

y dousnt my findig shows thing work?

I have terrible issues withn the new Mystro software. My box reboots for no reason in midlde of shows. drop the on demand movies in the middle, and lost track of where it was.
This is the worst piece of #@# ever!
phuguet68 3 years ago
well, I've been using it for a while now... and I know for a fact that mystro has more than a few bugs to be worked out...

I'd much rather have a powerful os than a pretty one (hint hint- microsoft)... ah well, maybe I'll make a myth tv box...
truthisalie10x04 3 years ago
i think the mystro is a windows vista thingy...LINUX bro LINUX time warner needs to have everything on linux...
rzsigray1 3 years ago
In fact it now a unix box... Used to be a windows box but I guess the bugs are caused by bad programmers not the OS

LMAO That sucks! I think my area is getting it soon (NE OHIO). I hope they can get the bugs worked out soon.

They have notified people about it.
rendezvous65 4 years ago
The "Find Shows" feature of Mystro is worthless, as I think I have shown. Does that feature works the same with your SA HD box? And, if it's slow (even on your SA HD), it's not nice. The software does not need to be fixed, it needs to be replaced ... especially if it's written in Java!
nudeanaglyphs 4 years ago
Yes it's quite slow on the SA boxes. I have 2 SA HD boxes and a Pioneer SD box. Pioneer no longer support or make their boxes any more. Suprisingly the Find Shows feature was working today and the Pioneer box looks just like your interface. Well the gui is nice but slow. Just an update.
