@awsomegirl137 I come from the Arizona desert, forest are the EXCEPTION, so I love it... Same with rain. When I was young, I was always so confused seeing people in movies talk about what an awful day it is because it was raining. We get over 300 days of sun, so any rain is much enjoyed
Most Muir Woods visitors don't realize that the world's tallest Pine in Oregon and tallest Hemlock in Humboldt county, stand taller than every coast redwood in Muir Woods. The farther north, the bigger and taller redwoods become. The gemstone of all redwood parks may be Prairie Creek. But the 10 largest coast redwoods are in Humboldt Redwoods, Prairie Creek Redwoods, Redwood National Park, and Jedediah Smith Redwoods. And with virtually no crowds.
I was just there today April 1st 2010.Thanks for posting this. This place is very vast when it comes to looking up at the gigantic redwoods, makes you feel very miniscule .Thanks again for capturing that...
Thems are some awfully huge trees! No living thing quite that big in this neck of the desert! However, I did see a couple 80 foot tall boulders on the hike I went on yesterday.
I wish I had gone to Northern California when I was stationed at Oxnard, but my wife and I were into things like Disney Land then. Other than those big trees that looks like the area just a stones throw from my house. Tell Gary and Mike, Frank says hay.
Snow? What's that? Gary was visiting from Wisconsin, where they've got several feet of that stuff on the ground right now, so was very happy to see all the green.
Although the phone booth stuck out as rather odd, it actually could come in handy: The mobile signals out there are pretty poor, so if you had car trouble you'd be very happy to see that pay phone!
Beautifully done, Ken. I love the way you're able to discreetly gather a bunch of footage, then make something this beautiful from it. This is a perfect keepsake of a great day. Thanks!
It's a great park - There's the lower area which has wide, easy paths with wooden planks that anybody can walk on, then there's the narrower "real" hiking trails. The higher up you get, the more untouched and unspoiled the view. Nice to see you again, Miss Cris!
Muir did such great things for the US with respect to the national parks and monuments. I really wish they'd elevate MNM to NP status for that reason alone.
We had a blast, alright... Once we got back to the city and began the traditional "drinking and eating to excess." The doctors say we shouldn't, but we can't argue with tradition, right?
Perhaps you should indulge in a sturdy walking staff. Of course managing that and the camera and the water bottle can become problematic as well..... Tis a conundrum...
Then dont watch it ; please have respect for the natural beauty.

I thought this place was super boring. Where i come from there are trees..everywhere. so not really anything exciting..to ME.

This is still a fine park to video though.

The natural sound wasn't that great on the footage, mostly because the guys I was with wouldn't shut up for two minutes ;^)

Great outing! The rain almost makes the woods cozy...
fehquig 2 years ago
It's hardly worth calling it rain - Just a minor bit of condensation. And it did add make some of the colors pop, even if it made the video darker.

"Don't worry, darling, see the phone booth? We called the authorities and they'll be here to pick up him any minute now."
kenrg 2 years ago
Nice woods.
I once read a biography of John Muir. A very interesting character. the USA would be so very different if it wasn't for him.
Still trying to figure out why there needs to be a phone box in the woods. Is Superman a regular visitor?

Thanks - I appreciate your appreciation of my camera movement. Definitely a magical place.

Phone booth is the highlight of this fairy tale dendrified landscape. Lovely park, I think I saw a few Hobbits prowling around.

Yikes - Somehow I think it's probably better without the Disney touch...

One of my top 10 places in Cali...nice job. If you get a chance go to Mineral King in the Sequia park.

From here in the boonies it strikes me as odd to see a phone booth in the woods... He He He....
Well watched Compadre

It struck us as odd too, which is why it warranted a picture. We were examining it like the apes around the obelisk at the start of 2001.

You know, I didn't even catch that distinction between "MNM" and "NP" - You're absolutely right. Now I feel ripped off on Muir's behalf!

lovely, Gary! I was there 20 years ago and still haven't gotten over it. This was beautifully composed.

Department of Interior What?
And is there a Department of Exterior??
Love all that green.
Fricken Los Angeles has outlawed foliage.
Those jerks!

Well, you do have the beautifully cemented Los Angeles "River."
And doesn't it just figure that the parks are under the Department of the Interior? It kind of explains some of their problems...
