First, I wouldnt vote for anyone in a cult, which is anyone in washington, and 2, why would I vote for a guy anyway that wants to make a tax law when we shouldnt be paying taxes in the first place because there is no law!! Listen, I grew up in an Italian neighborhood in Brooklyn, and i know about illegal taxes from the streets, and the IRS / CIA is no different, you are all strong-arm crooks
@InChristAlive First Mike Huckabee is not in Washington. You can watch him on Fox network. Second, HR 25/S13 the Fairtax eliminates the IRS, we are then that much closer to no tax. If people see what they are spending it will be that much easier to convince them that we need to be sending less money to Washington for the government to waste. Most of the Lobbyists are eliminated and congress no longer would have the ability to make or give special deals. Major savings!
Have any of you guys seen the movie "Freedom to Faceism"? It is NOT Fiction -it is Non-Fiction - that means its true and real(for those of you who do not know the differance between fiction and non-fiction. The movie was made by Arron Russo. Arron made the movies "The Rose" with Bette Middler and "Trading Places" with Eddie Murphy - I believe Arron Russo was murdered by the Federal Reserve for revealing the truth to people. Every American should see this movie. It was made by an American patriot
Fairtax is a massive NEW tax --- a hidden tax they don't tell you about except in one or two sentences, in the backs of their books.
See page 138 of the Fairtax Answers the Critics Book:
"Under our plan, every city and state government body must pay to the federal government a tax on whatever they spend. This includes a tax on city and state purchases, but also services and wages (labor cost)." Paraphrased for clarity.
Where will the cities and states get the money to pay it?
@AshleyC42 What the IRS did to you, is Criminal. HR 25, the Fairtax eliminates the IRS, what better way to get even. Support Fairtax HR25 / S13. Write to your congress man and also Vote.
At what point do we as a people realize that slavery to any degree is unacceptable. The US constitution does not support an unapportioned direct tax. You own your bodies. You own your time. You own your labor. There are those in government that believe that you own only that portion of your body, time, and labor that they allow you to keep. That is raw slavery. This is the slave master mentality. The masters wish to keep their slaves ignorant of the truth. Understanding the law is forbidden.
@almartin77 YEP - Understanding the law is forbidden, Almartin is right. If you guys watch the Video "Freedom To Faceism" by Arron Russo you will learn all about this false tax and Arron gave his life so we could learn the truth about the IRS. The government killed him for teaching the people the truth. Here is the link to the full movie on Google - awesome documentary every American needs to see - sit your friends down and watch it
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Huckabee you suck .. have always sucked and will always suck .. fuck your fair tax and the income tax .. keep our own money in our own state ... Jesus thinks your an asshole.
@drmassone Yea!!! get rid of the IRS!!! I don't like it!!! I'm sick of getting a second job during the month of Dec. through march just to pay for my income tax!!! This country should NEVER BE CALL AMERICA!!! It should be call REPAIRERICA!!!! F**K If I say any more I'll shoot someone so I'll just leave for now!!!!
the irs IS A bunch of nazi's , government created it to juice people out of their hard earned money! what the fuck do they serve! this country really not the land of the free!!
From BHI/fairtaxorg:"Households in the lowest income band, with an (AGI) of less than $10,000 annually, would benefit because they would receive the prebate that would more than offset any higher cost of purchasing goods.Households in the top income category, with more than $150,000 in annual income, would also gain as they do not have to pay their highest marginal tax rates. Mid-income category households would lose because the Fair Tax would impose a relatively higher tax rate on them."
If you make between roughly $20k and $200K a year, and want to pay more in taxes while working longer hours, just to stay even with where you are now, then this tax is for you.
Their own data shows this.
Notice how not one supporter ever posts any data or sources? Because they can't-- it is a scam being pulled over the poor duped supporters.
Will they ever look at the data? It's doubtful, no one wants to find out they've been had.
If you are just looking into the "Fair" Tax aka National Sales Tax-inclusive aka "NaSTi"-- if you understand the difference between "marginal" and "effective" rates, look at the numbers, don't fall for the scam:
Current EFFECTIVE Federal rates for he middle classes- about 8-18%, and that INCLUDES all FICA and CIT. -- source, CBO
Effective federal rates of the FT/NST for the middle classes, 19%. --Beacon Hill Inst., FT supporters
Current effective federal rate of top20% = 26%. -- CBO
To the guy who mentioned foreign tourists- just because Europeans rebate their VATs to tourists, doesn't mean we have to rebate the Fair Tax to our tourists, and according to the current bill, we won't.
The thing is, foreign tourists would have a choice, pay an insane 23%i/30%e sales tax in the USA on every purchase, or vacation elsewhere (hello, Canada, Bahamas, Australia, India)-- so the tourism industry would suffer greatly.
f u you wanna jump on ron pauls ban wagon... i dont need an accountant or an attorney nor do i pay wages or have any money witheld . i know the truth .. prebate means to pay in advanceand then payback later. heres a book you idiot... cracking the code ..
Too much collateral damage for one. At least we get something for our tax dollars, but compliance costs go down a black hole- you get nothing for that.
Compliance costs are exaggerated by FT/NST supporters-- much of what they count as "compliance costs" is corporate and business accounting that would still be necessary for state taxes and for the edification of stockholders and potential stockholders.
Paranoid FT/NST fans go on and on about H&R Block blahlahblah-- H&R Block's total annual revenue runs about 4.5billion$-- hardly some huge drain on society.
