(Popular tune on the north shore of Boston because of it ) I have heard. ( I also heard there was a Staten Island off of Scotland . SO many great stories . Im shore they all are true !!! Of course this tune refers to the Staten Island off the coast of South America. During sailing days if the island was spotted you could be sure you'd make it around cape horn. Or so they say.

No one knows which Staten Island it refers to. Don't forget that Staten Island, NY was a major base for the British troops during the Revolution, so an equally valid theory is that the tune originated here during that time.

Yeah thats the Staten Island ferry, cant quite make out the Statue of Liberty at this resolution...
