listening to this band really makes me understand Curve a bit bettter. I think Curve really liked these guys (having only listened to Doppelgänger). opinions?
I've been trying to find this freakin' song for almost 23 years now.The first time I heard this was on a popular radio station(KROQfm)during the summer of 1988 and it was also the last time(never knew who were the band or song title). All I remember was the lyric "love" and the "scratch" record sound.I've been trying to find this song on YT once or twice a month for last 2 years(Now,when this song is over I'm going to listen to it again till my ears bleed, thank you for the upload).
@TheXtro101 I think the album this was on "Box Frenzy" got reissued once before already. I have one of the original copies it came out in the USA on some RCA affiliate, maybe beggars banquet. it's a good listen. youd like thrill kill cult too if you like pwei.
@beartunes Well, what a change "Industrial" music has come from their early dance club sound(late 1980s-'90s fr "Nitzer Ebb,Front 242,NiN,Wumpscut,Leaether Strip").In the last 8-10 years, the music has evolved sounding like "Trance Music" fr 1 of those Mega Raves & the singing lyrics sounds too robotic(some call it "TBM",Techno Body Music). In the last 6 years the Industrial-Gothic club scene here has been mostly invaded by Generation "Y" who are not ol skool or look like Hip Hop or like "JB".
Their best! I'll always getting my first dose of them. I was at the 9:30 Club in Washington D.C. in 1988 to see Clan Of Xymox. And this video came on before the band came on. I bought the tape the next day! Awesome song.
This may have been the best PWEI ever did; nice balance between the live elements, the samples, and the scratching. I loved follow up album "This is the Day..."; ridiculously catchy record. But this track has a rawer feel that has helped it to age better.
Heard this tune in New York summer of 89, just once, stuck in my mind, singing there every now and then, and only today, 20 yrs later, after having installed broadband, I found it! Great tune. Seems ready for some modern sound arrangement though. Great clip too, although a bit repetitive. God how some tunes get stuck in the head!
Phenomenal song!! I had the album many years ago. This song still sounds fantastic 20 years later:) Wonder if any of todays rubbish will still be stirring people 20 years from now..somehow I doubt it;)
...ive still got the long sleeved tour sweatshirt with that quote on it around the Pepsi inspired PWEI logo.... the fooking good old days of grebo, along with Neds, Crazyhead, Gaye Bikers etc...
Me too (short-sleeved one though) and with Clint's autograph on it. Had to wear it to the Brum reunion gig and loved seeing everyone else wearing their old tour t-shirts too - good night had by all. Still love this song too.
Here you say 'pure class' and yet in another posting for PWEI you declare in your oh-so-worldly way 'the Poppies r crap'. What are you on and where can I get some?
An example of this includes the Johnny Morris sample (Taken from UK kids' TV show `Animal Magic`) at the beginning of the `Box Frenzy` album - "They`re very much like scruffy pigs to look at.... they`re very, very ugly indeed" - and of course the inlay sleeve to the same album which reads `The Poppies are Crap` (Fans will, of course, note the irony in this statement!!! Others may not..)
i love this song. in the beginning it starts with "when i fall in love,it will be forever" then the song starts and ends with " gone gone gone.fantastic
Great song - too bad these guys never got the deserved recognition.

@TheXtro101 Pop Will Eat Itself were a great group. This song is from their early Industrial beginnings.
I think this is the only song of theirs that got rotation on mainstream radio stations in the USA. They toured with Nine Inch Nails a few times.

@pashedmotatos right? they got no love here...but there are a few of us "poppies" still out here love "this.....etc" brilliant mf'n stuff!

@DrunkenPoetic
And the irony is that PWEI wouldn't have got beyond the ritual humiliation that is the X-Factor opening shows. (But then, what good bands would have?)

This is amazing; you hear rap scratching samples, rock samples, and probably pop and techno samples.
This is the first song that I heard by these guys that wasn't from their last album.
To those who have heard Pop WIll Eat Itself for quite some time, do you know what role Cling Mansell had in the band?
Cheers