And go look it up-- the budget of the IRS is amazingly low for the taxes collected.
Uh... are you are retard? A communist government takes most of the money from most of the people to fund the few of the people who cannot support themselves. From those with the means TO those with the needs.
Yes! it appears that the IRS is above honoring or being required to enforce Federal Court Orders on tax-relief. My concern is for the people now facing the housing finance and foreclosure problems. When the Bank wirte-off amounts those people will have those amounts added to them as income, thus trusting them into a new crisis of tax-debt with the IRS. Will you be next?
It is easy to look at the numbers and see the fraud the backers of the FT/NST are trying to pull-- raising the taxes of the middle class while lowering the taxes of the very wealthy.
Huckabee is either a dupe, or in on the scam.
Some obvious truths:
1)The FT/NST does not "tax the underground" any more than they are taxed now if one agrees with the supporters' concept of "embedded taxes.
2)Estate & capital gains taxes are not "embedded tax costs"
Allow stay at home moms to have a retirement account.
Raise the minimum wage.
Strengthen the family.
Simplify the IRS code.
Provide money for, health care, a new home and a college education for our children.
"The best concept to finance government in the history of mankind" will do ALL of these things WITHOUT reducing the revenue going to the U.S. Treasury!
Government Gets way to much income. I haven't totaled up anything yet but U.S. gives Billions every year to Israel to support their genocide, a trumped up illegal war in Iraq spending trillions so that contractors & Corporations make millions from stolen oil. U.S. has been at war nonstop since 1950's. DOD stolen unaccountable trillions of dollars yearly. so much money flows into Government that U.S. gives it away, used for bribes & gets stolen. Ron Paul (Gravel, Larouche)the only ones who care.
Well that was a stupid thing to say. He clearly said youtube, and if that is what you are going to base your vote on, you shouldn't be allowed anywhere near the polls.
Fair tax screws ALMOST everyone. Its one of the few tax plans that could. You will have MUCH higher prices -- especiall on big ticket items (new houses, heart surgery), but your take home pay wont go up nearly enough to cover it. Huck is a liar, he cant be that stupid to believe this tax, and he is fooling stupid people.
LMAO! Thank God they don't allow illegal aliens to vote (yet). Too bad they're free to post moronic comments like this one, you corrupt son of thee b*** lier.
I HAVEN'T FILED TAXES IN 7 YRS! There is no law that requires us to pay income tax at all. Check for yourself.... Seriously. Everyone say's "yea, what about the roads, the schools, etc." That's not where this money is going anyway! Where is it going? WAKE UP PEOPLE! DO THE RESEARCH!!!!!
Last time I looked, you had to have an income to file income taxes. And to have an income, you had to work for a living. I know of lots of shiftless deadbeat porch monkeys who haven't paid taxes in sevenTEEN years because they've never bothered to get up and go to a job each day like the rest of us.
Ok so don't do any resarch?? You didn't, obviously...I'm self employed and have been for many years 16 to be exact. I average about 50k per year. I pay $800 per month in child support for my daughter. Dead beat? I install cpt, vinyl, tile, and wood floors. What do you do??? Seriously, you have the wrong guy here. Why wouldn't you just ask me how? Pfft, :) uh... yea, good luck with everything... Go see Aaron Russo's - America: Freedom to facism. Youtube it. Then Youtube some ex IRS agent videos.
Mr. Huckabee, you can't have it both ways-- if peoples wages stay the same and their employers give them the whole paycheck, the "embedded tax costs" are not going down for the employer.
True, but it's a wash at any level- either the pay goes up or prices go down, or some combination thereof. Furthermore, the more prices go up, the more we shift the burden to tax cheats and other lawbreakers.
No, it is not a wash. Estate taxes and CIT removal does not lower prices, and the more prices go up the more we shift the burden off of the wealthy and onto on the middle classes-- anyone cheating now would likely cheat under an FT/NST, and in fact it is pretty clear that even many people who don't cheat now will cheat here and there, because they won't see it as cheating (how many people currently collect and pay sales tax when they have a yard sale?).
You missed the point-- the point is that people are supposed to pay taxes on yard sales now, and most don't. That is cheating on sales tax, and you can bet peopel will cheat in droves under a 23%1/30%e sales tax.
And, this all doesn't matter-- to me it is about who's taxes would be raised, and that is the middle classes taxes would be raised, and is undebateable if you accept fairtaxorg's OWN RESEARCH.
Disk, yes, prices will go DOWN magically from release of "embedded" taxes, then go up the same amount from the sales tax. AND - everyone gets their total paycheck. Also, we will all be able to fly if we wore a certain shirt.
If you don't support Fair Tax, you probably either are part of a large money washington interest group or simply don't understand it. It was created by lead economists from harvard and standford and other big think-tanks. Go to fairtax(dot)org to learn more
I just watched "Freedom to Fascism" on Youtube, and all I can say is, wow. If you're undecided about who to vote for, it'll definitely help you make the right choice.
Paying outrageous taxes regardless of the design will never go away until politicians stop wasteful spending. Ron Paul has the only plan to cut the size of government by more than 50%. Why is this so hard to understand? Yes, with the Real Tax your take home pay goes up by 23%, but what good does this do you when the price of everything you buy goes up by 23%? How stupid do you have to be to think this is a "tax cut"?
What an unrealistic, idiotic plan. Yes, reduce the tax code requirements, but you can't completely get rid of the IRS. So typical of Huckabee, just like the Clintons, making all these promises they KNOW they can't keep! ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT! He gets things done!!!!!!!
