i was in charge of all things medical on that particular scene. 5 miles away the roads were clear and dry, a freak storm caused zero visibility and covered the roads in ice/snow in an extremely short period of time. The people just drove into a wall of snow.
I've seen the way people drive out here, this was inevitable...drivers in this area are true morons...."What, ice, snow, well, i'll set the old cruise control at 80 instead of 85 today"
Sometimes you'll be driving along and can't tell there is ice. We call it black ice because it is the same color as the road.
The ice will usually form first on bridges because they have cold under them as well, the roadways get it later because of the warming effcts of the soil under them.
there were actually more than 50 "involved" in the incident, buy many that were not damaged too badly just drove away. the police only counted the cars that were towed away in their "official" count.
Hell no, I live near Lapeer, most people around here can't drive and about 75% are always on their damn phone! For the first few dustings of snow people flip out. Forget about driving on M-24...most people Sane people will doing anything to avoid it.
I was in this snow storm and let me tell you, having driven in snow for a couple of decades, you still had no control even when driving very slow and cautious. My friend still hasn't recovered from his head injury.
I am pretty sure ppl in the north know how to drive in the snow, but add the freak loss of visibilty and no one can over come that. Chances are, there was a little ice involved too.
damn.. i didn't hear anything about that.. I live like 10 minutes away from where that happened.
