Man, I don't have anything against Jimmy Page, but in some points I agree with @macbuckets30, Page was more of a showman. If you compare him with many guitarists from the 60's and early 70's (Alvin Lee, Eric Clapton, Jeff Back, GIlmour, Mick Taylor, Johnny Winter, Hendrix, Mike Bloomfield, etc), Page doesn't have a chance against his guys. I don't hate Page, I just think that he's really overrated, especially if you compare with these guitarists.
@ENC14 We all got a right to an opinion. But just outta curiosity: do you base your comment on views of technical proficiency? Maybe he's searching more than the ones you mentioned, but none of them could touch Page as a visionary. (Except Hendrix and Cream-era Clapton). They're all phenomenal blues-based Rock 'n' Roll guitar players, but Page really had that eastern/ folk/ transcendental/ trance-inducing thing going as well.
@mooiegarage Well, not only in technical proficiency, been a musician is much more than that: It's about creativity, being inovative, the feeling... Well, Beck is also a big influence in the guitar world man. Well, I'm not saying that Page is a bad guitarist, I just appreciate more a lot of other guitarists
@mooiegarage Also, Jeff Beck surely was a visionary too. He played in a wild way even before Hendrix entered in the musical scene. Alvin Lee sure played in that way too. Mike Bloomfield also was a visionary too, you just need to hear Highway 61 Revisited. Johnny Winter made everything Stevie Ray Vaughan did later, and Mick Taylor just had the feeling, man, he played country and blues in a beautiful away. Time Waits For No One features an amazing solo.
@ENC14 How in the fuck are you going to say that the guy who wrote The Ocean...or The Rainsong among many others is overrated? Seriously what songs are you comparing to the material Zep pumped out? What are you going to say oh this guy or that guy is better then Page but everything he wrote is fucking garbage compared to Page's work? I mean seriously its insulting reading shit like that.
@Aggrevaine Man, I'm not comparing any bands with Zeppelin, or saying that Page never wrote amazing songs. Oh, so now you're saying that everything that Hendrix, Clapton, Beck, Gilmour and many other guitarists are garbage? That, my friend, is insulting to read. I just said that these guitarists are fuckin' better than Page, that's my opinion, if you don't agree, you can discuss, but there's no need to be bitchin' like you're doing now
@ENC14 page has sold more records than any of they other guitar palyers folk are to quick to put page down he had more styles to play than any of them take david gilmour it is just one long guitar solo live just the same as the stuido page was more of a team player zeppelin were a unit that is why myu freind they are the best loved rock band of all time bar none long live zeppelin
@bedsitsongbird33 Man, do you really think that I care for how much records he sold? That doesn't mean that his better than anyone, just because he's more famous. He had more styles to play? Clapton played everything! Blues, bossa nova, jazz, reggae... Wtf? Gilmour plays the same solo live? I think you never watched any of Pink Floyd's show with Gilmour...And they're not the best loved rock band of all time, The Beatles are.
@ENC14 for the record the beatles were a pop band not rock ps they sold all them records due to there live playing no intervies no singles just word of mouth and also i think you will find clapton could never write a song like the rain song etc i could go on and on page is a great guitar player
@bedsitsongbird33 The Beatles are pop? LOL, you gotta be kidding me. I guess you never heard Birthday, Helter Skelter, Yer Blues, Dizzy Miss Lizzy, their cover of Long Tall Sally. The Beatles are the biggest influence in rock'n'roll. And like I said, I don't care for how much Zeppelin sold, sellings and fame doesn't mean quality.Oh, do you think so? Well, I think that Page would never write a song like Layla, etc, i could go on and on.I never said that Page isn't a great guitar playe
@ENC14 just because the beatles done the odd rock song doesent make them a rock band it would be like saying led zeppelin are a reggie band since they done der maker or even a blues band since ive been loving you etc and for the record right now in this day and age led zeppelin sell more records than the beatles zeppelin also have a higher sales per record many did the beatles do shityloads zeppelin did not do that many the beatles records sound very old these days where zeppelins sound fresh
@bedsitsongbird33 But The Beatles have a LOT of rock songs. Yeah, I was wrong, Beatles isn't a rock band, they're much more than that. No, Led Zeppelin didn't sell more than the Beatles... And please, could you use comma in your comments? It's a pain to read your texts... THE BEALTES SOUND OLD? Ok man, you surely have problems. If The Bealtes didn't exist, there would be no bands such Zeppelin. They are the biggest influence in rock'n'roll, they changed the way to record albuns.