Rest assured my whole family/relatives (and practically every church in America) are voting for you! Always in my prayers; it couldn't get any better for Christians for someone like you to come along! God bless. ♥
the fairtax is NOT a flat tax! under the fairtax the poor pay nothing. even if your not poor you can still choose to pay nothing by voting w/ your dollars. this makes the taxes voluntary and thus constitutional. the reason the 16 amend. is unconstitutional is because it is compulsory. educate yourself.
Ron could set the agenda and Mike could deliver it.
That way we'd get real law with some teeth to chase away those who are trying to make a living on the back of Americans and we'd have the smooth, likebale personality of Mike to deliver the message.
Vote for Ron Paul, then ask him to select Mike as V.P.
Ron Paul, No tax ??? Yeah right no taxes no military to protect our freedom. Lets see what happens if/when we get attack again by terrorist and we have no money for a military. Ron Paul is nuts. Huckabee is making sense. He has my vote!!! Too bad congress won't approve it. Oh well were screwed again!!!
Why can't you see? It is so simple. EVERYONE pays a flat tax with no loopholes. Everyone gets to take off the poverty level income. Corporations and small business get to deduct payroll expenses. This will keep wages being paid in cash up front. This will also bring jobs back to America. Think of all the income the country will have when the rich have to pay on their money like the middle class and poor.
Mike Huckabee stole Ron Paul's line of "Get Rid of the IRS. Being born in Hope, Arkansas scares me. However he has a pleasant personality, but he belongs to the CFR and that's no good. CFR will strip us of our sovereignty and a whole lot more. Like taking our guns away, etc.
ron paul is on record saying he would sign the fairtax into law if passed.(btw- a pressident doesnt have the power to levy taxes, that is the role of congress. -see constitution)
Please do some research on where the money we pay to the IRS goes. You will find that 100% goes to the Federal Reserve (a private banking cartel)to pay interest on money congress gave them the privilage to print form nothing. The Fed is to problem with the income tax until it is delt with changing the tax system is pointless.
Mike, throw your support behind Ron Paul. He has you by spades. He's more Christian, honorable, consistant, a real Statesman. Look at yourself in the mirror, stop this quest for president to fill your ego. Ron Paul is the Thomas Jefferson of our day, he hates taxes.
You are the ignorant one. You don't understand the simple mathematical concept behind the fair tax. Instead you resort to foul language and personal attacks. This indicates your deep seated bigotry.
Huckabee - what r u gona do about the control of the Federal Reserve?! The FED is the thing that is sinking this Country! The FED is NOT controlled by the US Govt! And the IRS taxes r going to pay off the FED & its traitorous schemes!
Biased or not, the facts are the facts. Huckabee lies all the time. That won't work on the national level. People are looking for straight forwardness after years of Bush lies. If he were smart, he'd tell the truth for a change and say tell why he did what he did. I ran into a Ft. Smith Republican in Hope Arkansas a week ago. He said Huckabee was a "liar."
attorney's and accountants are the problem especially if they are either deliberately continuing the veiling of truths by protecting the continuation and interests of their jobs or they are D- students in their curriculum. much like how preachers have depictions of white stringy haired jesus's on the walls of churches and yet the descriptions in bibles state other distinguishables. a brainwash intrusion on an idea other than what it originally is.
Sorry, the Fair Tax is not a very good alternative to the current fraudulent tax, the Income Tax. Just do some math on the cost of goods...puts the burden on buying...which will affect selling...Hey, how about this...we keep the income tax on the corporations and stop the wars...????
Mr. Huckabee fails to comment on the illegality of the 16th amendment that was illegally ratified.
He does not comment on any written law anywhere saying that americans have to pay an unapportioned direct tax on their labor and much less so to the Federal Reserve Bank who gets 100% of it and do not have to pay taxes themselves.
Everything is cheaper to buy? Just what I need, enticement to indulge in my materialistic needs. Hidden embedded tax? Why does that disappear? Where does that embedded cost come from?
The income tax system punishes hard work by confiscating the fruits of our labor while the Fair Tax would punish us for enjoying the fruits of our labor.
I feel our federal government should be doing neither. A small federal government limited by the constitution, prohibited from directly taxing the people, is the legacy the founding fathers have left us. Preserve Liberty, join the Ron Paul Revolution.
Look Hunkofbull, if you don't eliminate the Federal Reserve System which includes the IRS then you are in support of slavery. Period! When I last checked slavery wasn't fair.
All Americans need to be armed against the federal government or end up dieing like dogs. I have found that many so called "patriots" still pay income taxes and lick the boots of government agents. Again, arm yourself against the IRS.
How can you lower taxes if you don't lower spending? Screw all these meaningless tax programs. Get rid of them all. Get rid of the IRS! Get rid of the income tax! Less federal spending on meaningless bureaucratic programs!
today only 1/3 of govt spending is paid via the income tax remaining comes from borrowing and the fed printing money. the only fair tax is NO TAX. we are on the verge of a monetary collapse not seen the great depression if we continue policies such as this.
Hey Huckster, we already pay taxes on EVERYTHING we buy or sell. The key isn't more or different taxation, the key is LESS Federal spending. Hell, I'd be a millionaire if I could just pull money out of thin air... oh wait... the Federal Reserve does that already. Guess those guys aren't doing to bad, huh? End the tyranny! RP 2008!
