I'd like to let you all know, whether this particular video is real or not does not matter. It is based on fact. The X-35 is a VTOL (Vertical Take-Off and Landing) Multi-Role Stealth Fighter. Based on the research I have done on this particular aircraft, IF this video is fake, the creator went through alot of study to get it right. This is exactly how this monster take's off and lands. Even the actuators, and thrust vectoring ailerons are consistent with the crafts movement.

I like the F-22 better. mostly because of thrust vectoring tech that makes it more maneuverable than the F-35. I know it's a little older, but thrust vectoring just gets me psyched.

@jasonroxorz also, 50 yard takeoffs are approximately equivalent to vertical IMO... hahaha jk. but really there comes a point where I'd rather have very short runway distance and higher maneuverability in the air than burning all my fuel on VTOL and having to refuel before every mission. I'm talking out my ass here but I know that was the case for the harrier. I assume the fundamentals of VTOL haven't changed THAT drastically. If the F-35 used TV in flight I would be all over it.

@Tankbuster1138 The two are very similar. They are both 5th Generation stealth aircraft designed by Lockheed Martin (F-22 has some Boeing in it too). Even the F-35's engines are based on the F-22's P&W F119 engines.

the harrier doesn't fail, and the f-35 is a useful plane... it can go over mach 1, has stealth capabilities, and can do vertical takeoffs/landings. the main reason they were purchased by the US military is so every branch of the military has the same aircraft. obviously, the navy's version is built a little bit differently to allow landings on aircraft carriers.

@ForeverForTomorrow There are three variants. Before the F-35 there would be two variants of each plane that was designed for a certain branch. Take the F-18. It started out as A and B. A was a single seat plane and B was a two seat plane. In the U.S. the Hornet was a navy plane and the F-15 and F-16 were Air Force. The F-35s variants are the branches that it serves. A is for Air Force, B is for Navy and C is for Marines. C is what does the vertical landing. All variants fly at least mach 1.6.

@SkillZone66 the F 35 Joint-Strike fighter is not fake. the video might be animated, however, the F 35 is manufactured by Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, who beat Boeing in a design "winner takes all the prize" competition. The boeing model was similar, but when the team was displaying the plane by demonstration, the vertical takeoff did not go as planned, which most likely caused Lookheed's version to win the contest.

@kazuki561 Correction, the F-35B is an STOVL. The X-35 is a pre F-35 prototype, and they did build a VTOL version. However, from what I've researched, they have not, and do not plan on making it a production model offering. Saddens me to write that last sentence...

@KartKing4ever The Harrier can only hover for about 20 seconds before over heating. Can't fly super sonic. It's also too hard to control. The F-35 is easy to control. Has dogfight capabilities superior to the Harrier. A radar signature smaller than that of the F-117 Night Hawk Stealth Fighter. Has VERY good situational awareness due to the computers installed. A VERY good recon plane if needed, while having a better precision bombing capabilities. The F-35 series makes the Harrier obsolete.