@bedsitsongbird33 The Beatles have tons of rock songs, stop with this bullshit about sell, that doesn't mean quality. "and for the record" Zeppelin didn't sold more than The Beatles. Also, start using commas, it's a pain to read your texts. The Beatles sound old? I guess you gotta hear Tomorrow Never Knows, Golden Slumbers, Eleanor Rigby, She Said She Said and the entire album "Sgt. Peppers", I could go on, because The Bealtes really made a change in the way to record albums.
@bedsitsongbird33 for one if you were really a led zeppelin fan you would know it is Dyer Maker, not der maker. and for two, if you listened to music or understood the concept of it, you would understand that the beatles are a rock and roll band. They helped shape rock and roll. You obviously aren't a true rock and roll fan, or music fan for not knowing anything about the beatles.
@eddytheyeti2 no i know nothing about music.i will have to give up my job of teaching guitar then burn my guitar shortly after pissing in to the wind for 20 years thanks for your words of wisdom ps not a true zep fan only been in to them for over 20 years.ps cant you be a music fan if you know little of the beatles and for the record there rocker songs are weak compared to the rover rock and roll black dog heartbreaker am off now to burn my guitar what a waste of 22 years
@eddytheyeti2 for the record i dont hate the beatles one of my fav bands as it goes there more out there songs i do love the white album etc that kind of thing it is just when brought up in the uk you would think there had never been another band apart from the beatles it is drilled into your mind led zep pink floyd cant even get played on the radio in this country why fucked if i know
I've been a hardcore Led Zep fanatic for decades. When I first started researching old interviews, I noticed that Jimmy would frequently talk about the Yardbirds...and even as late as 1977, he'd cite them frequently and talk about them with some degree of nostalgia. I always wondered (when I was younger) "why the fuck are you talking about the Yardbirds, Jimmy?? You're the leader of FUCKING LED ZEPPELIN NOW!!" Later I realized what a groundbreaking band they were, and why Jimmy felt that way
@tornyman Page didn't leave the group, the band broke up! July the 7th marks 42nd anniversary of the bands last performance, then in August 1968 Page forms Zeppelin, the rest is history!
@tomyman Actually, Page was the last remaining member of The Yardbirds. He recruited Robert Plant, John Bonham and John Paul Jones, who did one tour known as New Yardbirds, before becoming Led Zeppelin.
I don't believe you have 4 thumbs up, then again look what site I'm on.
@Powderwombat i don't get what you say. he left.. the band slpit... yea. it doesn't matter if he was one of the last members or not.. leaving the band was a great decision i think
@tomyman Page didn't leave the band...he was the sole member remaining and REBUILT the band into the New Yardbirds, which became Led Zeppelin. I don't know how to make it clearer than that. Page never left the Yardbirds, they just transformed into Led Zeppelin.
You can see here that Jimmy Page had that badass guitar god presence even in his Yardbirds days. They other guys look like they're going through the motions, but Page looks like he's ready to conquer the world. Everything about him--down to his hair, clothes, and moves--set him apart from the rest of the band. When you watch these Yardbirds clips, you can tell that Page is going to go on to do great things.
@avocate201 The other three guys were going through the motions; within a month or two Relf, McCarty , and Dreja quit. The Yardbirds records weren't selling like before, the band had one foot in blues, the other in psychedelic pop, and was in an identity crisis. McCarty and Relf left to start a project together, and soon Dreja decided to pursue a career in photography. Page had contracted gigs and needed new Yardbirds ASAP. And what followed was a band that gave rock "new rules".
@avocate201 you seem like you're forgetting that the yardbirds were already a very accomplished band. they were internationally known and had several hits. they had already conquered the world and did great things. even if led zeppelin never existed, jimmy page would still be known as a great guitarist. just perhaps not as well known
@asianibanez Yes, I know that the Yardbirds were already an accomplished band before Page joined them. I was just pointing out the fact that the other guys looked like they were going through the motions in this clip. And they were. They admitted that they were burned out by the time Page joined the band and that Page was fresh. When you see clips like these, you can see what they were talking about.
OH MY GOD!!!!! :D Did anybody else see the drumstick fly out of McCarty's hand at 1:40. Oh Goodness, I needed that laughter. See for yourselves. You can even hear it in his playing, as he adjusts to pick up another stick. :D
@Z0S0The0utrider69 I like that jacket, too. He wore awesome outfits during this period. The ruffled shirts prefigured the New Romantics of the '80s. He looked artsy yet badass at the same time.
THANK YOU for posting this remarkable and valuable piece of music history. My only problem: I would SERIOUSLY like to bitch-slap the camera man who delayed in getting over to Page during his solo. But I guess it would have been a French cameraman, and he was probably thinking about his mistress instead of his job. So I guess I can understand that.
