I was home alone with my baby siblings when it hit, and I live right along highway 9. My brother was like "oh its not going to touch" until we saw it coming and were like "OH SHIT!"
I live in Little Axe, Oklahoma This tornado was the same one that stayed on the ground from Norman all the way past Tecumseh, and also hit towns East of there. It hit the Sonic at Hwy 9 and !80th right up the road from where I live, and took out the mobile home on the corner of 180th and Chapel Lane. The vortice missed my front door by about 100 but we still caught the debris cloud. If anyone has live footage of this, please contact me at scottsfoley1122@yahoo.com I will buy it
The tornado came to Tecumseh,Oklahoma where i live the tornado was forming right next to our house then it moved on highway 9!We were sooooooooooooooooo lucky! :D
What street intersection are you standing near? Is this a shot looking south from the Eastridge Addition? I live in South Lake. We had significant damage. I wonder if the debris funnel you can see in the video is the tornado that hit us?
@rdoliver: Eastridge neighborhood (Highway 9 and East 24th) looking south toward Highway 9. If South Lake is the development just south of Highway 9 and 24th, then yes, that's the one. We saw some of the damage it did, and it wasn't pretty. The video doesn't show it well, but we could see people's roofs and parts of houses flying around...just by looking at it, it was apparent that it did some serious damage.
My g/f and I were having dinner down in Mansfield, Tx. at that time. The wind there was gusting around 40mph! We looked north to OKC, and could see the massive anvil heads of the storms up there. That's when we heard of the outbreak. We have friends in OKC too. It missed them.
I was under this one when it hit on 84th and HWY 9 at the Sullivant Retreat Center...tore it up. We saw it as it pulled up water into it at Lake Thunderbird. Powerful storm.
nice Thunderbeam recording (the high pitched light looking siren near u at 24th and Imhoff.)
Anyway, glad you guys made it out OK. Norman hasn't ever had a tornado like this, at least in a long time. i cant wait to move from here (Denver) back to Mustang.
yeah... the major part of the tornado run of all of yesterday was in Norman/Thunderbird area. It was pretty wicked and there were several of little side twisters too it was pretty scary
great shot of the tornado man, i also live in norman off of hal muldrow rd, my mom almost got caught in that tornado cause she thought she could make it home, lost her back windshield
@mezzamerize: Yeah...there were lots of people outside in my neighborhood as well. Right at about 2:25 in the video, as soon as we start yelling "there's a tornado!", on the very right side of the screen you can see a family run inside their house.
I live off Hwy 9 & 12th. This came right behind my apt complex and ripped many trees out of the ground and snapped others. It sounded like a freight train and when it hit the area the entire apt shook. I have never been through anything like this before!
I used to live in Norman, a meteorologist, and watched it unfold on radar... quite crazy. Could you really make it out still as it became more of a wedge a few miles east of there?
The strong wind also matches the guesses of some meteorologists who got damage in the area... strong rear flank downdraft... you commonly see that happen with tornadoes.
@JeopardyTempest: I live a quarter mile north of the Highway 9 and East 24th Street intersection. I didn't see this develop into the full-blown barrel tornado that has been showing on the news...it faded into the black sky at the end of the video. We saw several funnel clouds lower, then raise back up before we starting filming this. What was interesting was that we never saw a distinct funnel cloud before the big one hit the ground...we just saw a debris cloud pop up out of nowhere.
that is fucking epic dude...i was born in Memphis, TN but moved to New England when i was 5, so i ain't used to tornadoes...all i know is if it were me i'd be headed for the hallway hahahaha
@Slick1119: Lived in both Texas and Oklahoma, and never seen anything like this before. We had the door open and were ready to jump inside if it got much worse.
@FSAddict1031 i remember being in a 3 tornado outbreak when i was a kid, but i wasn't scared then because, well, when you're young you kinda don't understand what's goin' on hahaha, i wish that were still the case
@2tur: We weren't hit bad at all...got very lucky. Some fences in the neighborhood went down, but that's about it. It looks downright nasty though where that tornado directly hit.

Dude, my apartment is right by y'all. Everyone went outside to watch as soon as the sirens sounded.
You know you're in Oklahoma when the neighbors go outside to watch the tornadoes whenever the warning sirens sound...
You know I've been in Oklahoma too long when I go outside to join them.
SAFETY FAIL.
