I was watching this race live on TV when this happened. I knew after that impact that he gone. I felt a real sadness in my heart. I met Greg Moore when he ran in the Indy Lights series. He was a hell of a driver and a really nice guy.RIP.
attention sega. this crash is the same as gordon smiley becuase greg moore will not do this again because it is not good so is gordon smiley's crash but i wish gordon smiley was gordon smile
I was there in that race, the local screens only show us the replay once. Nobody in the grandstands knew anything, like 30 min after the accident a helicopter flew away from the track.
They let the race carry on and finish, just when all the people was ready for the podium(Adrian Fernandez won) we were told that greg moore was gone like 2 hours, the podium celebration was cancelled and nobody could belive it actually happenned.
I was at that race too, I remember i just happened to glance at the big screen and caught the end of the accident, I remember the Public Adress anouncers didnt say much and didnt indicate how severe it was until they made the announcement of his death. I had a radio scanner and put it on the espn broadcast and in between the commercials u can hear paul page parker johnstone and the espn producer talk about how they were making a tribute for him it was a very sad day.
@pablobasay i was there too! 8 years old, i sat on the exit of turn 4 and remember the race being red flagged and the yellow tarps on the back stretch
He was still in the cockpit of the car. His injuries weren't as spectacularly gory as Smiley's (I won't list them--too terrible), but he pretty much hit the wall with the top of his head and the car came to rest upside down. The chances of survival were pretty much nil.
Well considering there are more people behind the wall compared to what is in front of it. I would say that is true. He could have easily taken out 5 people compared to just Greg. Not saying that is right..Just what I think. He was so young. Wouldn't tires have helped soften the blow? *** Is there another view of this crash? That shows why he left the track.
there was absolutely nothing in front of the wall to absorb the crash the wall's sole purpose was to protect what's behind it from something incoming from the other side, it's design clearly stating that what's behind the wall is far more important than what's colliding with it ?????????
@plucaj Its a concrete wall but youre only going to crash one way on it if youre racing around an oval obviously. In america ther arent really safety barriers or tire walls set up on the inside of the tracks, who knows why. It is also unusual for a car to be going across the infield at such a high speed like Gregs car was. Its unfortunate because grass doesnt slow a race car down much. There is also a smaller circuit in the infield also. that may be why the wall is positioned like that
the design of that wall is absolute crap, in no way did it absorb any of the energy of the crash, that's absolute garbage they should have been sued for that.
No, he stayed inside the vehicle, I was there at the race, Adrian Fernandez won, there was no podium ceremony, they just announced his dead at the end of the race, on TV they said it during the event, at the track it was announced at the end of the race.
they lowered the trackside flags to half mast didnt they. cuz i remember montoyas radio being transmitted with him asking why the flags are down, "its greg isnt it" was his question...
i watched the whole race live, horrible horrible crash that marred an otherwise good race!
Yeah, I did notice the flags but I never thought it was for that, just afterward when we were talking about Greg and how sad it was I remembered the flags and realized why they did it.
then wizza,u have no clue what utube is about yet...ur choice to watch or not. it did not pop up in ur browser, you chose to see it. u tube is about freedom of choice. just like tv.
I remember when I was young, getting pictures and autographs from Greg, really awesome guy(from what I remember) R.I.P. Greg
