Filmed in a studio over the course of three days. The "quicksand" would set overnight and they had to loosen it up with water which is why it sometimes looks more fluid than at others. Also the first morning it was nice and warm but by the third afternoon it was absolutely freezing. All three actors teeth chattered between takes. It was only knee deep but so thick that there was very little "acting" involved, it was really that difficult to move in.
@chrisvscrispychicken Yeah! Some quicksands look like pools of poop and diarrhea. If we couldn't sink in that type of quicksands, it will be a good form to play or to make a joke.
As far as I can truly remember, mustardsucks, it is from "Ice Cold in Alex" (1958). A TRUE war classic from Britian... and yes, the quicksand itself is *rather* damn impressive indeed, I must say!!! :D !

in the movie they are attempting to cross the treacherous Qattara Depression, an area of desert lying below sea level which is boggy in the middle.
