Automobiles account for about 44% of the consumption of oil in this country. The average gas mileage of a vehicle on the road today is about 20 MPG. This is atrocious when you consider there are technologies that can improve the gas mileage of automobiles by 100-200%. But these technologies are owned and patented by auto manufacturers and the oil industry. I.E. they will never see the light of day unless government regulation forces the auto industry to a higher standard. this is unlikely.
I used to make the same claim that Louis made until I realized most of my trips in a day are well below the range of those cars on a single charge. Electric would probably make for a good second car; although for me it would make a good primary car.
Also, people claim that electric is just as bad as gas; however, it's only because most of our power comes from (heavily subsidized) coal, and it's only a matter of replacing or applying clean, alternative energy onto the grid.
I drive a bike because the jobs available and their current wages are not enough for me to afford a yuppiemobile. And, if I got a better job, the extra wages that should go for a car would be garnished to pay for those student loans that aren't serving me any purpose.
The newer Gas/Electrical Hybrids are a good start. Keep setting the bar higher over time. Hell even GM is making a decent Hybrid these days. 40MPG is a good starting point. The prices of gasoline aren't EVER going to fall below $4.00 a gallon again. Time to smarten up America or spend a full weeks pay on gas. Go to Europe and see what they pay for Gasoline/Deisel fuel. You'll NEVER complain again (laughs).
We have P.V powering our 1974 ev car and it so is cool.. If we want to go a distance we catch a train or use our 1999.. 90 M.P.G simple cycle car the Axiam with 50% local bio-diesel 40p a litre, 50% Free wast chip fat nearly 200 M.P.G.
We have proved you do not have to drive a disposable crap new car running highly TOXIC fuel. We save lots of money that otherwise the oil-car company's would use to kill our world..
I bought a car that gets 35 mpg instead and payed way less. I think we should be selling more diesels here in the us of hybrids. The 2011 kia rio diesel in the IK gets 88 mpg.
I drive a SS or a G8 as they're called in the US. Roads are to long and open where i live. I'd kill one of them in a few months. Can you even tow with one? Great if you live in the city, but then you'd just take public transport.
I like the idea of full electric but there's no real push to market these. With a solar set up to feed it that would be awesome.
Hybrids? Meh no thanks they have way too many issues.
Besides I blow any of these things into the weeds with my beast Muahahaha!
@TheYouthHeroic A majority of our oil use is from transportation, not power. It makes more sense to find a way to make our oil use due to transportation more efficient versus making our electricity usage more efficient.
@OliverJohnnyRyan That would be splendid, if everyone had the money to do so. I believe America should take much bigger steps toward clean energy, so that prices of energy go down across the board, and the car decisions become much easier to make for the average consumer.
@sewbuttns lol.. u r kidding I hope.. it's a big scam..they drag the case out for yrs so they can bill for 1000's of hours of so called work on the case...u r either a lawyer or u have no idea what the law suit business is about
@xadam2dudex No they usually take a certain percentage of the winnings whatever it amounts to and if they lose they take nothing. It's the corporate lawyers you're talking about that bill by the hour.
@sewbuttns in these class action lawsuits they bill by the hour as well...that is why some of the lawyers suing the Tobacco industry collected over a billion dollars in fees ... in a normal individual lawsuit they do usually charge a percentage ( 33% ) of the court awarded settlement
@xadam2dudex I would still rather the lawyers have that billion dollars than the company being sued. Atleast the lawyers are doing something constructive for society whereas most of the corporations being sued are guilty of killing people or making false claims, and have done nothing to justify their huge profits.
we pollute toomuch still producing electricity, its not worth trying to use electricity in your car especially if it doesnt save you that much gas, when most of our electricity is produced trough wind water and nuclear, then sure we can start looking for electric cars
The point is NOT gas mileage but emissions. Granted the pollution in manufacturing is basically the same as a conventional vehicle. Imagine the pollution level if just half of the cars on the road were hybrids.
I'd buy an electric car for sure. I had a Honda Fit (until some asshole ran into me) that got nearly 40 mpg and only had a 9 gallon tank. Needless to say, the Honda Fit was nice to fill up... didn't need as much and rarely filled it up b/c of gas mileage. And you could get better mileage depending on how you drive it.
The thing is, you just need to invest, invest, invest in this shit. It's going to cost money to get thing chugging along properly.
this is a ha bisky upload and i think it depends on the type of hybrid car my grandfather got one when they first came out and it works well for him and this is a ha bisky upload
Well my major beef with Hybrids before was that fact the even if you did save in gas, you're paying twice as much on the car anyway so it's not even worth it financially speaking. But from what you're saying, it's not worth it environmentally speaking either. It seems like its all a big waste of time and money.
Before even watching this video, I am going to say: Hybrid.
Electric car is for short distance only because you need to recharge it every day. In order to do that you need a garage and if you want to recharge faster (20 min), you need to ask PG&E for a special power connection. Also electric cars are more expensive and you need to get the battery located at the bottom of your car changed. Therefore a normal garage cannot do it.
Hybrid? NO. Electric YES but only when a quick charge system is developed and charging stations are as plentiful as gas stations. In the mean time, I'll stick with my current 27 city-34 hwy (lower in winter of course) car.
It would be cheaper than a gas-guzzler so I'd probably buy an electric car! I don't drive extremely long distances anyway.
