  • brit slaves

  • @monaghaned your thinking of canada and austalia, sorry.

  • The Irish army should be shot for the way they march the DDR in the 1980's is something to watch and we have modern equipment

  • HAVE SUM MOAR CAKE 0:23

  • @ktockly lol, i thought that too.

  • FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO ARE CURIOUS THAT WEAPON THAT THEY ALL HAVE IS THE STEYR AUG IT IS THE MOST POWERFUL ASSAULT RIFLE OF THIS DECADE AND IM SURE IT WOULD TAKE A BRITISH WANKERS FACE RIGHT OFF P.S the reason for the capital letters is because english basterds only see big things because there retarded oh look a shiney medal english basterds

  • THE IRISH FARMERS MARCH!!! SALUTE.

  • DEAR VIEWER..YOU ARE NOW LOOKING AT THE 2 BIGGEST WASTE OF MONEY PROJECTS IN IRISH HISTORY...THE ARMY AND THE PRESIDENT...

  • @irishclevertrevor money projects! ha what a wanker,

  • @irishclevertrevor Oh yeah the spire has really served us well.Best use of money possible in my opinion.

  • There are insufficient videos on YouTube of the Irish Army bands. More please!

  • We might not have the best Army in Europe, but we sure have the best marching music in the World!

  • Why do we need a military anyway? Why can't we be like Costa Rica?

  • @ChaosDynamics Defense mostly, we can never be to sure about the world's future wars breakout easily enough, also our army is deployed over seas as a UN peace keeping force.

  • @JAMD456 the defence forces wouldn't be capable of repelling any invasion. better off using the money for something more useful, such as education or healthcare.

  • @MakeNine42 What is it with people these days and giving out shite about the defence forces. and whats that shite about holding off an invasion the whole idea for the defence forces is to break up into "Flying coloums" and create hell for the invading troops

  • @MakeNine42 Those two sectors you mentioned are complete black holes. Way, way overfunded and grossly inefficient. We spend fuck all on defence and get a great service for our money. Anyway, if your gripe about the army is that they 'wouldn't be capable of repelling any invasion' (which is bollocks, by the way) then aren't you really arguing for more spending on defence instead of less?

  • @WestBritWatch up the ra

  • @WestBritWatch up the ra

  • They are all over the gaff at 0.40 to 0.45, but then who cares?. I mean its only for Mary Mc Aleese.

the greatest waste of matter / space, and energy in the whole Universe. she is after all just another turd that managed to float, to then be picked up by a FF rescue party.

She is a disgrace to the office and a parasite on the Irish tax payer, she should go back to

UTV and report on things, that are on her level..............

  • God save the president

  • the famus collins barracks!!!!

  • @IRELANDSELITE

Its not Collins Barracks its the Royal Hospital Kilmainham

  • Dont be blinded by pride ! Sometimes you need to be honest to bring change. Look at American pride and how people in power used and abused that trust. We dont live in a fair or equal society. Silence is betrayal.

  • We have played this O well were Ireland we dont need a military theme to long. Our military capability is a discrase not our service men our women they do us proud. Were not a netural country anymore since Lisbon. We have one of the worst militarys in the world our government gives it hardly no investment. If a catastrophe hits Ireland we are totally unprepared. People wont be so obtuse if we need them to take charge if catastrophe hits. Like hati they needed foreign intervention.

  • What kind of a fucking ejit are you ? We have nothing looking to the future to get us out of this mess. I'd say you must our must have a family member working in Fianna Fail. It's not just Ireland the whole of the WEST is fucked ! ! ! ! !

  • im with you on that one, his tactics were studied and adopted all over the world.

  • Whats the mane of theses songs played in the video ? And where can I find it ?

  • @ToMoOhKa The music is a medley "Molly Bloom" (a reference to Leopold Bloom’s wife in James Joyces' classic novel of Dublin life, “Ulysses”, and was arranged by Col. James Doyle who was a director in The Army School of Music up to 1971. It comprises four tunes associated with Dublin and not to do with Ulysses as such. The tunes come from traditional folk-ballads of Dublin city; (1) “Jack of all Trades”, (2)”Finnegan’s Wake”, (3) “Three Flowers”, (4) “Molly Malone”.

  • @Tuatach The Army Band version which is on the video was on recordings issued in the 1970’s and I doubt if available now. Some of the original songs were recorded at various times by local folk-group “The Dubliners”, whom, I think, are known in Europe and you might be able to find those locally.

  • @Tuatach There are some Army Band mp3's for download at "Defence Forces School of Music" but, not the tunes on this video.

