  • He was a great attacking midfielder. A testamont to his ability was real madrid signing him back when it wasn't commonfor the big european teams to sign enflish players

  • Motson is the worst. But really no one stepped up to level a tackle on him. Poor defending really. Mcmanaman was pure class no doubt but he didn't train hard enough like giggs.

  • I'm a Leeds fan and when we were in the Champions League we played Real Madrid at home. They had Roberto Carlos, Figo, Raul, Guti, Casillas, Campo, and they played us off the pitch. But the man of the match that day was Steve McManaman who received a well deserved standing ovation and to this day it remains one of the best performances I have seen from a player, and if I could go back in time, I would happily pay to see that game again. A true lesson in how to play football.

  • as a rangers fan i could watch this all day long.well in mcmanaman.top goal from a top player.

  • i'm an arsenal fan...but i must admit macca is one from best english player of his generation...i wonder why hoddle not use him as first 11 at france 98...surely england will do better....

  • Comment removed

  • @nasrosicky Good point. I think it was because Hoddle was a dickhead and used to suck off "sick note" Darren Anderton...

  • legendary goal

  • Left footed finish... nice... :-D

  • Legends in Liverpool

  • I remember watching this as a kid and screaming the house down. You could feel the electricity whenever Steve got on the ball. This goal was amazing.

  • his first touch makes this goal

  • Steve is awesome! He always reminds me of Vincent Ventresca, though...

  • his first touch was velvet

  • Lol at 0.17

  • why is cantona's effort moe popular than this? i mean, mcmanaman carried the ball all by himself and beat the whole defence. cantona's goal is out-shadowed by this for me.

  • @MrRunforyourlife McManaman is a dirty little scouser that never won anything.

Cantona is a legend of the biggest club in the World.

  • @69salford69 you are ignorant.

  • @69salford69 McManaman won 2 European cups you tit.

  • @69salford69 what a moron

  • see the guy who sticks his fingers up at steve... unlucky m8 lol

  • I was at that game. Brilliant game. I kept saying to the Celtic players bring him down and they all stood off him.

    Oh well.

    Still a great game.

  • As they say in Ireland. YOU COULDN'T BEAT THAT WITH A BIG STICK. I remember shouting at the telly, coaching Mcmanaman in on goal. Great goal, great memory.

  • Ah... I must have been 12 when I watched this game. 2-2 right? Epic finish by McManaman. I'm sure I bought a replica version of his Umbro boots that very week! lol

  • Ah... I must have been 12 when I watched this game. 2-2 right? Epic finish by McManaman

  • Steve is my childhood hero too!!

    Greedings from Greece

    Liverpool 4 Ever! ! !

  • I love Macca too, here in Spain everyone loves him, he was/is such a gentleman and a great player. I think he is the only english player who have learn spanish in all history lol.

Sorry for my english, awesome goal.

  • i wonder why england didn't get the best of mcmanaman...? he only brilliance for england at euro 96...that's it...

  • Good goal made to look simple by Mac's greatest asset, finding space.

  • This guy was an absolute MONSTER of a winger! I will never understand why England had so many problems for wide left when we had this scouser knocking around. Liverpool really has produced some amazingly talented football players.(By Liverpool I mean the whole district, not just the one club, maybe it's something in the water? :p) Man United fan

  • Celtic nearly beat you, THANK FUCK! :)

  • Ah the good old days when the pool were attack minded and didnt care that much about conceding goals

  • what a first touch

  • was a good goal

but the fact that he ran quite far with the ball made it look better than it was in my opinion

  • hehehehehehehe the tims are sh!t :)

  • that goal not as good as i remember, terrible defending by Celtic

  • we could do with him now thats for sure

  • john motson is a clown

two words sum up john motson

    CAMEL COAT

  • Runs the length of the pitch, beats a handful of players and finishes superbly, and all Motson can say is..."it's there".