What a turd sandwich...LOL...Fair tax is more than likely a big lie...It will turn out to be the UNFAIR tax...It is based on what you consumption...do you really want everything you buy to be extra taxed?..This guy is full of shit....Do taxes choke businesses to death??? No they pay starving people low wages to make 1,000,000% Profit....
I am currently writing articles that defend the Fair Tax against common criticisms by trying to offer my own personal solutions. Anyone is more than welcome to use them so long as giving me some credit.
Billary will be "elected" because she was chosen years ago by those who own the FED. The system that we have is what we will have after the election, only worse. You only think that you are paying taxes now. If you want change, then find out where the IRS bastards live and publish the lists so that we will know as much about THEM as they do about US. THEN and only THEN will we be equal to the task before us for freedom...
There is no way in hell Ron Paul will ever win the Republican nomination. The only way he will make it to the general election would be to run as an independent. If he runs as an independent, all he will accomplish is to put Hillary into the White House.
In addition to Internet control, it will cause air pollution. Internet shopping will reduce air pollution because you don't have to drive all the way to the store to buy something. But taxing the Internet would reduce Internet shopping.
First, income tax is eliminated, so sales tax will be much higher. Because of the higher sales tax, people will buy more things off the Internet because there are no taxes on the Internet. As more and more people buy off the Internet instead of going to stores, the government would tax the Internet to raise money. Addition to taxing, the government will control more and more on the Internet. As more and more government control, things such as Internet censorship would take over.
Mike, just come out and throw your support behind Ron Paul. He can teach you a thing or two. Listen to him. He might make you a member of his cabnet. Oh and by the way, good luck.
Title 26 (IRS Code) Section 83(a) Excludes your costs in making a buck from consideration as "Gross Income." Your labor is your property and once spent is gone forever. The Fair Market Value (what you were paid) of your labor is deducted from "Gross Income." It's not just a good idea, it's the law.
The problem this idiot huckster won't tell you is that you will be taxed twice on the crap they already tax. Look at the FEDERAL tax on gasoline? Go to the you tube search -- enter tom cryer
Catches: food expenses. Each member of household, meaning division of costs.
So, a monthly payment for food taxes for poverty-level Cost of Living is based on about $100 or less. What level is the proposed tax rate to be set? Even if it made 17% , 17% of $100.. or near $17/month.
Then, that $17 is eaten up as soon as you buy a tank of gas, in taxes alone. Think people.
The manner in which the tax is calculated ( taxing the full post-tax value, so taxing 23% on the 23% tax+root product cost ) means small changes to the tax rate make big changes to how much you spend.
The best route is to tax businesses, corporate profits, self-employment, but not wages. A small VAT ( value-added tax ) would go to fill the place of the wage tax from the I.R.S., and government would slim down. Why I want Ron Paul!
if you tax businesses, they will raise prices on everything to compensate, so we, the people that buy their products, would be the ones that are actually paying those taxes. Also, if businesses are taxed more, they will lay off people and cut wages to compensate for lost income. Is that what you want?
You have obviously never owned a small business or been interested in it. Taxing businesses more would make inflation rise even more.
Prices will go up if business expenses go up. They are profit oriented and they will meet their goals for certain amount of profit. Tax the profit and they will increases prices or cut employees to meet that goals.
No it's not. Try starting your own business and you quickly find out that it is not. I will give you hint to one large problem. DOUBLE TAXATION. Corporation gets taxed, then your own income that you pay yourself is taxed yet again. It's extremely difficult for people to start a business with current taxes. America is a country were you should be able to follow your dreams. And unfortunately it is not with the current tax system.
I run a business, actually, and have for more than a decade. I am aware of the stupid decisions that have been made and the red-tape that prevents new business development.
We can easily stop federal taxation. The real money is made on interest rates anyway. If our government got its spending on a tighter budget, we could see the day again when no tax is levied on the people, but properly apportioned amongst the states, whom would determine how to control the cost of the federal government.
Are you trying to disagree with me? If so, why did you reply to my comment and say basically the same thing I did? You simply stated it a little differently, but the jist is basically the same.
I never disagree, just comment. The FairTax brings up good ideas, and SOUNDS GREAT. It is the wording in itself which is the issue. The design would work, and would likely have many of the desired benefits, if the system was not as it is today.
The ability of the government to make its own money simply by printing paper is a savage manipulation of the system. It is viral.
We need to correct this and more for the FairTax to work properly. In our current system, a VAT would be best.
I can't see how a 22% "hidden" tax and the roughly 28% income tax can both disappear and be replaced by a 23% consumer tax without a decrease in goverment spending. The "Fair Tax" proposal is intriguing but the exponentially increasing budget of our government will eventually harm our economy - I would like to see that integrated into the "Fair Tax" proposal to get my support.
I'll give you a simple answer to this question. There are millions upon millions of people in this country that do not pay income taxes right now (ie. illegals). With the FairTax, they would be contributing everytime they bought something.
