I seem to remember this scene having more dialogue. The seer had something to say about both the mantle and the sword (the mantle was so that "he may know who he serves" and the "wailing doom" was to "ignite his battle lust" I think). Why doesn't this scene have all that? Recording glitch?  Was that only in the beta? Am I just remembering wrong?

Looking back at it this scene is incredibly fluff-accurate, with the blood/cup of criel, the weapon, the cloak -- everything.

ironically, the only thing they seem to have gotten wrong was Eldrad Ulthran being from Iyanden or something. He's even got the paintjob of an Iyanden seer

Is this video taken from the copy of the actual game or is it from some other source (such as video file downloaded from Internet)? This video has some minor differences when compared to the version found at least in my copy of European release (some of these differences were already pointed out by Coralenthacor). Different scream, more speech and the screen actually shakes when Avatar of Khaine emerges from the shrine in the end.

@DamoclesAlpha Wouldn;t be the case of a floppy version versus a CD version? I am in England, and have a UK copy so will have to load it up and check! :)

@HardWarUK As far as I know, this game was released only on CD. It may be that the last WH40000 video game released on floppies for PC was EA's excellent adaptation of Space Hulk, which was originally published in 1993. However, it did get also a CD release, which had some additional missions.

i would think they can communicate in any linguistic form, but i highly coubt they dont have a linguistic lineage of their own that they wouldnt use in their ceremonies. especially for high gothic.. its like writing the US constitution in Russian not to mention the eldar condescending attitude.

this conversation is kinda trivial given high gothic is as real the eldars but since you replied... its hardly necessary to present the actual meaning of what they are saying, as the video progresses the meaning becomes fairly evident. at best it was done so a peson new to 40k will have an idea of whats going on. as for the last part, High gothic is used by the imperium, eldar already see the humans as barbaric and inferior not to mention they are technically at war. this should clear it up.

@GDevourer As far as I know (the old Codex mentioned it) the Eldar do have children, but not often and it takes a long time for them to mature. Therefore, any loss of a life has a strong impact, since they don't "grow" new Eldar in tubes like the Dark Eldar do (now there's an idea!)

Hmm if memory serves its the craftworld of Ulthwé.

The farseer definitely reminds me of Eldrad Ulthran, and he was the head farseer of Ulthwé.

Don't hold me to it though was 9 years ago I played this game though I really think its Ulthwé.

Oh and they summoned the Avatar cause in the single player champaign they were getting their butts handed to them by the Imp. guard and space marines.

And the Tyranids showing up didn't help matters any.

Even the Eldar themselves don't know but according to 2nd ed Eldar codex fluff whenever the avatar emerges there is a new gem on it's armour so in a way yes.

This version of the intro is different to our version. In our one, when Eldrad opens his arms he calls "KHAILA MENSHA KHAINE - HE COMES TO YOU, AWAKEN AND ACCEPT THIS SACRIFICE!" and the scream is more tortured.