  • @Captaingerrard Please show me one british commentator that can do it like an italian or a southamerican.

    They're all the same.

  • jonathon pierce

  • @Captaingerrard The thing with Motty is he ruins out of breath so much in the game and is so old he cant come up with any great calls these days.

  • he was great, i loved him in real !

  • hell yeah he was natural gifted among the money gifted thats what made him stand out

  • I always thought the defending here was horrific !!

  • i thought mcmanaman was underrated big time, prehaps he could have scored a few more but he dominated teams, he ran them ragged

  • the only thing i remember about this goal was when the celtic fan was sticking his two fingers at steve mcmanaman after he scored.lol

  • that game was one of the best ever at celtic park

  • McManaman was never a right winger. He was an all round midfield player. Playing centrally, wing and more important was the floating role which he played so well. I remember seeing this live - one of the best renditions of you'll never walk alone was sung by both fans prior to kick off and that goal just summed up everything that was great about Macca!

  • That is probably the best goal I have ever seen by a Liverpool player!

  • you haven't watched liverpool play much then i suppose. well neway great goal.

  • McManaman & Torres upfront together wold have been a great partnership.

  • except mcmanaman was a right winger... LOL

  • great goal, sound as a pound, sound as a pound

  • English Kaka!

  • Steve McManaman...a Liverpool legend

  • its amazing to think we never came close to the title with players such as mcmanaman, fowler and owen, all fantastic players

  • Yer we did. Read fowlers biography, it explains all.

  • back then, the attack was great, but e defence was in a mess

  • With the likes of Babb, Harkness, Jones and Bjornebye in defence..we weren't looking to win any trophies any time soon!

  • @jpholmes7

We did you burk! 96 we were positioned first and fell away right at the end. Around that period we were damn good.

  • @jpholmes7

    Suarez, Gerrard.

Liverpool were better back then, than they are now. But there climbing there way back up,

  • what a pity, he,fowler and owen did not win the champions league together with Liverpool.Maybe owen could come back to liverpool and win the champions league with liverpool.

  • i know it wud have been great if liverpool won the champions league with the three...but atleast they won the treble 2gether plus stevie was also there....wish owen wud come back and liverpool win the league title and cl with him! that wud just be amazing!!

  • Put in an offer and we'll sell him.

I'll even drive him to Liverpool if you want.

  • chelsea tried to buy him after his 1st year at madrid. shame we didnt get him. he might of had a better england career if he had stayed in england.

  • He had a pretty good career in spain... won the league and champions league.

  • He's talking about the England international team, McManaman was never great for England

  • still hasn't been replaced!

  • I remember screaming the house down when macca scored that... awesome moment.

  • Macca rules - awesome goal!!!

  • Awesome goal, you can always tell a great player, when he runs with the ball, the ball is never more than a few inches away from him, this goal is pure class. If your a young player, watch this over and over....

  • sadly alot of young players do this naturally..its when the football coaches get hold of these young lads that they have it drummed out of them...its the coaching system that ruins their ability..that they had to begin with

  • You just said it... never realised this guy was so good.

  • @BD2Mafia yeah never more than a few inches away.. except for when he beat the first player and it was oh, 7 or 8 feet away

  • Steve McManaman is the best, to sad he was playing for the reds

  • One of the greatest dribblers the game has ever seen.

  • best player i ever seen

  • just can't agree more with you, efraolivares. Steve is the best, indeed.

  • fuck all of u! steve is the best and that's a great goal

  • da bambino era un mio idolo..!

  • Anche il mio......la mia prima maglietta originale fu quella del liverpool col suo nome lontano 1995

  • girfuys ya timmy basturds

  • that first touch was brilliant

  • My childhood hero too. I always tried to play like him, probably shouldn't try to do that, just be yourself. It's amazing that it was harder to catch him when he had the ball!

  • legend

  • have some of that celtic

  • amazin 1st touch :D

  • UR MOZZER"S PUSSY!!!