If you and I goto the E.U., we can get our taxes back which ae paid in that manner. Foreign visitors don't have to pay to run the country they are visiting, except by helping the companies they purchase from while there.
In the E.U. an American can save all receipts with the VAT added, and get the amount paid to the VAT returned. We would have to act the same way. Illegals would get this back.
where did you here this? The illegals would get nothing back. If they tried, all they would get would be a one way trip back to Mexico or whatever country they came from. I think you have been misled.
I've traveled in 17 countries (mostly EU), and saved receipts for my VAT payments, before leaving the EU, I cashed them at the airport, using my US passport.
here's another example for you...Paris Hilton has been in the news recently, so lets use her as an example. Does she actually work? Does she pay income taxes? I don't know, but I do know that one of her dresses, would probably run about half of my yearly salary, and you know she can't wear the same dress twice. What this means is that she, and people like her, will end up paying alot more taxes.
That is the purpose of a VAT, a MUCH better alternative than the FairTax. The purpose of luxury taxes ( such as on cars ), gas guzzler tax, property tax ( which should be banned ), etc..
I don't mind the idea of a sales-tax type system in place, but government needs to trim down, and make the rates low, but graduated with item value/tax-rate status. FairTax has no logic control.
The only "fair" tax is "NO" tax! End the theft of our hard-earned dollars by the U.S. government, stolen from us at gunpoint! Restore the Republic! Vote Ron Paul for President!
"Use of the state police airplane became an issue during former Gov. Mike Huckabee's1 term as governor. In 10 /2 years, Huckabee flew more than 1,500 hours on the state police plane. His flights since 2002 cost taxpayers nearly $600,000...
Huckabee's office didn't disclose the purposes of his flights and he didn't reimburse the state for any of them."
All of that is true...Keep in mind that represents 1500 hours in Arkansas....The man is actually really poor at managing his expenses and the expenses of the taxpayer...Another example is his current campaign..They're in the hole $30,000.00 according to todays Boston Globe.
If you really are serious about this Mr.H make sure when this happens you have great security and a food taster so you don't end up like Lincoln or Kennedy. Federal Reserve is the most evil corporation on the planet.
There are some jobs where a person has to spend a lot of money in order to make the job work. An example: a builder. A builder has to buy all the lumber, bricks, shingles, drywall, etc. Does he really have to pay taxes on all the stuff that he buys in order to do business?
Actually he doesn't. Taxes are paid on consumption of goods and services by the consumer. Business would pay NO tax on items for resale. Add to that, building costs would be reduced too since the employer is not paying any matching payroll taxes..ie. Soc Security, Medicare, etc. Take a $100K house today...reduce it by about 22% and you have a $78K house on the market...NEW.
The Democrats want to raise taxes on big business to help out the little guys (aka - You and I). It really won't affect big business that much, because they will just raise their prices to compensate for the increased taxes. In other words, you and I (the little guys) are going to be paying more embedded taxes on everything we buy if the Democrats are allowed to raise the taxes on big business.
You misunderstood my comment. The DEMOCRATS want to raise taxes on big business. Big business will raise their prices to compensate. Basically, the imbedded taxes that we already pay will increase, so we will pay more for every item. The Fair Tax will eliminate the embedded taxes, making the cost go down. When you add the Fair Tax, the final cost is virtually the same as before.
In conclusion, Since you will no longer be paying income tax, you will bring home a larger paycheck. For me, that is a $400 raise every 2 weeks, even before the prebate. The prebate is basically a monthly bonus check for me, which in essence, gives me a larger raise. The prebate is enough to cover my monthly grocery bill, so my cost of living severly drops, and I have more money left over each month to play around with.
The FairTax moves the tax burden from the businesses and places it unto the people, making the rich richer.
People who currently pay no taxes would only see a sudden rise in prices, with only a little extra cash available ( no witholdings ).
In the end, they lose buying power, as the prices will be higher after the tax, adjusted by the increase in income, unless the tax rate is below 22%, and we need it to be around 16% to work without throwing the markets arounding.
what are you talking about? the consumer already foots the bill on the taxes businesses pay. where do you think they get the money to pay those taxes from? do you not get that by removing those taxes, the cost of manufacturing and providing a service will drop? and then via the flat tax, the price then goes back up (to its original level)? so basically we get the same goods and services at the same cost, but we dont have to put anything in off our paychecks.
The tax burdened price of a candy bar is, say, $1.00. With the tax burden of the company attached ( in current state ), that comes to 1.22 ( though it is normally less as businesses get major tax breaks ).
Just taxing at 23% costs more: 1.00 @ 23% tax = 1.23. Not much more, but wait! FairTax bases the taxable value on the post-taxed item! So, 1.23 is the TAXABLE VALUE, that tax is 0.28, when added to the real cost gives $1.28.
So it would move from 65 cents to 30 cents, and back up to 40 when you add the 30% (7 in NJ, plus the 23 from the FairTax). Not bad, but Ron Paul will leave it at 30. And all the companies who PURCHASE INGREDIENTS WILL GET TAXED ON THAT. IT STAYS THE SAME. Say no the FairTax. Say yes to Dr. No.
First, I wouldnt vote for anyone in a cult, which is anyone in washington, and 2, why would I vote for a guy anyway that wants to make a tax law when we shouldnt be paying taxes in the first place because there is no law!!

