and a christian said "thank god everyone is safe." im not trying to offend but im having trouble with that. if everyone died of that earthquake, would u still thank god? why not curse your god for creating earthquakes that already killed millions of humans in the first place? religious people are always devoid of logic.
The core is kept hot by two things, radioactive decay and primordial heat left over from the original formation of the earth. The earth is cooling and shrinking. Eventually as the core cools plate tectonics will cease.
@SnapTwister The core is molten from the immense pressures at that depth and radioactive decay. The size of a planets core depends how much chemical fractioning took place before a planet solidified. All terrestrial planets have metallic cores. Mercury and Mars are smaller planets and have smaller cores.
in india ,tamilnadu ,human souls are taken under earth ,under rocks ,even to several thousnds kilometers under rocks, taking old revenges ,vengenes ,conspirancies ,polatics and given different shapes .in sevrages and made like aliens .taking under earth and beating and burning .please save to every one, every molecules and request to bring all the souls ,creatures from under earth to on earth .and requests to request not to spoil souls and humans.please save from pains sufferings .please save
taking revenges, taking under earth alive , several thousnds kilometers under earth , even to center of the earth, where no body can be able to find out , under rocks .even converting souls (atamas) to pieces the size of molecules even to newtron, proton size so that no one can search .buring alive .beating , cutting parts of boby of (souls) atama , sending to hell the place where no body sees , making aliens and like aliens from human .joining different souls atamas giveing unnatural shapes .
@Greyhound1405 Elastic AND plastic, actually. Elastic being a reversible deformation, like when you bend a ruler and it flips back into its original shape. Plastic being irreversible - like play-doh. Rocks can be both, and they can deform extremely intensely without being molten - provided you have some elevated temperatures and loads of time.
Rocks, within human perception, are solids. But if you take deep time into account, any material is really more like a fluid.
@KaroKoenich Wow, thank you. What a shame I had to get to 64 before finding all this wonderful stuff out. Everything changes then, just that some things (elements) are slower than others. Wow again. Much more interesting than dictatorial religions or politics...
@Greyhound1405 It is never too late to learn new things. I am, by the way, extremely happy to see the Deccan Traps mentioned in this documentary. The K-T Asteroid alone grilling the dinosaurs isn't all that popular in the geoscience community for more than a decade - since the discovery of the age and magnitude of the Deccan eruptions. Yet most documentaries I see still feature the big space rock as the sole reason for extinction. Stupid sensationalism there - BBC quality here.
just had an earthquake here...

Why is the core molten? Does any other planet in the solar system have a molten core?

If creationists could stop freaking out bout evolution for a second, they'll realise a bigger boogieman in their closet. Plate tectonics.

Fascinating, This is the first video that explains how tectonic plates can move. Something can be solid and elastic?
