@apes4life>>> funny that's actually how i heard of him first as well. gotta love the ending tho. (going out to a hail of bullets with free bird in the background) truly effective!
FUN FACT: actually, Jimmy Page wanted Terry Reid to sing for the "New Yardbirds" with him. but Reid was busy on tour, and Jimmy Page got Robert Plant instead. what happened next you probably know (Zeppelin). if he had joined up, you'd definitely have heard of Reid before this movie soundtrack. it'd be Plant you wouldn't know.
isnt it funny that of all people...rob zombie is the one who brought this guy to everybodies attention by using his music on the devils reject soundtrack!
I was looking the blestEnation version, but terry reid kept popping up, so youtube it is, I love good music. rap rock its all good music, & this is really good music
I hear this song on The Devils Rejects for the first time definitely a hidden classic. There is alot of passion in this song. The lyrics are great also.
Can som1 tell me why the fk ive never ever seen this guy befor?.... this song alone is on par if not better than the likes of no women no cry. Such an obvius classic i guess its burried amongst all this bolix we call music today. Ive been back tracking over old music alot for the past few years, and for songs like this its no fucking wonder ;p lets drop it like its hot!.. no.. fuck off snoop.
Even snoop is a dying breed. R.A.P is no longer Rythme And Poetry. Most music today is only created to meet the bottom line. Fortunatley there has been a slow shift back to music that means something. Not much music has the feeling like this one does. You can hear it... in the way he plays and sings. Like Janice Jopplin you can hear the energy put into it. The fact that it is as old as it is can still reach people today show what good music can do even without mass hype.
Terry was in great form @ the studio on april 6, 2009. He had the audience in his hand and gave them his heart. I 'm hoping someone has a video of TERRY REID @ THE STUDIO NYC, 4/6/09... the band was a special one:
Ed Rainey from the Cosmic American Derelicts Band on guitar/ slide
the use of the song on the film 'the devils rejects' is simply promoting good music, if you actually bothered to watch it instead of criticizing it, you would realize that it is a beautiful ending scene, and it shines a good light on terry reid's outstanding work as a musician.
ATTN NYC! - TERRY REID is performing live at The Studio at Webster Hall on Tuesday, April 7th 2009 at 8PM in New York City. This is a show not to miss as you know if you are watching and listening to this video now. DON'T MISS IT!
i think rob zombie did a fantastic job using the music to compliment the tone of the movie. no song is more evident than this song during the ending credits. if you look at the other songs in the soundtrack, they're pretty damn good. also, rob zombie has said that terry reid was his favorite artist. i guess i don't see rob zombie's work as degenerate hollywood.
I have to agree - by including the 3 songs in his film Rob Zombie has done more to promote Terry Reid's awesome music than anyone else, including (sadly) Terry's own producer. I am very grateful to RZ for having such fine taste and introducing many young folks to this unsung hero of classic rock.
I agree with positive posts. At the end of Devil's Rejects, I was like, "Who is this?" It was an unexpected song for this movie's ending, but it worked great! I had to YouTube it and hear it right away! Very soulful/mournful music. Sounds Great!
Spread Dreams Over The Battle Below Bring Love With A Song As She Passes So His Life Can Stay Immortal To The Country And Let Every Man Aware Of Being Free When She Talks Of Times When Wine Is Handed To Me From A Face That Walked Out Of A Memory Now That The Battle Is Done And You Wake Up In The Morning With The Sun Up In The Sky Summer Never Gives You No Warning Then Flowers Are Getting Thrown Up To Cover The Mud Up On The Line
Valleys Getting Greener And There's Nothing But Love On Your Mind Brave Dreams That Are Kindled From Ashes Rise Out Over The Battle Below Spread Wings Over All That He Passes So His Life Can Stay Immortal To The Country Other Shades Of The Green That Brought For Me A Victory But The Winds Of Change Have Rearranged This Country Let It Always Sow A Seed Of Memory For A Long Time
OK, I'm not trying to start a huge debate here....but this may be the best song out there. So much feeling and emotion, so easily conveyed which most artists seem to struggle with nowadays. Superb job, Mr Reid!
It's cuz most "artists" are chosen because of their look and not talent. Back then ppl had talent and didn't care about "the look." Things are so backwards now! I was born in the wrong decade..
preach fresh! I could not agree more...back when this music was being made the industry was not all about the "image" it WAS all about talent and creative free expression...it's nice to see that someone is on the same page...peace
i also credit rob zombie for using "let it ride " in the new halloween..i was asking people everywhere who sang that for last 2 years....and now i know....cool songs he uses
This truly is one of the greatest songs of all time! I also was introduced to this song from the movie "The Devils Rejects". I totally thought the movie rocked!
first time I heard this was when the ending credits came on The Devil's Rejects. I was hooked and listen to it all the time now. I bet the cd is amazing, I will have to buy it.
The CD indeed IS amazing. In fact all his 1966-69 recordings are amazing. Look right here on YT for album versions of Superlungs, May Fly, Bang Bang. I got the Superlungs compilation (1st 2 albums) - 17 songs, and not a single one disappointing. Also check out Dean live at Glastonbury Fayre 1971.
ye, it worked really well in the film, did you know terry reed was in competition with Robert Plant for the role in Led Zeppelin, could have been interesting
They were never in 'competition' for it. Page wanted Reid and he couldn't do it so he pointed to his friend Robert Plant whom Page had never heard of until then...as soon as he heard Plant sing, he was floored and knew he found his man.
Great song... He's such a powerful writer