  • @Tuatach

GO ON IRELAND!!! GET RIGHT INTAE THUM!

respect from your crazy ol cousin Scotland

  • @Tuatach Thank you very much for your answer!

  • The Irish Army killed over 300 Belgian and Congolese rebels in one engagement in the Congo. The Rebels had aircover and a much bigger force that out numbered the Irish 10-1. Yet the Irish held out for over 3 days without food water and Ammunition. That kinds sums up the Irish Army to me....tough fighting brave men and women, not a p**k like you.

  • Siege of Jadotville 1961 sums up the Irish army beaten by a load of Belgain colonists!

  • Indeed! An Irish company of 150 men defeating a force which outnumbered them 20-1 and had complete air superiority in a fierce six day battle which saw the Irish surrounded and without heavy weapons. The Katangese asked for the ceasefire, and their officers had to shoot their own men to keep them facing the Irish garrison. The Irish were then outmaneuvered diplomatically and forced to surrender due to UN inadequacy. I think that Jadotville does indeed sum up the the Irish Army.

  • @Kampfer1445 wow what an incredible story.I've just read on wikipedia the story of Jadotville which until now I never heard of.I'll keep in mind to buy the book Siege of Jadotville. After growing up with a family military history I always speak highly of the Irish defense forces but have little to no real knowledge. Thanks for making me aware of this.

  • @Kampfer1445 pity they hadnt the balls to fight the brits out of the north.

  • It is was very hard to march in that space because the troops had to wheel round twice in a tight space whilst keeping to the beat of the drums, so it was great drill considering that.

It is also nearly impossible for the rear troops to hear any of the commands.

    Fair play to the 27th

  • erin go braughh!!!!!!!!! im an american but im full blooded irish pipers

  • good man urself hate them brits i like Americans never did no harm to anyone . godbless

  • and what would you know 'dude' ha more loser. hehe.

  • Hahaha, ever heard of the Irish Rangers? One of the most recognised and respected military units in the world? Just because we don't start wars on whims like ameriac doesnt mean we're not prepared for it. Up Ireland!

  • Ask the people under the protection of Irish troops on UN peacekeeping missions if it is a worthwhile expense! Keep it up, God Bless the Irish!

  • No, this isn't worth it. What did they die for?

  • @ocean3da 97 Irish men and women have died since United Nations Peacekeeping began. Compare to the 181 men and women that died for a need less cause in Afghanistan in 2008 alone. Peacekeeping makes a difference to the world so dont say that those men and women died for nothing because in place like Congo,The Leb, Kosovo and chad they have made a difference to peoples lives the things you should really protest about is Afghanistan and Iraq and the Isrealis in the Lebannon. whats upwithUNMissions.

  • They are all wrong.

Nothing was done in the Congo, nothing!

It doesn't concern Ireland's security. What the hell is wrong in that country, that people seem to live in a culture where the UN is great, and national defence is bullshit.

I mean shit, I'd be outraged if what happens there, happened for Britain or England. I can at least say I have some form of a military to protect this country I live in. I don't agree at all with the use of the military for anything.

  • Does president McAleese especially see the bodies returned, as Supreme commander of the Armed forces?

  • Well during her two terms as president so far. Which her second was technically illegal, and unconstitutional, but anyway, try not to go off topic here. I live that for the other vid I made my point in.

  • I have a book on the Lebanon mission, and the Congo.

I am uncertain about Cyprus and Kosovo, and chad.

  • Its a Presidential Salute.Doesnt cost ANY money for these lads to take an hour of their time to do thier job. Also Ireland have a shitload of money, possibly more than Britain after thier army costs because we dont go to war every chance we get to lick americas ass.

  • We have no shitload of money now.Oh how times have changed.......i think its called "KARMA"

  • There is no money. Ireland is poor, why did it join the then EEC, and still part of the federal state near style EU.

  • Hey am......can you name another country you know qiute well that also joined the EEC.........

  • Yes many, to avoid war in Europe. Why did Ireland join, because it has a small resource base. England has pennies compared to Ireland having natural gas.

Scotland and may be Wales are supreme when it concerns resources.

Ireland's future will be out of the EU, I think there is no choice, people will just have to eventually try and make do with what is there.

  • @ocean3da

Ireland is not poor. It is one of the wealthier countries in Europe. It used to be poor - but Norway and Finland used to be poor as well. Ireland would be even better off if it would develop its natural gas deposits.

  • Yes it is.

The natural gas has been extracted, for some years now. It doesn't make a lot of difference does it. It still needs EU benefit money.

I thought up this scenario, Iceland and Ireland both had a sea dispute over energy resources halfway between the two states, what would happen? Iceland has little of a navy, and Ireland's one is small, but something compared to Iceland.