And they keep parroting the same talking points like a bunch of zombies...and if you challenge them with facts they disappear until you go away...and then start again. It's fucking weird. And what if I'm wrong...can you imagine how pathetic these people must be?
So, I really started to wonder if there was an organized movement to do this. Oh I know, I know, peoples' taste vary widely, and it stands to reason that some people honestly hate zep and/or page. But if you saw the patterns and duplications in the comments...I mean, I can easily imagine a bunch of Christian fundamentalists maybe taking this route to conduct their smear campaigns rather than use their real beliefs. Sound paranoid? Maybe...but seriously, I've hit HUNDREDS of clips lately.
I see the Page hating trolls are at work here too. Okay, check this out - I've posted a couple new vids on my channel and I thought I'd drum up interest by talking about them in various comment sections, mainly Led Zep clips, cuz there's some style overlap with my music. I saw these trolls on almost every clip, and I started to notice that they were saying the same thing...literally the same words a lot of time. And you check out their channels, and the channels are kind of anonymous...
If you want to see and hear the original rock guitarist that played the distortion licks on this song 1956.(covered by this group and others).Search-Paul Burlison..Go down to-Rock and Roll Trio-Part Three..second song..then go to the original cut in 1956..Johnny Burnette..Train Kept Rollin
jimmy page sucks...he,s a sloppy player..just listen..he jumps off beat alot and this solo blows dick..he,s more of posing clown if anything...clapton,stevie,jimi,david gilmore, randy rhodes, slash, eric johnson, satriani, steve vai etc.. jimmy page is nowhere near this elite group of REAL guitar players...hes more of a showman...75% posing clown showoff 25% musical...
@kurtizzyflush unfortunately NO he didnt..and he still is not a guitar GOD musicaly...oh and add angus young, zakk wylde, and buckethead to the list of GOOD guitar players who<ll play cirlces around jimmy "the sloppy-drunk-sounding" page...
@macbuckets30 Unfortunately for you, you're an idiot. Jimmy Page was not a sloppy guitar player. He didn't saturate his sound with fuzz like most guitarists which masked any mistakes made, he used a Tonebender with level and attack halfway up. He is one of the greatest guitarists of all time, right next to Jeff Beck, Peter Green, Jimi Hendrix, Paul Kossoff etc. Fag.
All of that was mentioned in "When Giants Walked the Earth". Do I care? No. Why? Because of Led Zeppelin's talent. Their skill and improvisations are all I care about, not who they ripped off for what songs.
@macbuckets30 OMG I just hate people like you...FUCK YOU motherfuckin' douchebag go grow back in your mamas ass little bitch how dare you insult jimmy page...I usually dont swear but sorry guys, this guy just SUCKS!!!!
@macbuckets30 Lmfao it should say somewhere on every video that if you have downs syndrome dont comment. Dont insult Jimmy Page. Buckethead is equivalent to a piece of hair on jimmy page's ass.
@macbuckets30 almost all those guitarist you named jimmy page inspired them plus if you hate em so much why the hell are you watching the god damn video,
@macbuckets30 so page is 25% musical??and what to say about clapton,he was only playing the blues.it has been said over 100 times here in youtube but page is a better musician than clapton, that's for sure.i mean, compare sunshine of your love to dazed and confused.i don't care what the fuck you are listening to from clapton, but coming to a yardbirds video to bash page is just trolling.so listen to what you want and don't troll.everybody listen to what he likes, but there's always truth in music
@macbuckets30 and stevie is not a better musician than page,he is a better GUITARIST than page.on this one i will agree that stevie is a better guitarist, but he only played to 12 bar blues...gilmour is equal to page, i think...;) in musical creation,i mean.jimi hendrix...is jimi hendrix,he is up there with page, gilmour,b.b king etc.stariani and vai?are you joking now man?better musicians than page?they just shred, even the worst song page ever made is better than all of their songs xD

ENC14 6 months ago
@mooiegarage Also, Jeff Beck surely was a visionary too. He played in a wild way even before Hendrix entered in the musical scene. Alvin Lee sure played in that way too. Mike Bloomfield also was a visionary too, you just need to hear Highway 61 Revisited. Johnny Winter made everything Stevie Ray Vaughan did later, and Mick Taylor just had the feeling, man, he played country and blues in a beautiful away. Time Waits For No One features an amazing solo.