  • Magic, but Macca hasnt had a good word to say about liverpool since he left so he can fuck off!

  • it was a GREAT GOAL because no one could get NEAR HIM. Bigkingden you say he only had 'one half assed challenge made against him'.

HAHA no1 cud catch him. Mcmanman isnt LIGHTNING QUICK BUT HE IS ONE OF THE FASTEST AND MOST EFFICIENT DRIBBLERS OF THE TIME, I can run very fast but a HALF ASSED defender would probably catch me and most prem players even because he DRIBBLES SO GOOD!

An just like MHM 26 says 'it was an effortless dribble!

  • effortless because running in a straight line is.

well done on running very fast, maybe your the next mcmanaman, just as long as noody tackles you

  • That was a class goal...STFU

  • what a goal

  • Id like to see if you were able to run that fast whilst controlling the ball that well, whilst having the vision to see f*** all else availble for a pass, and have the shear bollocks to run that far and finish that well whilst one nil down... dont slag things off that you obviously have NO IDEA about and could not replicate. BRILLIANT GOAL.

  • His first took it past the 1st player, left him for dead, then he ran and ran, nobody could get near him...then he cuts inside, skins another player, then with 3 round him he cracks it from 25 yards out and leaves the keeper with no chance...maybe your watching a different video?? prick

  • A headless chicken? listen faggot you obviously dont understand football, so stfu, you retarded prick...who says its one of the all time greatest goals? you fooking sad cunt...NOBODY CARES WHAT YOU THINK, your opinion is irrelevant, because you have no clue...why are you the ONLY person iv heard say this is a bad goal...plz dont reply, faggot

  • So wank that he was instrumental in winning the European cup with the biggest club in the world Real Madrid.

Have a word with yourself you bitter fuckwit.

  • DUDE! TWO WORDS: LIVERPOOL ROCKS!!!

  • Great to see that against Celtic too! They stole your "Never Walk Alone" song too.

  • Class!

  • what a goal by one of the best effortless dribblers ever...he scored a similar goal in against everton...memorable goals

  • never hear much about this one do you! I remember this - one of the all time greats from my fav. player - 10 times the goal the little hairy prick giggs scored in '99 - which you see all the time - glad they lost on saturday!

  • your spot on macca had control all the way, spock was a headless chicken effort v a geriatric defence stuck in reverse and a keeper who dived an hour early.

  • the fact that his team was trailing, and its the 90th minute, he still has the energy to run that length, and uses his last strength to curl it beyond the goalkeeper. that itself is class!

  • correct he only really beat two players but that's only because none of them could catch him.

  • fucking hell david nugent done that last week, is he one of your 2 or 3?

  • How many players have you ever seen run so far and score without passing ? I've only ever seen 2 or 3.

  • well Riise is one against chelsea in C shield lol

  • Oh my God! He dribbled as many as TWO players! Or one and a half - the last one didn't seem to eager to stop him. WHAT AN ACHIEVMENT! THE BEST GOAL EVER! NOT! Poor defensive performance from Celtic - that is ALL.

  • pure class, but hate the man.

  • I will tell you one thing - for those who state that Macca could have been one of the very best - for me he was, he inspired me and whole life, that's why I couldn't be more grateful that he played this game - and he ruled that game!!! He will make a great coach, I'm sure of that!!

  • ha ha - what a goal, the selfish b@stard!!!

  • u r not nice

  • oh it was a joke - sheesh...

  • McManaman + Fowler

  • McManaman was a very good player, but he could have been a GREAT player: one of the very best.

  • couldn't agree more...

  • friggin hell jimmy traore has won a european cup by the way that real madrid team he played in was'nt bad you know

  • great goal but i think mcmanaman was'nt as good as he could of been

  • ARE YOU TRIPPING? HE WON TWO EUROPEAN CUPS!

  • Amazing! What a goal... what a player
