Hey man. I've been having some overheating issues with my ps3 as well. It's a launch 60gb. I was going to ask you do you know how hot the power supply is suppose to get? Mine gets SUPER hot. I mean like, you can burn yourself on it. I dunno if that's normal... I already applied new thermal paste and stuff but I dunno if that's good enough.
that is some awesome stuff bro!! glad that you were able to get it going again. Really good tip on the sensor and the new fan looks like it would pump out a ton more air. great to see another vid from you man
the overheating i would say is just dust. can't see how the paste could be the trouble unless they didn't put enough on. make a video of doing the other stuff?
@elcheapouno i have a computer from 2001 and don't seem to be having trouble with that. also i noticed the ps2 has this rubber stuff instead of paste. wonder how good that stuff is.
Just reflowed my 60gb model for the 4th time after ylod again. Applied new paste, thinking about adding washers to apply more pressure to the cpu and gpu. I broke my sensor cable too but cut it too short so got a new one cheap off the bay.
Great to see a new video from you :D. Love that backwards compatibility, shame not every PS3 has it. I'll look for that wire and treat it with care if I get a YLOD PS3. :)
I have a 40gig which is now an 80gig but i hope i don't have these issues. So far so good for about 5 months now though. It's a former ylod console so it scares me.
@elcheapouno i have reflowed it 7 times and each time only works for about a month until i added a new fan then it lasted 4 months. then reflowed and went with an even bigger fan and huge inlet for air and worked for 6 months. now it doesnt matter how many times i reflow it i believe its dead jim. i really dont play it. i play my 360's most so i am just going to put old yeller down pa LOL may get a slim if they get cheap.

@SignalNeverFades sup homes!
yeah, the power supply on the 60gb models get damn hot.
if you want, you can get yourself a 40gb power supply and
a 19 blade fan, that helps a lot.
I'll be posting a reflow/ thermal pasting vid soon to help some
people out..=)

@james42519
thermal paste drys and loses the ability to transfer heat to the spreaders
in this case, dust wasn't the issue. got some mods ive done to it that i'll be putting up soon.

@james42519 most pc's aren't as labor intensive as the ps3 or 360.
also, most pc's are better ventilated.
as for the ps2, they didn't get anywhere near as hot as current gen consoles,
so they could get away with thermal pads, shoot, they didn't even have heatsinks.
elcheapouno 6 months ago
@elcheapouno well actually ps2 did have a heat sink now.
james42519 6 months ago
@james42519 they do, its been a while since Ive been one.
"did have a heatsink now"?? ;p

Do you think the thermal paste is enough to fix the LYOD? I dont have a heat gun and I want to fix mine :)
jillpoo3 6 months ago
@jillpoo3 no, once the ps3 has overheated and yellow lighted,
theres no way but to do a reflow. if your looking for a reasonably
priced temperature controlled heat gun, harbor freight has
some on sale for 25$

@fuyingbro wow, seems something maybe shorting out your laser's
diode. also, maybe your reflows aren't getting up to the right temps.
