when running your video and sound cables, (black ad white) the black cable is supposed to run under the cartridge connection. That was my pain until my wife came over with a needle and thread. Thread needle and drop needle through, tie on bleck cable and pull through. Other than that between the online instructions I found and your video, daughters DS is now functional again. YES! this is perfect for me. The hinge broke a while ago on my ds lite so I bought a DSi XL but I have kept my ds lite and when I go on holiday I like to take both incase one runs out of power because my ds lite has a spare battery. So now It can look good without the screen being proped up with blue tack (a good hinge support solution btw)

@OMGCrafters If your hinge is broke like a lot of people, it's worth it since they don't fix that for free anymore. A broken hinge can cause your entire DS to crack into two, so it's advisable to replace the case for that reason. Otherwise, it's fun to switch up the colours.

It should be mentioned in the main theme of this video that the ribbon cable can easily be broken, which is not repairable. Therefore when you way up the risk and the amount of hassle of assembly, it would be better to either disgard the DS or pay to have it repaired, which ever is more cost effective. Attempting to replace the case is a very complex procedure, so you stand more chance damaging it than actually fixing it without knowledge of the assembly difficulties.

thanks for this vid. it helped very much. it's not without risk because you can break your flatwire/golden cable. but when you're careful it's really fun to do. it took me about 4 hours. but now I don't have a pink ds with broken hinge anymore.

@123africanboy I've got a similar thing, I got a chip on the top half of the DS, near the lights, makes the hinge really floppy, although I haven't had any of the glitches. Its bad build quality and you'd likely need to replace the shell.

A hinge on my DS lite is broken (way more broken than the one on the video) and when I open it, it will be totally opened, I don´t know if you understand what I mean.

Also the left side of the control pad is not working very well, I have to push it a little bit hard to make it work.

Do you think that if I change the shell of it, something will work better ?

I actually did this at home, with the same shell. But for me, when I finished, the L button was jammed. (By jammed, I mean constantly being held down.) The only way to un-jam it was to loosen the screws around it, which leaves a big gap and is very inconvenient. I am using the L-buttons from my previous shell. Does anyone know why this is happening and how I can fix it?

you can buy almost any part of the ds besides the mother board and screens for 10 dollars or less, just look around the internet if you break the flat wire you can get a new one and install it with a little know how or help from the web.