Their own data shows this.

Will they ever look at the data? It's doubtful, no one wants to find out they've been had.

The thing is, foreign tourists would have a choice, pay an insane 23%i/30%e sales tax in the USA on every purchase, or vacation elsewhere (hello, Canada, Bahamas, Australia, India)-- so the tourism industry would suffer greatly.

Paranoid FT/NST fans go on and on about H&R Block blahlahblah-- H&R Block's total annual revenue runs about 4.5billion$-- hardly some huge drain on society.

3)"revenue neutral" FT= middle pays more

cheepthrills 4 years ago
Mr. Huckabee, you can't have it both ways-- if peoples wages stay the same and their employers give them the whole paycheck, the "embedded tax costs" are not going down for the employer.
You cannot have your cake AND eat it too.
Diskatopia 4 years ago
Correction : should read "'embedded tax costs' will not be going down anywhere near 22% for the employer, who thus cannot lower prices 22%.
Diskatopia 4 years ago
True, but it's a wash at any level- either the pay goes up or prices go down, or some combination thereof. Furthermore, the more prices go up, the more we shift the burden to tax cheats and other lawbreakers.
Roxas42 3 years ago
No, it is not a wash. Estate taxes and CIT removal does not lower prices, and the more prices go up the more we shift the burden off of the wealthy and onto on the middle classes-- anyone cheating now would likely cheat under an FT/NST, and in fact it is pretty clear that even many people who don't cheat now will cheat here and there, because they won't see it as cheating (how many people currently collect and pay sales tax when they have a yard sale?).
The grey/blackmarket will boom.
Diskatopia777 3 years ago
Yard sales don't count because the goods are used. Read the FairTax. You still don't understand! Do you?
wa2n10s 3 years ago 2
You missed the point-- the point is that people are supposed to pay taxes on yard sales now, and most don't. That is cheating on sales tax, and you can bet peopel will cheat in droves under a 23%1/30%e sales tax.
And, this all doesn't matter-- to me it is about who's taxes would be raised, and that is the middle classes taxes would be raised, and is undebateable if you accept fairtaxorg's OWN RESEARCH.
Diskwin 3 years ago
Correction: "whose"

Disk, yes, prices will go DOWN magically from release of "embedded" taxes, then go up the same amount from the sales tax. AND - everyone gets their total paycheck. Also, we will all be able to fly if we wore a certain shirt.

The "Fair" tax will hammer the middle class... it is clearly not progressive, as even Cato Institute admitted in a policy brief.
"Pimps", "Illegals", etc. will NOT pay more... unless prices go up for us all.
If prices do not go up, all you are doing is renaming the alleged "embedded taxes" as "inclusive natinal sales tax"...

Why can't you see? It is so simple. EVERYONE pays a flat tax with no loopholes. Everyone gets to take off the poverty level income. Corporations and small business get to deduct payroll expenses. This will keep wages being paid in cash up front. This will also bring jobs back to America. Think of all the income the country will have when the rich have to pay on their money like the middle class and poor.