ENC14 6 months ago
@ENC14 How in the fuck are you going to say that the guy who wrote The Ocean...or The Rainsong among many others is overrated? Seriously what songs are you comparing to the material Zep pumped out? What are you going to say oh this guy or that guy is better then Page but everything he wrote is fucking garbage compared to Page's work? I mean seriously its insulting reading shit like that.
Aggrevaine 6 months ago
@Aggrevaine Man, I'm not comparing any bands with Zeppelin, or saying that Page never wrote amazing songs. Oh, so now you're saying that everything that Hendrix, Clapton, Beck, Gilmour and many other guitarists are garbage? That, my friend, is insulting to read. I just said that these guitarists are fuckin' better than Page, that's my opinion, if you don't agree, you can discuss, but there's no need to be bitchin' like you're doing now
ENC14 6 months ago
@ENC14 page has sold more records than any of they other guitar palyers folk are to quick to put page down he had more styles to play than any of them take david gilmour it is just one long guitar solo live just the same as the stuido page was more of a team player zeppelin were a unit that is why myu freind they are the best loved rock band of all time bar none long live zeppelin
bedsitsongbird33 6 months ago
@bedsitsongbird33 Man, do you really think that I care for how much records he sold? That doesn't mean that his better than anyone, just because he's more famous. He had more styles to play? Clapton played everything! Blues, bossa nova, jazz, reggae... Wtf? Gilmour plays the same solo live? I think you never watched any of Pink Floyd's show with Gilmour...And they're not the best loved rock band of all time, The Beatles are.
ENC14 6 months ago
@ENC14 for the record the beatles were a pop band not rock ps they sold all them records due to there live playing no intervies no singles just word of mouth and also i think you will find clapton could never write a song like the rain song etc i could go on and on page is a great guitar player
bedsitsongbird33 6 months ago
@bedsitsongbird33 The Beatles are pop? LOL, you gotta be kidding me. I guess you never heard Birthday, Helter Skelter, Yer Blues, Dizzy Miss Lizzy, their cover of Long Tall Sally. The Beatles are the biggest influence in rock'n'roll. And like I said, I don't care for how much Zeppelin sold, sellings and fame doesn't mean quality.Oh, do you think so? Well, I think that Page would never write a song like Layla, etc, i could go on and on.I never said that Page isn't a great guitar playe
ENC14 5 months ago
@ENC14 just because the beatles done the odd rock song doesent make them a rock band it would be like saying led zeppelin are a reggie band since they done der maker or even a blues band since ive been loving you etc and for the record right now in this day and age led zeppelin sell more records than the beatles zeppelin also have a higher sales per record many did the beatles do shityloads zeppelin did not do that many the beatles records sound very old these days where zeppelins sound fresh
bedsitsongbird33 5 months ago
@bedsitsongbird33 But The Beatles have a LOT of rock songs. Yeah, I was wrong, Beatles isn't a rock band, they're much more than that. No, Led Zeppelin didn't sell more than the Beatles... And please, could you use comma in your comments? It's a pain to read your texts... THE BEALTES SOUND OLD? Ok man, you surely have problems. If The Bealtes didn't exist, there would be no bands such Zeppelin. They are the biggest influence in rock'n'roll, they changed the way to record albuns.
ENC14 5 months ago
@bedsitsongbird33 The Beatles have tons of rock songs, stop with this bullshit about sell, that doesn't mean quality. "and for the record" Zeppelin didn't sold more than The Beatles. Also, start using commas, it's a pain to read your texts. The Beatles sound old? I guess you gotta hear Tomorrow Never Knows, Golden Slumbers, Eleanor Rigby, She Said She Said and the entire album "Sgt. Peppers", I could go on, because The Bealtes really made a change in the way to record albums.
ENC14 5 months ago
@bedsitsongbird33 for one if you were really a led zeppelin fan you would know it is Dyer Maker, not der maker. and for two, if you listened to music or understood the concept of it, you would understand that the beatles are a rock and roll band. They helped shape rock and roll. You obviously aren't a true rock and roll fan, or music fan for not knowing anything about the beatles.
eddytheyeti2 5 months ago
@eddytheyeti2 sorry, forgot where the commas go, D'yer mak'er. always forget them.
eddytheyeti2 5 months ago
@eddytheyeti2 no i know nothing about music.i will have to give up my job of teaching guitar then burn my guitar shortly after pissing in to the wind for 20 years thanks for your words of wisdom ps not a true zep fan only been in to them for over 20 years.ps cant you be a music fan if you know little of the beatles and for the record there rocker songs are weak compared to the rover rock and roll black dog heartbreaker am off now to burn my guitar what a waste of 22 years
bedsitsongbird33 5 months ago
@bedsitsongbird33 Why do you hate the beatles so much? If you didn't hate the beatles i bet you wouldn't be such a dick.
