I don't think it was a mistake...

after combining, he was no longer Optimus Prime, so they picked a name from another transformer and used that for the combo name.

Armada was a great show, but you could always find a mistake, for example, the Ultra Magnus thing in here...

In the Original dub Overload is Ultra Magnus and Tidal Wave is Shockwave, but the charecters in Armada or Micron Legend wasnt that look familiar with the G1 charecters and so they change the names, plus Hasbro wanted the anime to aired sooner and the ressoults are in Armada version rushed and messed up names in dub and animation gliches.

In Micron Legend the dub is equal or better done and the gliches animations are gone and replace with far better animations ;)

Ultra Magnus? Shouldn't that be Overload then again his toy was remolded into to Ultra Magnus in Energon.