In addition to Internet control, it will cause air pollution. Internet shopping will reduce air pollution because you don't have to drive all the way to the store to buy something. But taxing the Internet would reduce Internet shopping.
Notsplane 4 years ago
First, income tax is eliminated, so sales tax will be much higher. Because of the higher sales tax, people will buy more things off the Internet because there are no taxes on the Internet. As more and more people buy off the Internet instead of going to stores, the government would tax the Internet to raise money. Addition to taxing, the government will control more and more on the Internet. As more and more government control, things such as Internet censorship would take over.
Notsplane 4 years ago
If FairTax is enated, then Internet regulation would be inevitable and air pollution would escalate.

Why I want Ron Paul!
looncraz 4 years ago
if you tax businesses, they will raise prices on everything to compensate, so we, the people that buy their products, would be the ones that are actually paying those taxes. Also, if businesses are taxed more, they will lay off people and cut wages to compensate for lost income. Is that what you want?
vtech9 4 years ago
You have obviously never owned a small business or been interested in it. Taxing businesses more would make inflation rise even more.
Prices will go up if business expenses go up. They are profit oriented and they will meet their goals for certain amount of profit. Tax the profit and they will increases prices or cut employees to meet that goals.

The CURRENT corporate business tax system is sufficient to run the government in non-war-time mode, with no imperialism or big-brother police state.
The wages paid to the individual should not be taxed. You are trading your time for money, a constitutional promise of protection.
Much more is needed than just this, it is an entire revamp of the system that is needed.
looncraz 4 years ago
No it's not. Try starting your own business and you quickly find out that it is not. I will give you hint to one large problem. DOUBLE TAXATION. Corporation gets taxed, then your own income that you pay yourself is taxed yet again. It's extremely difficult for people to start a business with current taxes. America is a country were you should be able to follow your dreams. And unfortunately it is not with the current tax system.
kahrytan 4 years ago
I run a business, actually, and have for more than a decade. I am aware of the stupid decisions that have been made and the red-tape that prevents new business development.
We can easily stop federal taxation. The real money is made on interest rates anyway. If our government got its spending on a tighter budget, we could see the day again when no tax is levied on the people, but properly apportioned amongst the states, whom would determine how to control the cost of the federal government.

Are you trying to disagree with me? If so, why did you reply to my comment and say basically the same thing I did? You simply stated it a little differently, but the jist is basically the same.
vtech9 4 years ago
I never disagree, just comment. The FairTax brings up good ideas, and SOUNDS GREAT. It is the wording in itself which is the issue. The design would work, and would likely have many of the desired benefits, if the system was not as it is today.
The ability of the government to make its own money simply by printing paper is a savage manipulation of the system. It is viral.
We need to correct this and more for the FairTax to work properly. In our current system, a VAT would be best.

Get your hand out of my pocket BIG GOVERNMENT!!!
gotboys 4 years ago
I can't see how a 22% "hidden" tax and the roughly 28% income tax can both disappear and be replaced by a 23% consumer tax without a decrease in goverment spending. The "Fair Tax" proposal is intriguing but the exponentially increasing budget of our government will eventually harm our economy - I would like to see that integrated into the "Fair Tax" proposal to get my support.
wandtkeworld 4 years ago
I'll give you a simple answer to this question. There are millions upon millions of people in this country that do not pay income taxes right now (ie. illegals). With the FairTax, they would be contributing everytime they bought something.
vtech9 4 years ago
If you and I goto the E.U., we can get our taxes back which ae paid in that manner. Foreign visitors don't have to pay to run the country they are visiting, except by helping the companies they purchase from while there.
In the E.U. an American can save all receipts with the VAT added, and get the amount paid to the VAT returned. We would have to act the same way. Illegals would get this back.
looncraz 4 years ago
where did you here this? The illegals would get nothing back. If they tried, all they would get would be a one way trip back to Mexico or whatever country they came from. I think you have been misled.
vtech9 4 years ago
I've traveled in 17 countries (mostly EU), and saved receipts for my VAT payments, before leaving the EU, I cashed them at the airport, using my US passport.
Just the way it works.
looncraz 4 years ago
here's another example for you...Paris Hilton has been in the news recently, so lets use her as an example. Does she actually work? Does she pay income taxes? I don't know, but I do know that one of her dresses, would probably run about half of my yearly salary, and you know she can't wear the same dress twice. What this means is that she, and people like her, will end up paying alot more taxes.
vtech9 4 years ago
That is the purpose of a VAT, a MUCH better alternative than the FairTax. The purpose of luxury taxes ( such as on cars ), gas guzzler tax, property tax ( which should be banned ), etc..
I don't mind the idea of a sales-tax type system in place, but government needs to trim down, and make the rates low, but graduated with item value/tax-rate status. FairTax has no logic control.

So we have to abolish the IRS first, then The Federal Reserve. In that order. Got it!

