Hidden Power is a move affected by pokemons hidden IV numbers,every stat has an IV number from 0-31 and depending on the combination of these you have a different base power 1-70 and a different type,fire,grass etc... so basically you could catch 2 machops and one could have a really weak rock type and the other could have a really strong ice type,this move is mostly only usefull in competitive battling to use moves not of their pokemons type,people even go to extents of breeding for HiddenP's

That seems very complicated. I've triied tampering with values before in Diamond, when I trained some Johto starters, but...I just couldn't manage it very well. =P

mhmm,the random number generator in pokemon DPPT is really really bad,although you can pass on IV's once you have good ones,when you breed at least 2 are guarenteed passed on,so if you have 2 pokemon with -/31/31/31/-/- and another one with 31/-/31/31/31 then you will have maximum iv's in at least 2 stats,that is virtually guarenteed,some people give away pokemon with high iv's but its hard to find