eddytheyeti2 5 months ago
@eddytheyeti2 for the record i dont hate the beatles one of my fav bands as it goes there more out there songs i do love the white album etc that kind of thing it is just when brought up in the uk you would think there had never been another band apart from the beatles it is drilled into your mind led zep pink floyd cant even get played on the radio in this country why fucked if i know
bedsitsongbird33 5 months ago
I've been a hardcore Led Zep fanatic for decades. When I first started researching old interviews, I noticed that Jimmy would frequently talk about the Yardbirds...and even as late as 1977, he'd cite them frequently and talk about them with some degree of nostalgia. I always wondered (when I was younger) "why the fuck are you talking about the Yardbirds, Jimmy?? You're the leader of FUCKING LED ZEPPELIN NOW!!" Later I realized what a groundbreaking band they were, and why Jimmy felt that way

im glad page left that band
tomyman 7 months ago 3
@tomyman Actually, Page was the last remaining member of The Yardbirds. He recruited Robert Plant, John Bonham and John Paul Jones, who did one tour known as New Yardbirds, before becoming Led Zeppelin.
I don't believe you have 4 thumbs up, then again look what site I'm on.

@Powderwombat i don't get what you say. he left.. the band slpit... yea. it doesn't matter if he was one of the last members or not.. leaving the band was a great decision i think
tomyman 6 months ago
@tomyman Page didn't leave the band...he was the sole member remaining and REBUILT the band into the New Yardbirds, which became Led Zeppelin. I don't know how to make it clearer than that. Page never left the Yardbirds, they just transformed into Led Zeppelin.

You can see here that Jimmy Page had that badass guitar god presence even in his Yardbirds days. They other guys look like they're going through the motions, but Page looks like he's ready to conquer the world. Everything about him--down to his hair, clothes, and moves--set him apart from the rest of the band. When you watch these Yardbirds clips, you can tell that Page is going to go on to do great things.
avocate201 7 months ago
@avocate201 The other three guys were going through the motions; within a month or two Relf, McCarty , and Dreja quit. The Yardbirds records weren't selling like before, the band had one foot in blues, the other in psychedelic pop, and was in an identity crisis. McCarty and Relf left to start a project together, and soon Dreja decided to pursue a career in photography. Page had contracted gigs and needed new Yardbirds ASAP. And what followed was a band that gave rock "new rules".
HughJeeNJ 7 months ago
@avocate201 you seem like you're forgetting that the yardbirds were already a very accomplished band. they were internationally known and had several hits. they had already conquered the world and did great things. even if led zeppelin never existed, jimmy page would still be known as a great guitarist. just perhaps not as well known
asianibanez 7 months ago
@asianibanez Yes, I know that the Yardbirds were already an accomplished band before Page joined them. I was just pointing out the fact that the other guys looked like they were going through the motions in this clip. And they were. They admitted that they were burned out by the time Page joined the band and that Page was fresh. When you see clips like these, you can see what they were talking about.

EdGracz 9 months ago 23
And they keep parroting the same talking points like a bunch of zombies...and if you challenge them with facts they disappear until you go away...and then start again. It's fucking weird. And what if I'm wrong...can you imagine how pathetic these people must be?
mielazul 9 months ago
So, I really started to wonder if there was an organized movement to do this. Oh I know, I know, peoples' taste vary widely, and it stands to reason that some people honestly hate zep and/or page. But if you saw the patterns and duplications in the comments...I mean, I can easily imagine a bunch of Christian fundamentalists maybe taking this route to conduct their smear campaigns rather than use their real beliefs. Sound paranoid? Maybe...but seriously, I've hit HUNDREDS of clips lately.
mielazul 9 months ago
I see the Page hating trolls are at work here too. Okay, check this out - I've posted a couple new vids on my channel and I thought I'd drum up interest by talking about them in various comment sections, mainly Led Zep clips, cuz there's some style overlap with my music. I saw these trolls on almost every clip, and I started to notice that they were saying the same thing...literally the same words a lot of time. And you check out their channels, and the channels are kind of anonymous...

macbuckets30 9 months ago
@macbuckets30 Unfortunately for you, you're an idiot. Jimmy Page was not a sloppy guitar player. He didn't saturate his sound with fuzz like most guitarists which masked any mistakes made, he used a Tonebender with level and attack halfway up. He is one of the greatest guitarists of all time, right next to Jeff Beck, Peter Green, Jimi Hendrix, Paul Kossoff etc. Fag.