From AR DemGaz (6.27.07)
"Use of the state police airplane became an issue during former Gov. Mike Huckabee's1 term as governor. In 10 /2 years, Huckabee flew more than 1,500 hours on the state police plane. His flights since 2002 cost taxpayers nearly $600,000...
Huckabee's office didn't disclose the purposes of his flights and he didn't reimburse the state for any of them."
LeeWood 4 years ago
All of that is true...Keep in mind that represents 1500 hours in Arkansas....The man is actually really poor at managing his expenses and the expenses of the taxpayer...Another example is his current campaign..They're in the hole $30,000.00 according to todays Boston Globe.

If you really are serious about this Mr.H make sure when this happens you have great security and a food taster so you don't end up like Lincoln or Kennedy. Federal Reserve is the most evil corporation on the planet.

This tax sounds great, but I have one question.
There are some jobs where a person has to spend a lot of money in order to make the job work. An example: a builder. A builder has to buy all the lumber, bricks, shingles, drywall, etc. Does he really have to pay taxes on all the stuff that he buys in order to do business?
Drahthaar422 4 years ago
NO. Any business that creates jobs pays no taxes so he would have a resale/exempt card, much like they have now for food venders.
wbradd3797 4 years ago
Actually he doesn't. Taxes are paid on consumption of goods and services by the consumer. Business would pay NO tax on items for resale. Add to that, building costs would be reduced too since the employer is not paying any matching payroll taxes..ie. Soc Security, Medicare, etc. Take a $100K house today...reduce it by about 22% and you have a $78K house on the market...NEW.
myost541 4 years ago
And a 23% tax on the 23% + base, so:
78K * 1.23 = 95,940, which is the TAXABLE amount, under the FairTax.
So now, you tax that amount at 23%:
95,940 * 1.23 = $118,006.20
FairTax is a sham, a typical sneaky tax.
looncraz 4 years ago
Heh, a little off: The taxable value is 95,940, but the tax from that value is added to he base cost of $78,000.
The taxable amount on 95,940 is $22066.20, giving you a $100,000 home for $102,066.20.
Either way, it *IS* a tax increase, and the calculation method is designed to make the tax rate look lower than it is.

The Democrats want to raise taxes on big business to help out the little guys (aka - You and I). It really won't affect big business that much, because they will just raise their prices to compensate for the increased taxes. In other words, you and I (the little guys) are going to be paying more embedded taxes on everything we buy if the Democrats are allowed to raise the taxes on big business.
vtech9 4 years ago
Any business that creates jobs pays no taxes.
wbradd3797 4 years ago
You misunderstood my comment. The DEMOCRATS want to raise taxes on big business. Big business will raise their prices to compensate. Basically, the imbedded taxes that we already pay will increase, so we will pay more for every item. The Fair Tax will eliminate the embedded taxes, making the cost go down. When you add the Fair Tax, the final cost is virtually the same as before.
vtech9 4 years ago
In conclusion, Since you will no longer be paying income tax, you will bring home a larger paycheck. For me, that is a $400 raise every 2 weeks, even before the prebate. The prebate is basically a monthly bonus check for me, which in essence, gives me a larger raise. The prebate is enough to cover my monthly grocery bill, so my cost of living severly drops, and I have more money left over each month to play around with.
vtech9 4 years ago
got it.
wbradd3797 4 years ago
The FairTax moves the tax burden from the businesses and places it unto the people, making the rich richer.
People who currently pay no taxes would only see a sudden rise in prices, with only a little extra cash available ( no witholdings ).
In the end, they lose buying power, as the prices will be higher after the tax, adjusted by the increase in income, unless the tax rate is below 22%, and we need it to be around 16% to work without throwing the markets arounding.
looncraz 4 years ago
what are you talking about? the consumer already foots the bill on the taxes businesses pay. where do you think they get the money to pay those taxes from? do you not get that by removing those taxes, the cost of manufacturing and providing a service will drop? and then via the flat tax, the price then goes back up (to its original level)? so basically we get the same goods and services at the same cost, but we dont have to put anything in off our paychecks.
mwalker05 4 years ago
The tax burdened price of a candy bar is, say, $1.00. With the tax burden of the company attached ( in current state ), that comes to 1.22 ( though it is normally less as businesses get major tax breaks ).
Just taxing at 23% costs more: 1.00 @ 23% tax = 1.23. Not much more, but wait! FairTax bases the taxable value on the post-taxed item! So, 1.23 is the TAXABLE VALUE, that tax is 0.28, when added to the real cost gives $1.28.
This *IS* how the tax is calculated!!
looncraz 4 years ago
You forgot that the candy bar is priced lower because the company making has not been taxed upfront.
chukmaty 4 years ago
So it would move from 65 cents to 30 cents, and back up to 40 when you add the 30% (7 in NJ, plus the 23 from the FairTax). Not bad, but Ron Paul will leave it at 30. And all the companies who PURCHASE INGREDIENTS WILL GET TAXED ON THAT. IT STAYS THE SAME. Say no the FairTax. Say yes to Dr. No.