    What would happen?

  • I think it may of been a coast guard, they have no sufficient defence.

President Grimson, of Iceland is no Commander of the Icelandic Defence force, because there barely is any of one. In 2007 they were thinking well may be we should have one.

  • Were not poor. What kind of buble have you been living in. NEWS FLASH WERE FUCKING BROKE WAKE UP ! Were borrowing 400 million a week to keep a country of 4 1/2 million tiping over. Our banks have loans of over 420 billion. Our government are in debt our people are in Debt. The only thing thats keeping us going is a joint credit card our government is useing. Our government is part of the European four P I G S we will default and were still not out of recession. Dont get me started on nama FOOL !

  • british wanker

  • lol...thats the irish army: marching to finnegan's wake and molly malone ;)

  • And Our army ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!YEA!!!!!!!!

  • Oh yes, they are known around the world as UN peace keepers, you know they help prevent wars not the the Brits and Americans who start wars!

  • LO UR FUNNY

  • it wasn't an insult..i genuinely never knew

  • No Seriously your FUNNY!!!!!!

  • Ireland has had its own army since 1922. It also has its own Navy and Aer Corps.

They're known as the Irish Defence Forces and the President of Ireland is their Commander in Chief.

  • A very weak Navy and Air corps.

  • Oh YES NO ONE FUCKS WITH THE IRISH!!! IRISH RULE!!

  • love the irish language

  • good foot drill. Mick8598 stfp dope

  • the poor dressing at the back is most likely due to the fact that the fellas towards the end had to turn whilst giving a salute as opposed to laziness or lack of effort on their part

  • turning while saluting isnt an excuse for bad dressing, really is it?

  • 27 batt r a class act

  • by d way gerrysmile dats d pdf marching lazy fucks

  • The music is "Molly Bloom" a reference to Leopold Blooms wife in James Joyces' Ulysses, warranged by Col James Doyle who was a director in The Army School of Music up to 1971. It comprises four tunes associated with Dublin and not to do with Ulysses as such. He arranged many airs for the Defence Forces School of Music as it is known nowadays.

  • Were they honestly playing Finnegan's Wake. I love the video, it just seems a tad odd thing to do when your saluting (I assume) Mary McAleese...

  • I'm grateful for the interest shown in our military and thank those who gave ratings and posted comments.

    Tuatach.

  • As explained earlier they usually play tunes associated with the City or Town where the event takes places. In this case all tunes with a connection to Dublin.

    Tuatach

  • The commentary in Irish, by Colonel Eoghain Ó Neachtain, states as follows:

    COMMENTARY TRANSLATION:

"The contingent of the Twenty-Seventh Infantry Battallion coming across the square now and when they reach the centre of the square they will give the salute to the President.....eyes left now as they give the salute to President Mrs Mary Mc Aleese....."

Colonel O Neachtain is a respected broadcaster and former Army Press Officer, so knows what he is talking about.

    Tuatach.

  • 67th is fca...thats the pdf so its the 27th

  • shouldn't that be the 67th batt?

  • Nice clip, but you do know that the Presidential Salute is the first and last 4 bars of the National Anthem.

  • Yes, in musical terms that's correct but, the march past of troops in that clip is also deemed a Presidential Salute by the troops themselves.

  • No it isn't

  • haha its like finnigan's wake

  • Nice post, do you have any more portions of the ceremony to post? Thanks

  • Thanks. There is a wreath-laying and Last Post & Reveille followed by National Anthem and a multi- denominational religious service but, I didn't think there would be much interest in that.

  • Well, don't be to quick to think there isn't much interest. There is a fair number of military ceremonial items on YouTube. I guess I'd like to encourage you to post more and thank you again for the items already posted.

  • Why're they playing Finnegan's Wake? lol

  • This medley of 4 DUBLIN tunes is a musical representation of DUBLIN CITY where the event was held. It's usual to play music associated with whatever district in Ireland the President visits.

  • sounds like "finnigan's wake" at one point

  • Yes,four tunes make up this medley; "Jack of All Trades", "Finnegans's Wake", "The Three Flowers" and "Molly Malone". All traditional Dublin airs. Orchestration and score by Col. John Brennock of the Irish Army School of Music.

  • The music played is usually chosen by the President herself. Since the event was in Dublin, they played a selection of traditional Dublin folktunes.

  • Err...molly malone? Not really an ideal song for that ehh.

  • To be quite honest no if you add the words and play it in the manner it usually is, however considering the manner in which it was played and therefore heard I would say it fitted quite nicely.

  • fantastic
